One could usually find a certain Captain Dross haunting the array of pubs and taverns that littered Lilycove's dockside streets. Her laughter would lose itself in the cacophony of rowdy cheer, broken glasses and the occasional brawl. She'd be spilled onto the streets with a stumble to her step and a fierce fire alight in silver eyes, catching the moonlight when there was some to be had.

Tonight, however, the sky is inky dark and a chill bites at her exposed arms. And the glow in her eyes runs cold, sharp, focused. If there is any cheer to be had, she finds it in the dregs that slosh within the tequila bottle in her hands. And in the savage satisfaction that comes from bloodied, gauze-wrapped knuckles.

She leaves the dirty alley behind, as well as the underground fighting pit she'd been fighting in. By the time she reaches her favorite dockside pub, warmth has begun to trickle back into the tips of her fingers.

Questions aren't asked. Despite being a bunch of gossipy old mothers, sailors know to keep their noses to themselves. Mostly. At least until next morning.

Skyler greets them by name with her usual cheer, and props her booted feet on a nearby table, insolence personified. When the barkeep gives her an admonishing look, she grins back impishly and raises her glass at him.

Being a regular did come with its fair share of advantages.

How sailors could stomach the stench of the sea boggled the mind. Like a teen stoner overzealously spraying themselves down in AXE, Lilycove was perfumed in the pungent odor. The salty scent singed nose hairs as it drifted up from the edge of the dock. Killian frowned. The sooner he got his business here over and done with, the better. [break][break]

In desperate need of oiling, the door creaked as he pulled it open and stepped inside. The hustle and bustle of the sailors didn't stop as he entered, but a few shot a curious glance in his direction. All of them likely wondering the same thing. [break][break]

Why a man in a leather jacket and denim jeans saw fit to wander into their neck of the woods. [break][break]

Let em wonder. [break][break]

Nose scrunched because asking for the foul smell not to follow him once the door shut was too much. Killian scanned the pub. Baby blues darted from scruffy face to scruffy face. None of them were who he was here to see.[break][break]

"Shit." had he gotten here too soon? Leather sleeve pulled back, Killian checked his watch, and of course - he'd gotten here twenty minutes early. [break][break]

"Fucking perfect." a hefty breath escaped his lungs. Nothing else to do but sit and have a drink while he waited. He cast another glance around the place. Diamonds landed up the familiar face of one skyler dross. [break][break]

She'd been at Sootopolis. Neither had met, but Killian saw her dart into the Cave of Origin. Interesting. [break][break]

"Anything decent to drink here?" he asked, approaching with a hand in his pocket. "Gotta wait for a friend, and I could use something strong after the day I've had."

"Got lost on your way to the club?" Teeth flash out from behind a lopsided grin, amused. A sharp gaze trails up denim jeans and a (admittedly fashionable) leather jacket, stopping only when it lands on baby blues, bold and unwavering. Taking stock of the man and silently keeping any judgement behind surface silver.

His arrival hadn't gone unnoticed, not by her and not by the usual patrons. Not many people wandered to the seaside pubs except for the usual crowd and the occasional lost tourist.

"Depends on what you mean by decent." She hooks her foot around the leg of a nearby chair and pushes it in the guy's direction, lazily motioning with an arm for him to join her. "Beer tastes like piss, but they've got some surprisingly good tequila, if that's your thing."

It certainly is hers if the mostly full bottle on the table in any indication. This was one of her favorite establishments for a reason.

"Tough day, huh?" She tilts her head, taking a gulp of fine tequila with barely a flinch, sighing with pleasure at the fire that descends her throat. A tongue peeks out to catch a few stray droplets before she continues. "Want some?"

"No, clubs are a little too crowded for my tastes." he chuckled, slipping the hand from his pocket. It ran through dark locks while Skyler took the time to size him up. Their eyes met, and Killian flashed her a smile. He stared for a second. Trying to judge what she thought of him, whatever opinion Skyler formed is kept behind lock and key. [break][break]

"Impressive." and put her one above the average person he ran into. [break][break]

Wood scrapping on wood drew his attention to the chair. It's a glance out the corner of his eye. "Tequila?" he arched a brow. Was she trying to get him fucked up? "I'm more of a whiskey man." he said, taking a seat. "But I'll drink anything." Killian added.[break][break]

Downing tequila without so much as a flinch confirmed what he'd already thought. skyler dross was cut from a different cloth than most. "Something like that." Killian reached for the bottle and followed her example. He's less graceful in his swig, coughing as the heat coasted down his throat. Face scrunched, he wiped his mouth dry with the back of his hand and sighed. [break][break]

"Fuck that stings." he sat the bottle down and looked at her, "You can drink that shit straight?"

