Nomi's didn't even bother trying to reel in the extra-large Gyarados chomping down hard on the end of her fishing line. "Just take the bait and go!" She half-laughed, half-yelled at the massive creative. It let go and sawm off without putting up too much of a fight. What was with this fishing spot? So many gigantic Pokémon seemed to live here! Seeing a Gyarados of that size reminded Nomi of her virtual reality battle against a massive Gyarados with jack wainwright not too long ago. She made a mental note to contact him to hang out soon.[break][break]
"Getting a drink after this sounds fun!" Nomi exclaimed at Ramsey's suggestion. "I'd be happy to visit Howling with you both, before I head home for the night."[break][break]
She attached a new bait to the end of her line, realizing that the bag was nearly half-empty. She could hardly believe her luck - she had never in a million years expected to go through half a pack of 30 fishing baits in one sitting. As soon as she threw the line back into the water, Nomi's fishing rod jerked once again and she grabbed on tight.[break][break]

Xiura reeled in her catch, then tossed the average-sized Pokemon back in. Meanwhile, Nomi had caught a full Gyarados! Xiura laughed at the sight of such a giant Pokemon at the end of the slender woman's line.

She looked up in surprise at the invitation from @bishop, then grew thoughtful. "Yes, I'd like to go." She smiled. "It'll be nice to see Zev again, and I'm overdue to try out some of Nomi's brews. I wonder if they have tasting options there."

She grinned playfully at Naomi Sato, saying, "Yes! Do come, Nomi. I'd love an expert's opinion on which brews to try out as a beginner."

Another Milotic emerged from the water at the end of Bishop's line, a bigger one than the last, but still normal-sized. He carefully released it from his hook.[break][break]

"It's a date then!" the man declared after his companions agreed to go drinking with him. Of course, it was totally platonic — there was no way he was interested in literally dating either Xiura or Nomi. But who could say 'no' to the company of two adorable young women, especially when alcohol was involved?[break][break]

Bishop recast his line and checked his watch. "Looks like the fishing competition is gonna wrap up in a bit. Better catch your best fish in the next few minutes, girls."[break][break]

Xiura clapped her hands as best as she could while still holding onto the fishing rod. "I'm sure Zev will welcome the business. I'm excited to go with you two!"

With the reminder of the end of the fishing contest, she stared anxiously at the lure bobbing in the water, hoping something would bite soon. Luckily, something tugged at her line. Hastening her reeling, Xiura held her breath to see what she would catch next.

"I think I -- " Nomi struggled to say as she heaved on her fishing line. "-- may have won the contest -- !" The Wiscash attached to her fishing rod was easily three times her size! She had never seen one so large before. With a yelp, she went flying out of her seat and into the ocean as the massive fish Pokémon began to swim away. Nomi quickly came up for air, sputtering, hair sticking to her cheeks as she attempted to climb back onto the pier. She tried not to drip too much water on Xiura and Ramsey, or on the sandwiches (which were nearly gone, thank goodness).[break][break]
Valerian had finally perked up, a concerned look on his face. "I'm allright, Val," she called over to the Sylveon, waving for him to go back to sleep if he wanted to. She smiled apologetically at her companions. "well that was crazy! I guess I'll have to change before we hit the bar." She looked down at her soaking wet clothing, glad, at least, for the bathing suit she wore underneath of her t-shirt and shorts. She pulled a towel out of her bag and began drying off her hair.[break][break]
"Who knew fishing could be so exciting?" She asked, the question somewhat rhetorical. Dry enough to continue with the task at hand, Nomi looked around for her fishing rod. It had floated back to the pier and she leaned out over the water to grab it. She was glad the Wiscash hadn't decided to take it with him. She untangled the line and attached a new bait. "I hope I don't regret giving this another go..."[break][break]

Xiura clapped her hands over her mouth as Naomi Sato was pulled into the sea and climbed out, entirely drenched. "Oh no! Are you okay?"

She patted Nomi sympathetically on the shoulder as she toweled off. Thankfully it seemed like the other woman was all right.

"It wouldn't be a bad idea for all of us to go home and change. I'm sure we've all worked up a sweat over these large Pokemon."

She cast her line, waiting for a bite.

Bishop was too busy reeling in a tiny Goldeen to catch Nomi before her most recent catch yanked her into the water. The unceremonious splash of her fall drew his attention.[break][break]

"Yo, are you okay?" he asked, though with much less shock and concern than what Xiura had expressed. After all, the pink-haired girl easily pulled herself out of the water and back onto the pier.[break][break]

He recast his line — presumably, for the last time — and nodded at Xiura's suggestion. "Yeah, I'm soaked through too thanks to that huge Magikarp from earlier. Can't exactly go into a bar drippin' wet and expecting to have a good time."[break][break]

There was more than enough time left before nightfall to shower, change, and meet up again.[break][break]

"A shower sounds wonderful," Nomi admitted as her companions discussed heading home for a bit after fishing, then reconvening at Howling at the Moon later in the evening. Nomi didn't have very much homework tonight, and nothing scheduled for her new...job, which meant she could definitely stay out a bit later tonight. It would be fun to drink with Xiura and Ramsey; she had a feeling Ramsey could out-drink the both of them, but that just meant he would be able to try all of her beers, which pleased Nomi. Hopefully Seraphine hasn't scheduled an early morning for him tomorrow![break][break]
"I think I've got one more attempt in me after this," Nomi resolved. After releasing her recently caught Mantine, she threw her fishing line back into the water, wondering how all these massive Pokémon came to be in this exact location...[break][break]

As he waited for a bite, he tried to remember all of the Pokémon he'd caught that afternoon. Some of them likely still swam under the pier, lurking. The contest organizers had said that they could keep one of their catches, but which one?[break][break]

Before he could decide, his fishing rod vibrated with the strength of one final Pokémon. Bishop quickly reeled it in.[break][break]

Nomi couldn't help but laugh at the absolutely ridiculously tiny Magikarp she'd just pulled out of the water. Was it actually a baby? After all those massive Pokémon from earlier, it was comically small. She helped it back into the water as it flopped about, clearly frazzled, then swiftly re-cast her line into the ocean one last time.[break][break]
"Thank you both for keeping me company during the contest," Nomi declared to her two friends, old and new. "It's been fun, but I'm definitely looking forward to the bar later. And getting out of these wet clothes!"

Nomi turned to look over at the little Horsea she'd caught first, still munching on some of the fruit sandwich she'd given him, the only one of her catches to stick around (though some hadn't had a choice, as they had been too big for Nomi to reel in properly). "How'd you like to come home with me?" She asked happily. The little water Pokemon trilled with joy.
