Isaac called, recognizing the telltale motions of an Anchor Shot from Sanford's own battling style. Through the thinning hail, the Galarian Rapidash was able to leap clean over the blow, mane twinkling like the aurora borealis.[break][break]

Yet Isaac had no way of preparing for what came next. When the Corviknight took to the skies and started aimlessly flapping its wings, he shot Gavin a confused look. He didn't feel the intense breezes of a Whirlwind or Hurricane. He didn't see the telltale glimmer of a Steel Beam. It wasn't drifting back to build momentum for a Drill Peck or Brave Bird, or circling the air for a swooping claw strike. Instead it was just . . . flapping and shedding, as if it had mange.[break][break]

Neither he nor Charles knew the barrage was coming until it was too late.[break][break]

Steely feathers rained down on Charles like a meteor shower. By the time the Galarian Rapidash was even aware of their presence, one had already sliced him across the shoulder. He startled, a dare moment of distress visible on his perpetually grumpy face, and prepared to run.[break][break]

No. That'd only make this worse. "Hold fast and brace yourself," Isaac said, the Galarian Rapidash hunkering down to endure the incoming blows. At least now they would focus on his lowered head and squared shoulders, instead of slicing his vulnerable flank into a torn-up mess.[break][break]

A light began to glow at the tip of Charles' horn. His knees began to waver. Isaac worried at the inside of his cheek with his teeth. The feathers stuck into the ground around them with enough force to shake the sub. Pained cries and the crash of steel on steel echoed across the room. With each second, Isaac could feel Charles fading. Whether it was due to Gavin's actions or his own was unclear.[break][break]

Finally, rearing up and letting out a defiant whinny, light exploded from Charles' horn. When it faded, the Galarian Rapidash was out cold. "You held out as long as you could, buddy. Amazing job," Isaac said, returning him to his ball. In his place emerged Sanford, who had plenty of time to rest up on the sidelines and was now ready to finish the fight.[break][break]

While Charles was out cold, Bongo's Pokeball burned all too hot. It was time.
