The voice that echoed faintly through the caves had scared her at first. Trilling and soft, it sounded more akin to the mournful hymns of a ghost than any human speech. A shiver had crawled up Luka's spine as she debated on turning back, until the spooky wailing translated itself into words for her frightened ears.[break][break]

Ew.[break][break]

Upon tiptoeing further into the cave she finds that the source of the noise isn't some ghostly apparition, but just some guy. The relief she feels is palpable, sloughing off her shoulders with a soft sigh. But whatever he's talking about is still strange enough that Luka turns to leave him to it, until her boot squelches in a pool of muck and she reveals herself with an audible squeak of disgust.[break][break]

"Oh! Hiiiii, um..." Soft laugher peals from cherry-red lips. "S-so sorry! I didn't realize there was anyone else here."[break][break]

She's at least polite enough to pretend she hadn't heard him.

they weren't his prayers, that was. he didn't care if anyone had overheard him. which so happened, was the case.

"hello! nonsense, another human beings presence in this weird cave is a sight for sore eyes."

using a specially designed tool, he scraped the stool into a plastic bag, and sealed it.

"ah, did you know you have a particularly territorial dracovish behind you? is it yours?"
[break][break]
but she wasn't the only one. a claydol emerges, cosmic power flying over his shoulder to shatter against the rockface behind. his eyes trail the blast, widening to saucers in excitement.

"atlach! we absolutley must have this one for our research."
[break][break]
so, it does what good spiders do: pounces. their battle isn't a hard-fought one, but annoying. as it ends, he rounds his attention back onto the stranger. he really wanted to meet her pokemon.

"Oh! Ah, no...I wasn't aware..."[break][break]

A shudder ripples through her voice. The Carbink at her side chimes out a warning, though is rather late on the draw. Luka doesn't want to turn around, but she can feel a hot breath against the back of her neck and her nose fills with an unpleasantly fishy odor.[break][break]

She runs, of course. Skirts swirl around her legs as she fumbles around in her bag, trying not to panic too badly as the Dracovish gives chase. After a few moments she locates a Love Ball and tosses it open, releasing the Pokémon inside with a flurry of heart-shaped seals.[break][break] Her Musharna doesn't strike much of an intimidating figure, but a well-timed Hypnosis is still enough to send the Dracovish into a deep slumber. It crashes against the cave floor with a resonating thud. But they can't very well leave it there, so Plum teleports it away, sending it somewhere deep inside the cave.[break][break]

Luka's breathing is still slightly labored as she glances back at the stranger, who's just finished his own battle. She gives a little thumbs-up and a half smile between pants.[break][break]

"T-thank you, ah...for the warning..."

It's a dangerous world, and truthfully Luka's only accomplishment is that she hasn't died yet. She clings to the compliment anyways, macabre as it is, and wears it like a badge of honor.[break][break]

But even so, her steps are hesitant and light as she approaches the stranger and his capture— prey? The thought is an unkind one and she feels bad immediately, but can't help but be slightly unnerved by how the Bruxish was presented, all tangled up in web.[break][break]

"Really? I didn't know that...that's really cool!" Carefully she hovers beside the pair and, even though it might be rude, takes the initiative in brushing some of the webbing away. A kaleidoscope of colors lays underneath stringy white, but the Bruxish doesn't seem all that happy when her fingers brush against a few scales. Pointed teeth flash dangerously under comically puffed lips.[break][break]

"She seems, um. A little agitated though, don't you think?" She flushes a bit at her presumptuousness. "Ah, n-not that I would know! You definitely seem like more of the expert."

"i'd imagine so." he chuckles, saying nothing of her disregard for atlach's precise webbing. he too does the same, checking for any extensive, external damage. "it won't last long once she sees the exhibit i have prepared." satisfied with his examination, it falls away into light, beneath the touch of a pokeball.

personal space is nothing to him, though he's not particularly invasive. with a wide smile, his eyes train themselves on the pokemon at her side. they widen, and his smile brightens even further, somehow. "a carbink? that is a beautiful pokemon. how ol-" a roar echoes off the cave walls, stripping him of his question. behind him, a leviathan rises.

"hm. let's put that question on hold a moment. atlach?" the spider was at a disadvantage, but that wouldn't dissuade her. she drowns the great sea beast in a tide of INFESTATION, PIN MISSILE's and PSYCHIC bursts. it's not quick, by any measure, but it's decisive. valentine's eagerness reaches new heights.

Their conversation is interrupted by an earth-shattering roar, so loud it makes Luka's teeth ache. Her eyes widen as the great beast emerges from the cave's ripping waters, a sight that might reduce even the most seasoned of adventurers to quivering and jellied legs.[break][break]

But her companion appears relatively nonplussed. Luka isn't sure whether he's brave or insane— but the fact that he's able to keep a level head is somehow reassuring. It keeps her from turning into a little puddle of terrified mush on the cave floor, at any rate. Her heart still flutters wildly behind her ribs, but by the time the battle ends it's settled into a barely elevated thrumming.[break][break]

"You, um. Y-you must be pretty used to this kind of thing, huh?" Luka marvels once the dust clears. "That's very impressive, Monsieur!"

valentine blinks, staring into a slightly confused expression. then, as quickly as it appears, it's gone, replaced by a wide smile. "oh, that? partially so," he says, moving to pick-up the now still capsule, "you'd be surprised how often wild pokemon wish to break their teeth on little ol' me."

his eyes widen again, a thought occurring to him. "but, nevermind that! we were interrupt-" he doesn't get to finish his statement, a reverberating sound bouncing through and along the walls of the cave. it's more visceral than the sea leviathan's screams, and this time, valentine's own teeth chatter with the vibrational impact. his brow furrows, and looks to the nearby spider.

"atlach, please handle whatever is making that insufferable noise." skittering up along the chambers walls, and disappearing into the darkness above, the sounds of a scuffle ensue. it continues for nearly half-a-minute before a large, amber scaled dragon, collapses into the watery depth below. another half a minute after that, his spider rejoins him.

"do me a favor and tap the creature with this ball, please. you're lovely as always." having his delivery method secured, he looks back to luka, wide grinned and eager.
