If Hoenn in late summer was hot, Fiery Path under Mt. Chimney was sweltering. Bishop wiped sweat from his brow for the hundredth time as he followed Ceri Glynn down the rocky passage in pursuit of the space-time distortion reported in the area.[break][break]

Whatever that was.[break][break]

Bishop had been eager to join the young woman on this trek into the wilderness, another mission issued by their superiors through the M.A.G.M.A. Division. Anything to help out the organization and learn more about his peers and their work. But he was starting to regret his decision. Couldn't one of these distortions have appeared on a beach or in a cool forest, or something?[break][break]

But based on what he'd been told of their nature, these phenomena were random and temporary. That was why he'd been sent; he was already nearby, and the sooner Rocket's people could arrive to investigate, the sooner they could collect precious data — and perhaps more.[break][break]

"What are you hopin' to find in this… thing once we get there?" he asked Ceri, hoping the conversation would distract him from the sweat dripping down his back.

@bishop gives her “hot old man” vibes, with this of course being any attractive man over twenty five in Ceri’s eyes. This thought in itself amuses her while they climb up Mt Chimney’s treacherous Fiery Path, but what really keeps her from whining at all during what actually makes for a rather arduous trek has nothing to do with the man Team Rocket had assigned to accompany her today.

There’s an active Space-Time Distortion up ahead.
[break][break]
The intricacies of rifts in the space-time continuum, studying them, and experimenting in them, are not the reason why she’s so interested in making it up to the location of the fleeting phenomenon before it fades. Those things are better left to experts in physics such as Lulu Flint and kepler brueshaber. The stranger pokémon that appear in these rifts, however? Now, that sure is more her speed! To the point that when Bishop asks, she beams up at him excitedly, as if she had been hoping for it:

”Oh! They didn’t tell you?” Of course not. Team Rocket generally only shares information on a need to know basis, which can be rather annoying for someone like her. She’s always curious. She always has questions. ”Super strong and super aggressive pokémon, mainly! You’re supposed to watch my back while I do some testing. Maybe we’ll collect a specimen if we find an interesting one, yeah?”

She doesn’t seem concerned at all, and when she speaks, her every word is drenched in an undeniable northern Galarian accent.

”Ah, but don’t worry! A couple of my pokémon can help we get swarmed or something.”

Oh, that made sense. Bishop nodded at the young woman's explanation. "Super strong and super aggressive Pokémon, huh?" he echoed, a grin growing on his features. "Sounds fun. I'd like a challenge like that."[break][break]

In anticipation of such an event, he removed two Pokéballs from his belt and released their residents. His Obstagoon and Scrafty appeared in twin flashes of light.[break][break]

"Get ready for some action, you two," he said to them as they fell into step behind him. "Our job today's to protect Ceri here from wild Pokémon attacks. You think you can handle that?"[break][break]

They both nodded, vocalizing their determination in unison.[break][break]

Before long, the group rounded a bend in the winding, cavernous path and came upon a sight Bishop had never seen before: a wall of what he could only describe as purple energy that emitted a strange, electrified aura. He stopped dead in his tracks, every hair on his neck standing on end. His grin faded.[break][break]

"Whoa," he whispered, the trepidation evident in his voice.

”D’aw! Cute Obstagoon!” Ceri has a very particular definition of cute and it generally doesn’t align with the thoughts of most people. Just like how she thinks the Salazzle she then releases from a pink pokéball is adorable, while the elegant and slender pokémon gives Bishop the most murderous look in existance.

If Ceri notices this, she sure acts as if she didn’t, instead marching onwards towards the distortion.
[break][break]
”Whoa.”
[break][break]
”Right? Isn’t it the coolest?!” Where Bishop’s tone is filled with trepidation at the sight of the rift in space-time, her own is filled with pure awe, and it’s without hesitation that she steps forward – a hand breaking through the membrane of the distortion. ”Come on!”

There’s static in the air and in the skies dark clouds swirl, but all of these things are no less exciting to her.

”Okey dokey, I’ll set up my cameras and what not… Watch your back! Pokémon can appear out of the blue.”
[break][break]
Almost as if on cue, moments after they step into the distortion, a roaring pair of Ursaluna appears out of thin air.

