Fallen leaves coat the path among trees, painting the ground in warm shades. The Quilava of brown fur skitters up ahead, almost blending in perfectly with her surroundings. She’s quick; a small and slender pokémon that thrives in an environment like this.

When hearing Mars say her name, the Quilava pauses, standing on her hind legs and looking back at him. Flames spark up on her tail and crest, as if she were excited.

He hasn’t spent a lot of time training Aetna himself, so it’s no surprise when she does wander too far ahead. Mars doesn’t stop her after the first warning; she should know better.

An eventual startled yelp tells him that she has learned.
[break][break]
The cause? The ground beneath her paws; sand that shifts and threatens to bury her in its depths. A Palossand. Something which, of course, the young Quilava doesn’t realise in her distress.

”Aetna.” Her name is spoken to call to her attention, but the moment she looks at him, he clicks his tongue. The command to attack. She doesn’t hesitate in response. A FLAMETHROWER is shot, fire swirling and burning the fallen leaves beneath which hides the Palossand.

Mars gives no commands from that point on, he just watches her deal with the wild pokémon – judging.

Once the Palossand has been dealt with, the Quilava seems to make sure to stay close to Mars – a lesson learned thanks to the sudden realisation that danger lurks all around. She’s overly aware of it now. She walks only a metre or two ahead of him, and as they make their way up to the summit of Mt. Pyre, she keeps her nose close to the ground, sniffing with every step as if expecting more enemies to appear from amongst dead leaves and grass.

Mars doesn’t correct this behaviour. He’s never against caution.

In fact, it’s the Quilava’s caution that warns them of the presence of a Sableye nearby, for when Aetne hears it lurking amongst trees, she pauses, standing on her hind legs to get a better look at her surroundings. Once she spots the Darkness Pokémon, she growls, flames sparking up on her crest once more.

Mars clicks his tongue once more. The only command needed for Aetna to charge forward.

It clearly pleases the Volcano Pokémon, and she exclaims happily even once the treat has been consumed. Now reinvigorated, Aetna is ready to face anything that might stand in their way.

In this case, a Baltoy she growls at when noticing its approach.

Surprisingly, Mars is still missing one of those, and so, he clicks his tongue once more.

Even while standing metres away, he can feel the heat of Aetna’s ERUPTION.