She would, in fact, try to get Killian fucked up if the opportunity presented itself. Not out of any ill will, mind you, but simply because she could.

His approach is taken as an invitation, and Skyler has never been one for temperance - especially not on nights like this, when memories creep uneasily close to the surface and sharpen the edges of her smile into something hungry.

Distractedly, a calloused fingertip traces gauze-wrapped knuckles.

"Well, you've come to the right place if you want to get sloshed." As several patrons were all-too keen to demonstrate, rowdy voices rising up above the general din. "Believe me, that," and she points to the bottle that Killian takes to his lips, "does the trick well enough if you've the stomach for it."

His crunched face prompts a rough bark of laughter from the captain, who quickly takes the bottle for herself again. "Need something to water it down?"

Amusement isn't nearly enough to hide the taunt weaved into her voice, reflected in the way she tilts her head just so, silver catching the ambient lighting.

"Shame."

Another swig. She doesn't bother masking her pleasure as the burn consumes her tongue and slips down her throat.

Getting plastered hadn't been on the agenda tonight, but plans change. Killian side-eyed the rugged tavern. The nautical vibe wasn't working for him, but it's hard not to feel nostalgic. Memories of the seedy back-alley bars he frequented with Alexandra Briarwood flickering to life. [break][break]

"And look like a bitch? Nah, I'll be fine." [break][break]

Chair legs creaked and inched from the ground as Killian leaned in his seat. Taking a deep breath, Killian noted the bloodstained gauze on her knuckles. His head tilted to the side, curious. [break][break]

"What's the story there?"

Skyler blinks in surprise, glancing at the stretch of bloodied gauze wrapped around her knuckles as if having forgotten all about it.

After a while the pain becomes background noise - easily drowned in her choice of alcohol.

"Huh." Unlike Killian, Skyler wasn't in the habit of withholding information, not unless she could stand to gain something from it.

So when she leans purposefully forward, silver reflecting the very first stirrings of trouble as she regards this bold stranger, really should've been Killian's cue to get out - or to hold on to his liver.

This was about to be a wild ride.

"Tell you what, Blue Eyes." Her gaze holds on to his, demanding and forceful. A calloused finger slowly slides down the mostly full bottle that lies between them, stopping near the bottom. Teeth flash out, revealing something far too wild to be a smile.

"Story's right here if you can last till then."

Was she flirting with him or being coy? It felt more like the latter given her shark-toothed smile, but Killian couldn't tell for sure. Either option was dangerous that much he knew. [break][break]

He stared at the bottle, gears visibly turning behind his eyes. Again, he hadn't come here to get drunk. Merely to meet someone and then be on his way. But fuck if he wasn't intrigued. Dangling knowledge in front of him like forbidden fruit. [break][break]

How could he resist the siren's song? [break][break]

Killian slipped his phone from his pocket and shot a certain redhead a text underneath the table. He'd be coming home late tonight. Very late. [break][break]

"Pour away, Goldilocks."

Goldilocks.

The unpexpected nickname surprises a short bark of laughter out of her, unashamed in its boldness. It dispells some of her previous intensity to make way for genuine, and (mostly, but not really) good-natured amusement.

It doesn't take long for Skyler to decide that she likes this guy, whoever he is.

Killian's barely finished speaking before Skyler calls the barkeep and two glasses are poured, one sliding over in his direction. A clear liquid sloshes within, nearly breaking past the glass's edge.

The bottle is still ominously full even after the fact.

"So. What kind of trouble spit you into this fine establishment, Blue Eyes? Or," Alcohol burns down her throat, subtle as a Mudsdale's kick. "Have you come here to look for it?"

Because that's the one thing Skyler could definitely provide.
