Shalin was familiar with more sentient Pokémon; Starr was smarter than she was, the Espeon preferring to communicate directly with her mind rather than be physically directed by reins, for instance. She wondered if the Type: Null she was creating with the flesh, blood, and tears of her Pokémon would be the same. Maybe she could mentally communicate with it in a limited fashion, much like her psychic-types.

"Sounds like the species itself is a recent discovery," Shalin added. "Hopefully, when this is over, I can help you learn more about them."

Shalin's eyes at last spotted an electric-type she could use! She could tell by the sparks flying from its face. As soon as it turned its head toward her, her face turned to a quizzical look. "What is that Pokémon? It's obviously an electric-type but I've never seen it before," she asked James as Squeals, her quite-large Raticate, gave chase at the girl's command. The Normal-type and wild exchange fierce CRUNCHes and AERIAL ACEs. Realizing she was outmatched, Shalin's saddle-wearing partner retreated, the Dracozolt giving chase. The green-ette hurled a vacant Poké Ball toward the strange creature before it could grab her Pokémon by the tail.

With her capture made and an electric Pokémon in her menagerie, Shalin stood up and sent out Grimmie, her Houndoom. "Don't think we're gonna find much more loitering around here. How about we go a bit deeper into New Mauville?" the girl suggested. "I'd like to track something down like a Luxray. Or a Vikavolt. That'd be really fun to hop on!" If James was in touch with Rory Faust , he would recognize the Houndoom almost instantly. She howled, nuzzling Shalin, followed by James if he allowed it, before crouching to let her trainer aboard.

Regardless of travel arrangements, their discussion of the Galarian species would continue. "Oh, so it's an electric-type and a dragon-type both?" she asked. "There aren't a lot of dragon-type Pokémon with a typically friendly disposition. Most of them are really slow to get used to you."
