After the past two encounters (both were equally hilarious and illuminating) Lars now headed off to the next table—and was surprised whoever he was matched up with wasn’t there yet.

His Glaceon was awake now, curiously looking around and sniffing at everything before pacing around his feet like a worried watchdog and eventually settling down, blowing a nice little puff of wind around the underside of the table.

“Wonder who’s next.”

Of course he had no idea that the next person would be someone he worked with on a daily basis.

Seeing that they hadn’t arrived yet—he snuck out the vape and took a quick drag.

There was some kind of pattern forming here, all of his speed dates were with people he had very close personal ties to.

Two exes and his work-twin.

He sat down with a certain relief since it was Laurs sitting there.

He let his shoulders slump and deeply, he exhausted.

"Who are you dating?" Sénon was a bit tired but now there a string to pull on. He hadn't thought to inquire about what Laurs had going on in his love life in all these months working together but suddenly, he thought to ask.

Surely it was a bigger conversation for later; the two of them did have business to touch up on after all.

The memory of Articuno's graceful bow of gratitude at the forefront of his mind.

He’d already taken a few drags when he heard a familiar voice and very nearly cackled—only as he looked up the way he exhaled made him look like a fire-breathing dragon.

“Ah, there you are,” he remarked as he turned off the vape and pocketed it. Well, they were both here now—

And then he just had to come from out of nowhere with that question.

“Right now? Unattached… but only because my last partner had left on a journey… some time ago. But now, almost two years? Without a single word? It’s safe to say they’re… dead.”

Because if the other had been alive, there would’ve been a sign of life sent to him, at the very least.

“I just… have a feeling.”

After their 'other world experience' Sénon had been on the mend.

This speed dating stuff was the first he'd been in the public eye since the start of 2022.

The blow he took to the head left him moving a bit slowly through the winter when he was supposed to have been revving at full throttle.

Any plans of 'hibernating' from work like he normally did come spring were left where Shuriken died.

He'd asked about Laurs love life but when he got his answer he didn't much respond to it, as if he'd never asked at all.

He rubbed his left temple in annoyance of a phantom pain.

"Have you ever been to the Seafoam Islands?"

The next question caught him off-guard, he… he didn’t have an idea how to answer.

“Only other place I’ve been to is Alto Mare, in Johto… but that was like, fifteen years ago. Why do you ask?”

Admittedly, he only knew as much of the deity he had a partnership with thanks to the information that cait alfric had willingly shared with him when he visited her out at Fortree some time ago.

Hmm. There must be something behind this question…

“Does it have something to do… with them?”

There was only one he would refer to; hopefully the other would pick up on the hint.

Sénon didn't qualify why he was asking but when he got his own answer, he continued. He closed his eyes as if drawing on memories he hadn't revisited in years. "It's cold there. Largely barren. Nothing but tides, rocks and pokémon that like tides and rocks." It was just like that cave out in Dewford. "It's isolated and remote." -only much harder to get to. He remembered the place being off limits until he had multiple flyers, surfers and divers.

"A perfect frigid retreat from the world if you can handle the endless wild pokémon you'll come across."

He stopped elaborating to count his audience. "Hey Laurs"

Kantoians these days always got a little hot and bothered being reminded of home. "They're listening to this conversation now aren't they." Human and Pokémon.

He chuckled at the description of the Seafoam Islands.

“So basically, it’s the Kanto version of Shoal Cave, only minus the high tide and low tide shit Shoal Cave has going for it,” he replied with a bit of a cackle.

As for the last question? Lars felt his eyebrows rise, if for a few moments.

“Yeah—they can. Why’d you ask?”

If the other was thinking of trying to communicate directly with the deity, well, that was going to be—

A bell chimed around the area. Saved by the bell—for now, at least.

“Ah, shit, we’re out of time. If… if you want to talk more about this, well, we can meet up elsewhere outside of here. How’s that?”

He wanted to grin when his guess was confirmed as correct.

Or rather, he wanted to want to grin.

The synapse to actually do so never fired. Instead his deadpanned expression remained as the lines of his face seem to sharpen as he chose his words carefully.

He only seemed to just be getting to his point and already people were standing preemptive of the dating bell ringing to end this round of dates.

He went to speak but a flash of pain quieted him down for a second. His head hurt but he couldn't go rubbing his temple every time it hurt because he wasn't six years old anymore.

"I really miss Cinnabar Island." He stood up with the others, not offering much more of a hint or context beyond that. "Meet me outside the Gym in Fortree at sundown tomorrow." He touched Laur's shoulder as a silent affirmation they were still in solidarity.

With that he wandered away, seemingly ending his time speed dating. The echoes of his throbbing skull ending his attempt at a return to form.
