Thankfully for Guillermo Marceliño , Shalin, a new recruit to Verdanturf's Rangers, was there to answer the distress call. Since obtaining her SYGNA SUIT, the bond with her Pokémon had grown substantially. She had acquired it so recently that she was still testing what it could do. Not wanting to chance her limited understanding of it in a production environment, she instead came dressed in her green Ranger uniform. She was still a Rookie by rank, though she outperformed many of her peers. It was why she was entrusted with the task of getting the beached Wailord back into Lilycove's cold waters. There was just one problem.

The task called for a Mega Evolved Pokémon.

She hadn't Mega Evolved Queen Zing in months out of fear the wasp would go berserk. While she hoped that what she needed to do didn't require it, she had to be prepared to pull the trigger and do her best to keep the enormous bug's instincts under control. Reining the blue-eyed Beedrill over Lilycove's coastline, the noisy buzzing would have been impossible for Guillermo Marceliño to miss. As Shalin's insectile ride landed, she set the Beedrill's reins down and waved, taking her earplugs out once the enormous wings were silent. "Morning, Captain!" she shouted over the wind.

"Yep!" the Rookie-but-not-Rookie chirped back, hesitant to slide off her mount due to dulled senses the Shiny insect's vibration induced. "Wildest Pokémon rider this side of Hoenn, they call me!" By "they", it was just "her". "I've been doing a lot of work for Verdanturf's Rangers off-book, and just joined up a few months ago."

Shalin grinned at the mention of Alex. "We've known each other since before I became a Ranger!" She rambled on about their goings-on prior to formally joining, including the twin AVIAN BOWS they had. "Queen Zing's wings can blow a lot of air around, especially when she Mega Evolves," she bragged of her Pokémon, which she at last slid down from. Her legs gave out a little, but not so much that she couldn't catch herself and prevent herself from falling onto the sandy shore. "Given how light they are relative to their size, I might be able to take advantage of that. We'll figure something out!" If Memo looked carefully, he would be able to see her Pokémon's BEEDRILLITE partially embedded in the front of the green wasp's saddle.

"Ready," Shalin confirmed, mounting up once more before raising her right hand to be level with the Key Stone embedded in her MEGA CIRCLET. Inside the violet-pink light of MEGA EVOLUTION, the Beedrill grew even larger than before, her gear designed to accommodate the change. Growing two more deadly stings that looked even sharper than the ones her normal self wielded.

Queen Zing's blue, compound eyes flashed varying shades, her head shifting about, as though she were looking for prey. Her demeanor had changed post-Mega Evolution, acting more like the species was known for: extreme aggression. "I know you're excited, but we need you to help this Wailord back into the sea," Shalin gently pat the battle-crazed wasp. "Hover as close as you can to it and start buzzing your wings directly at it, preferably without touching it."

After putting her earplugs back in, the two were off with far more agility than before Mega Evolution. Guillermo Marceliño may have realized the purpose of Shalin riding her Mega Beedrill. It wasn't to go on a fun thrill ride; it was to keep the Beedrill on task and from attacking the Wailord, or other wild Pokémon, instead. With a bit of coaxing from Shalin, she did as asked. Shalin's hair blew wildly about in the wake of the moving air currents created by her mount's wings moving so fast they were nearly invisible. Without her Sygna Suit, the vibration caused every hair on her body to stand on end, her lower body rattling like she was on a jackhammer. She had been so used to her suit that she forgot how intense the shaking could get. Sand went flying everywhere around Shalin and her insect. The goal of generating the fierce air current was to push the lighter-than-water Wailord down the beach and into the sea again.

There was only one more on her side of the beach, thank goodness. As Queen Zing repeated the process of blowing the water-type into the ocean using her huge wings, the mighty vibration rattled Shalin to the point where pangs of pain shot up her limbs. Unable to stand the motion anymore, the Ranger manually reverted her mount's Mega Evolution, the vicious wasp turning back to her docile self. "Captain, can I get a hand with this last one, please?" she groaned. "I'm not feeling so--"

The pale look on her face from feeling ill became much more profound when the girl witnessed just how Memo was handling the Wailord. The Mega Banette's presence, as well as use of PHANTOM FORCE, left her scared stiff. Ghost-types in general didn't scare her, but this ghost put her over the edge. She turned away, but it did little good to get the nightmare fuel out of her head.

It was far too late. Shalin felt sick; the presence of the Mega Banette was vomit-inducing for the girl. After she lost her lunch then dry heaved a few times, she withdrew Queen Zing and crawled toward Memo. "I think when... I get inside... I'll feel... okay," she managed, bringing out Rielle, her Vaporeon. Crouching down as low as she could, the water-type did her best to accommodate the green-ette's weakened strength. It was a bit of a struggle for her to climb on, but she managed, starting to feel a little better when the Vaporeon's HYDRATION cooled her down.

"Amazing, isn't it..." she mused aloud. "In my Sygna Suit, I can balance myself on my Beedrill's wing in motion, yet I can't handle being in her presence." The speed at which Memo had seen Queen Zing's wings going may have given him an idea of how utterly ridiculous Shalin's claim was. That a Sygna Suit could protect her from being flung up and that so fast was a wild concept to think about. What would it even hypothetically look like, both as an outside observer, and to the one who was a passenger on the droning wing? That would be an adventure for another day, when she was feeling better. Their dirty deed done, the two would return to Ranger HQ to deliver their report -- and get into some much needed air conditioning.