Ceri marched through the strange purple wall without a moment's hesitation, her Salazzle following her dutifully. Bishop and his own Pokémon paused within arm's reach of the distortion, but then the man gritted his teeth and charged right in. A strange jolt passed through him but subsided as soon as he was fully on the other side. The hiss of electricity announced that Obstagoon and Scrafty had also walked through.[break][break]

Bishop barely had time to respond to Ceri when the Ursaluna attacked. He had never seen one before, and barely got out a bewildered "What the fuck is that?!" before Scrafty leaped between them and threw a FOCUS PUNCH at the strange bear.[break][break]

"Holy shit!" Bishop swore as the Ursaluna reeled back. Then he turned to Obstagoon. "Go guard Ceri. Let's keep together as much as possible."[break][break]

Obstagoon nodded and took off after the young woman, who was busy setting up her cameras. Bishop followed at a slower pace, making sure Scrafty was close by. The Hoodlum Pokémon moved slowly in the direction of Ceri and her Salazzle, making sure never to show her back to her foe.[break][break]

The Ursaluna charged again, and Scrafty knocked it out with a well placed LOW KICK.

She has kept a timer going on her phone from the moment the distortion first appeared: counting every second. She knows they’re working against the clock, so she moves fast and no distraction stops her from setting up the cameras.

Through it all, a tune is whistled, almost as if the arguably-supernatural chaos around her means nothing to her.
[break][break]
The first thing the cameras capture? Her Salazzle burning a strange Lilligant that just to happens to be getting too close to them.
[break][break]
”You good over there, Bishop?!” Ceri calls out, her gaze fixed on the unusual variants of pokémon around them. It’s all fascinating to her, to the point that it fills her with excitement.

Of course, she also knows it's a dangerous place, but it should be fine, right? It's not like anything bad will actually happen. Bad things never happen...

Just as Ceri thinks that, an Electrode variant rolls into view.

"Yeah, I'm good!" Bishop shouted back as he and Scrafty ran toward Ceri's setup with her cameras. Obstagoon was already there at the woman's side, watching for any intruders. When the strange Electrode rolled up and started glowing, a terrible feeling gripped Bishop. "Obstagoon, kick it away!"[break][break]

The Pokémon obliged, leaping toward the Electrode and sending it flying backward with a HEADBUTT. Then Obstagoon scrambled back, his claws digging into the rocky ground. At the same time, Bishop grabbed Ceri and hugged her against his chest, spinning them both around so that his back faced the Electrode.[break][break]

BOOM![break][break]

The entire cavern shook with the force of the EXPLOSION. Rocky debris and dust rained down upon the two humans and their Pokémon — not enough to harm any of them, thankfully. Still, when Bishop released Ceri, streams of dirt fell off his shoulders and head.[break][break]

"You okay?" he asked her, holding her now at arm's length and quickly scanning her for injury.

Ceri is in the middle of gushing about the Electrode when Bishop grabs her, leaving her confused. What’s this all of a sudden? What does he want? Kind of forward of him, isn’t it? She would yell at him, maybe even hit him, but it’s there and then that the sound of an explosion shakes her to her core.

Right…
[break][break]
She had grown so used to the controlled conditions of laboratories that she had almost forgotten that wild pokémon rarely behave like those she studies most often. She had warned Bishop about how aggressive the pokémon in space-time distortions can be, and yet she had still lowered her guard in her excitement. While he looks at her, assessing for injuries, Ceri internally chides herself for making such a foolish mistake.

”I’m good, no worries!” She beams up at him, appearing as gleeful as ever. A hand gently grabs onto his arm to get him to let go, and it’s then that realisation shines in her gaze. ”Shit! The cameras!”

Not caring for danger anymore, Ceri goes to check on the equipment. Her Salazzle had managed to ensure one of the cameras stayed intact, but the other one has a cracked lens. She sighs then.

”Ugh… I hope they don’t invoice me for that…”
[break][break]
Oh well, that’s just the risk of distortions, right?

Obstagoon ♂ | Reckless | Cross Chop, Double-Edge, Headbutt, Night Slash, Scary Face, Taunt

Bishop had no qualms letting Ceri run to her equipment, though he and his Pokémon kept vigilant watch over the area while the woman was distracted. A strange-looking Typhlosion emerged from the shadows of the cavern as if it had passed through the rock itself. It sighted the group and snarled.[break][break]

"Trouble's coming. Scrafty?" Bishop said. His Pokémon rushed forward without waiting for further command. Nimbly, she dodged a breath of fire from the Typhlosion before knocking it to the ground with a swift PAYBACK.[break][break]

On the other side of Bishop, Ceri, and her Salazzle, an unusual Zoroark phased into view, ghostly pale in comparison to its normally dark fur. Obstagoon bared his fangs at it before attacking with NIGHT SLASH. The Zoroark fell back, the two exchanging blows before the white-furred Pokémon fled.[break][break]

"Did you manage to get what you need?" Bishop asked Ceri as he closely watched the battles around them.
