cait rubbed her forehead, having only just snapped out of the dazed state that her hypno had put her under. the white-maned pokemon's features were crinkled in amusement as her mistress blinked dumbly, her pendulum having slowed to halt. 

"that was - "

the gym leader blinked rapidly and then shook her head in an attempt at clearing it.

"that's powerful stuff," she remarked. "you didn't make me do anything weird while i was under, did you?"

it was hypno's turn to shake her head now, though there was a mischievous glimmer in her gaze. cait's eyes narrowed in suspicion, but she decided against inquiring any further. 

"right." 

cait had been experimenting with her psychic-type's abilities for a meager several days now, the pokemon confirming multiple times over that she could wield her them in a competent fashion within this short time frame. additionally, since hypno was a mature female, it was very likely she had quite a few years to develop her power prior to their initial encounter. 

"let's go ahead and put that power to use, girl."

"that one over there, girl."

they had crossed paths with a male unfezant, the 'masked' creature only having just taken notice to their presence. he faced them with his chest puffed out and his wings raised, the attempt to make himself appear far larger than he actually was warranting no response from the pair. 

"use psychic." 

the psychic's eyes became aglow with power, her pendulum stiffly positioned as she launched several potent rings of energy at the flying-type. hypno's attack was enough to give the creature a good scare, the bird fleeing immediately after he had been spent sprawling. cait allowed his escape and nodded her approval, satisfied by the display thus far.

"onward to the next one," she said.

cinccino made for an easy enough target, with hypno having successfully drawn it into a deep slumber with a few swings of her pendulum. 

"it's out like a light."

cait knelt before the little beast and experimentally passed her hand over its fine coat. it was absurdly soft and she supposed this served as the primary reason for why the black market often harvested these creatures for their pelts. 

'it's sad to think about.' 

she pulled her hand away and requested for her pokemon to break their spell. the pokemon scampered away immediately after, groggy but unharmed. 

"let's keep moving," cait said.

the last pokemon they'd encounter that afternoon came in the form of a zangoose. and it proved far more difficult to subdue than the others, the creature somehow managing to avoid being pulled into a deep slumber by the psychic-type. 

"try putting it down anyway you can, hypno."

what followed proved to be interesting, cait quickly discovering that her companion preferred to remain mostly immobile when it came to battle. and while it made her a relatively easy target, she managed to erect an adequate enough defense to compensate for it. 

'disable and barrier,' she thought, identifying the moves with some difficulty. 

once the hypno proved herself to be a formidable opponent, the zangoose would beat a hasty retreat; cait half-tempted to have her companion drag it back so that she could further assess their skills.

"let it go," cait said, shaking her head. "you did great today, girl. let's get you back home so we can get some food into you."

the pokemon took an immediate liking to the prospect of a  meal and followed her mistress as they begin to make their way back home.
