"luka chêne," he says, chest heaving ever-so slightly, "i joined a sand castle building contest, and my partner dropped out, and it starts in like.. 3 minutes, and, er — i need you!" with a firm grip, he's tugging her along.

so much in a rush, he didn't even consider the fact that she was in beach attire. he must really want to win.

A panting explanation is half lost to the ocean breeze as Greyson drags Luka behind him. Something something sand castle, something something partner...all she really understands is that he needs her help, and that's more than enough to go willingly.[break][break]

Her gauzy sarong flutters behind her like butterfly wings and pink curls shine under the summer sunshine.

It's a cute look, but running through the sand in wedges and a teeny swimsuit is actually the worst. Eventually Luka starts to tug on Greyson's arm with a gentle insistence, hoping he'll slow down.[break][break]

"I'll help, I'll help!" she promises between labored breaths, "But can we please not run anymore?"[break][break]

her voice comes muted over the rush of blood in his ears, but when they finally push through the scarlet veil, he comes to an almost abrupt stop.

"Sorry, uh- there was a time limit, and, i just nervous about not making it." he says, free hand patting down his hair awkwardly.[break][break]

"That's okay! I'm okay, really!" She's a little breathless, but Luka still manages to stammer out assurances while recovering from their sprint. Her face is flushed as well— with exertion, mostly, though she does have to double check to make sure her swimsuit survived as well.[break][break]

It's a little out of place. She fixes the top with a flush.[break][break]

"I didn't realize you were that into sandcastles," she says. And it's a silly thing to say, really, because who would expect that? "But I think it's kind of cute! I'll definitely make sure you win."

If he's staring, Luka doesn't notice. She fidgets with spandex and soft gauzy ruffles, adjusting the sarong around her hips until it lays just right.[break][break]
"Ehh, really? Then I won't let you down, I promise!" She's earnest, sincere- perhaps overly so. Luka grabs one of Greyson's hands in both of hers, clasping it tight while her eyes gleam. This is no matter of life and death, but she still treats it with the utmost urgency.[break][break]

"Uhmmm...I'm good enough, I think!" Actually she hasn't built a sandcastle since she was a child but it shouldn't be too hard, right? Besides, things will surely go much more smoothly with a partner.[break][break]

"Do you have, um....buckets? Trowels? Some water? We can't just start with it dry, Monsieur. It needs to be wet first!"

Soap bubble laughter floats from her lips— he sounds so serious! It's incredibly endearing. Luka nods along as Greyson explains his technique, trying to take this just as seriously as he is.[break][break]

"Eh...we aren't there yet?" Her gaze travels farther up the beach and towards a steadily gathering crowd. "Oh...whoops! Okay okay, let's hurry then! We don't want to miss it."[break][break]

This time Luka's the one to grab Greyson's hand, tugging him forwards with an eager smile.[break][break]

"Don't worry! I'll make sure you come first!"

he lets himself get pulled along, laughing quickly as he does. pounding sand beneath their feet, they arrive just in time, parting the crowd to take their place.

taking their spot, he kneels over the circled area assigned to them.

"it's okay even if i come second, as long as we're both really enjoying ourselves. i'm not used to being the one that comes first usually, you know?" the countdown begins, a digital clock in a red readout, but greyson strikes it from his mind as he works on a plan.

"i think you'll need to use both hands at first, and focus on setting a tempo, you know?" he hands luka a bucket for her to work with, while he points to a spot with his other hand, "meanwhile i'll use a few fingers here, slowly increasing as it opens up. what do you think?"

Innuendo flies right over her head— she's too sweetly earnest for that. Luka hums as she gets to work, filling buckets with damp, tightly packed sand to start building the foundations of their castle.[break][break]

"So...we have to start with the base, right? And work our way up?" Carnation lips purse while she concentrates and tries not to jostle Greyson too much in the small space they share. "How big do you want it, Monsieur?"[break][break]
