He wasn’t expecting to have to put the plan into practice so soon!

Who knew that the unstable ‘rifts’ would cause havoc regardless of location—this one was the absolute worst, though.

It was right next to Verdanturf! Well, on the perimeter around the town, but still—it was definitely more than enough cause for concern. And Verdanturf was lucky enough to have one of the Head Rangers living nearby, eh?!

All he could do now was send a very quick text to Razz, along with a particular set of instructions as he waited—watched, and waited for the other to arrive.

Either this hypothesis was going to work or it was going to backfire spectacularly. There was no in-between, there was only one way to find out if the insanity he’d thought of previously was going to bear some fruition.

Standing so close to a ‘rift’ also made him really uneasy… was he hearing things, or were there roaring noises coming from within its depths?!

It took a bit to get here. As Razz had dealt with another of these odd space rifts on his way there. It was why his Rufflet had evolved into such an odd looking Braviary and was flying him to Laurence Anderson now rather than his Corviknight before hand. As he lands he pets the bird as a thank you before he walks closer to Lars. [break][break]

"Anderson," he greets because now they were on a mission together and Razz was only comfortable with first names with colleagues when they weren't working together or something. [break][break]

"I brought what you asked for, so how much do you trust your theory?" he questions with a tilted head, curious.

Ah, it was time to get started, the moment he heard the other’s voice addressing him.

“It’s the best that we have, if I’m being honest with you,” he remarked.

“I ask you, have you found any other pockets of energy similar to what we encountered back then?” he continued as he looked at the crackling, ominously-humming distortion before steeling his nerves.

He doubted the other would be able to answer.

“And going off by what they said about these things being able to store energy? This is the best shot I can think of,” he went on as he squared his shoulders and took a deep breath, before entering into the strange ‘rift’ that thrummed with otherworldly power.

And besides, should my theory be correct, then we have a potentially viable chance of understanding and maybe using these things! He thought to himself as he waited for the other to follow him inside.

Once the other had caught up, he quickly summoned his go-to, Ro the Metagross.

“Keep an eye out for anything,” he muttered so low that only the shining silver beast could hear.

"Fair enough," he comments as he follows the older ranger inside the dome, Salem sticking on Razz's right shoulder to help cover up the younger man's blind spot. His tails showing that he was on high alert as Razz returned the Braviary in favor for his Greninja, Royal. The frog pokemon taking a look around the strange area.[break][break]

From his pocket he could already feel the heat from the rock begin to happen, but besides that heat there didn't seem to be much. The ninja pokemon then makes a sound of warning as he uses his tongue to wrap around his trainer and hide in the large bushes from pokemon suddenly appearing. If Lars didn't dive him himself the Greninja would use his tongue to grab them as well to keep hidden. [break][break]

All he could really do is give a hum of thought as he watches the pokemon wondering, some disappearing in another flash that made them appear in the first place. "Do you think we need to go deeper for this? Because I have a possible idea," he offers to see if the other would be interested.

Now that Ro was out and about (admittedly, his only Pokémon that had experience with traversing into these ‘distortions’ so far, as he didn’t want to risk any of his other Pokémon companions) and keeping an eye out for them, he turned to face the other after being whisked out of the line of sight of any potential violent encounters they might run into (courtesy of the other’s Greninja).

“What’s your idea?” he offered.

The floor was his, anyway.

“My hypothesis is that, what if the center of these ‘distortions’ are the ones where the most ‘energy’ can be found?” he mused out loud, never mind if he was thinking of so many potential situations at once.

He could feel the thing thrumming in his pocket. Was that a good or a bad reaction?

Only time would tell.

“You want me to get the thing out now so we can test your idea first before we try out mine?” he added a few moments afterward, ready to pull it out as needed.

Razz just points toward the barrier, "While your theory seems valid I believe that the barrier that encircles and separates the bubble might work as well," he explains hoping that it made sense to the older man. Razz looks to Salem as he carefully takes out the rock and places it on the ground to not be touching it fully. [break][break]

"Think you can use your psychic to hold it up at the edge?" he ask the Meowstic who gives his trainer a little salute before he does as asked. using PSYCHIC to pick up the Dynergy Core at the edge of the Time Distortion to see if there might come any sort of reaction to it.[break][break]

TEMPORAL RIFT

UPON ENTERING THE DISTORTION, the presence of space time unwinds with thunderous tears. nothing of interest happens immediately. but as they spend more time within the distortion, it’s influence will overtake them.

pokemon spawn. different species glitch in and out of existence. the DYNERGY CORE in their possession also starts to change. it heats up until pink shimmers of light radiate from between the cracks. as long as it remains within the distortion, the changes are evident. however, the moment it is removed, it reverts back to its natural state.

should they overstay their welcome, the DYNERGY CORE will return to normal all on its own accord. contrary to their hypothesis, it doesn’t seem to absorb any energy from the SPACE-TIME DISTORTION. the changes were instant, exhibiting the same shifts that have affected CERTAIN POKEMON and the SUPPOSED AGING of those caught within the distortion.

it's as if the DYNERGY CORE too was subjected to the whims of time...

At first, there was nothing.

And then, everything just came crashing down on them all at once.

“Holy sh—” he hissed, seeing that there were Pokémon suddenly appearing from out of nowhere—but not exactly fully materializing.

Similar to—definitely similar to the ‘distortions’ that would appear every so often (hell, the last one that was reported appeared in the middle of the fucking Slateport Mall for crying out loud)…

Initially, the blue-and-red rock didn’t manifest any changes… at first.

However, the longer they stayed within, the more—

“Are… are you seeing this?!” he exclaimed quietly, finally pulling out his own ‘core’ and watching as the blue-and-red coloration was slowly, surely overtaken by the similar energy that he remembered only seeing once before.

“What do you make of it?”

It seems like the plan works. For now at least, perhaps the power in these 'distortions' was something similar to that of the stone. Or enough that it would activate it. These things were about time and space right? Was it just reverting the stone to a time where it had power? All these thoughts roll in his head as the Head Ranger speaks. [break][break]

"Seems interiging but the question is can we do the same thing your Metagross did with it?" Razz questions as he looks around as the air seemed to get louder, and the barrier spinning faster. It was disappearing, "And if it stays after this goes away"

“You want me to try it now? I mean, we could—” he trailed off, looking over where his Metagross stood guard, a silent sentinel, steely red eyes affixed on the ‘glitchy’ Pokémon that were appearing and fading in and out of reality.

It was like—the energy within the confined space was affecting the shiny rock that he was also holding, but the thing is…

“Does it work the same way as Mega Evolution does? Touch the rock to the Pokémon, or do we just let it do its own thing?”

So many unanswered questions; so many potential hypotheses, along with an equal amount of doubt in his words. There was nothing else to it, really.

“Asides from what we both know, they didn’t give any further instructions on how to use the rock, did they,” he confirmed.
