A gentle smile tugs at her lips as she waits for her third route partner, the Comfey that had previously rested atop of her head now perched on her shoulder. Its string of white and yellow blooms hangs off her neck, as if living true to the pokémon’s nickname: a lei.

When someone approaches the table, the Comfey takes off, taking its flowers with it as it circles overhead as if in greeting. Lia chuckles lightly at this.

”Sorry, Lei can get really excited sometimes. I’m Amelia, nice to meet you.”

Meeting so many strangers in one day was beginning to get overwhelming but social awkwardness wasn’t about to get the best of him, Rowan had endured much worse at high-society functions back home.

“Oh, and this is Peach.” The Luvdisc peaked out from behind Rowan, obviously shy when it came to meeting new people and Pokémon. “So, what do you do for a living, Amelia? Are you from Hoenn?”

There’s always something strange about seeing fish pokémon out of the water, but a Luvdisc is a cute sight nevertheless. ”Rendezvous Pokémon, huh? Really fitting of something like this.” She chuckles, amused.

Her fondness for things like those always gets the best of her. Etymology, definitions, encyclopaedic knowledge.

”I am, actually. Petalburg born and raised.” From a very traditionalist family, no less, but are those things she wants to dive into with a complete stranger?

“I’m an Oceanographer, myself. I work for Greater Mauville Holdings, for the time being.” Devon Corporation would have been a good alternative, should he ever decide to leave Team Rocket for one reason or another, as suggested by FERNANDO SILPH .

“I considered being a Ranger at one point, though. When I first came to Hoenn I met a girl named Giselle who was part of the Ranger Corps. She was trying to recruit me but she up and disappeared one day. Did you happen to know her?” Rowan certainly hoped she wasn’t dead, she was kind and magnanimous, traits that were all too rare these days.

“Oh, sorry. I’m from Wyndon in Galar, though I'm sure you gathered from the accent.” He chuckled.

”Oh! Oceanography sounds really interesting.” Her reaction is honest, even if Lia herself admittedly isn’t all that fond of the seas. Why swim when you can fly? It’s a no-brainer to her, although then again, maybe it’s because of the fact that being underwater has always made her somewhat uneasy…

”Giselle?” There’s a slight tilt of her head at the name, as if attempting to recall if there’s any familiarity to it. Alas, no bells ring. ”Not really, though I’m a bit of a new ranger myself. I hope she’s doing okay…”

After all, disappearing is not something most people want to hear about someone, especially not in a place as dangerous as Hoenn.

”Wyndon! Ah, I was wondering! Northern Galarian accents are very distinctive, but it’s always better not to assume, you know? You could be faking it or something.” At that, she winks playfully, a chuckle indicating that it’s no more than a joke. Lia is not the sort of person who is used to hidden identities and things of the sort.

A chuckle escaped from Rowan’s throat at the final comment, recognizing the humor in her inadvertently astute observation about pretending to be something other than what one presents themselves as. “I assure you this accent is as natural as the roots of my hair.” Much like the blonde streaks in his hair, there were parts of his life that were an outright lie.

“If you are genuine about finding Oceanography interesting, I’ll have to remember to invite you to Sea Mauville once I begin my research there. You’d be amazed by the ecology that exists in those waters, unlike anything else in the entire region.” Genuine excitement at the undertaking couldn’t be hidden, even if the intentions of the new research facility were less-than-innocuous.

In many ways, Lia is exactly who she seems; no more or no less than what she tells others about herself. She’s rarely one to lie about things and has no dark secrets to keep, and in the same way, she also has no reason to fake interest in anything. Among the many things Lia undeniably is, the fact that she’s a total nerd lies at the very top of the list.

“A pleasure, good luck with the rest of your event.” Rowan had no idea if she was here for business or romance so he decided to keep the well-wishes neutral. He’d keep the name in the back of his mind, hoping to remember to invite her along on a tour of the new facility once it was finished. Assuming he was able to get the funding and approval from Walsh, but something told him that wouldn’t be a problem going forward.

Instead, he chose to move on with the nature of Speed Dating, shifting his thoughts onto a new subject and whomever else he would be paired with for the next round. So far he hadn’t had a bad experience but there was bound to be a creep or two here.
