Even if in her sign up she had also selected business, the truth is that Ceri had mostly come here for romance. That being the case, the fact that most of her match ups had been focused on the former kind of really sucked, and she was eager to meet another potential romantic partner…

Infamous as his family might be, Calem is the picture of the polite gentleman when he makes his way over to his latest date. Shame this one was listed as business. Ceri Glynn was very pretty, if a bit young for his tastes.

"The pleasure is all mine, Ceri. Calem." He offers his hand to shake as he sits down. A Xatu sticks behind him, still as a statue, eyes peering somewhere far away.

"What brings you to the speed dating? If you'll excuse me for being bold, I find it hard to believe you would have trouble finding partners."

Sweet and innocent, or just an act she’s way too used to pulling? ”I guess you could say the business side of it is for the networking potential! I’m a grad student, but soon that’ll be over, so building connections is important, right?”

A solemn nod was given in agreement with Ceri Glynn. Networking was very important for such a job as hers.

"I'm not sure this meeting will be fruitful for you, unless networking with an art dealer helps. Though, a lovely conversation is always welcome." Calem stays serene, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips the whole time.

"I am afraid I am in the same boat as you, Ceri." His face softened a bit and smile lowered subtly- but did not go completely away. "It is harder than one would expect to find a partner." A pause. "Well, one who lasts for more than a night or so."

Ceri chuckles, delight filling her voice despite the admittance of lack of knowledge. Many would perhaps be stopped from saying things like those by their pride alone, but the simple fact is that art is not something that matters enough to her to pretend as if she knows much.

Plus, sometimes acting as if she doesn’t know things comes with benefits…

”That’s a shame, you sound like you’d make a great partner! I hope you find someone who lasts soon enough…” Lasts more than a night or so. Things like those she does know about, but of course she won’t say as much.

"In my experience, most people don't. I've sold shit smeared on a canvas for tens of thousands before. It's just good PR and how nice of a story you can spin." A shrug. Most of the art Calem had seen was, in his opinion, ugly as hell. Few artists and their work really captures his attention.

"That's very kind of you to say." Glancing around, Calem raises a hand for one of the bustling and busy waiters. Soon, a drink is slid to Ceri Glynn, something far too cheap for his tastes. Still, he raises his own. "A toast to our future luck in love?" Ice clinks in amber liquid. Their time was almost up, after all.

The problem with art, as Ceri sees it, is that it’s too subjective – that there’s no tangible criteria to differentiate what's good from what’s bad. At least not as far as she’s aware, and Calem’s retelling of his experience with it sure seems to prove exactly that. Still, it’s amusing enough to earn a light laugh on her part:

In a way, even science could be like that sometimes. Before peer review happened and someone replicated another’s experiments, it was all about who could write the most convincing paper with the most believable hypothesis…

Drinks are ordered and she gives him a thankful smile, raising a glass to meet Calem’s just as the ding of a bell marks the end of their date. ”To our future luck in love… Hope your next date proves more helpful in that regard. It was nice to meet you, Calem.”

The bell dings to signal the end and Calem tips his drink back.

"I hope your next date is excellent as well, Ceri." A small nod to her as Calem places his empty glass back down with a small 'tink' on the table. "Come, Xatu." The psychic type, which had been eerily still the whole time, now gives a very subtle shift as his trainer moves.
