Yumi had not gone clubbing in a long, long time, not since her university years in Galar. Some of the nightclubs in Hoenn did not suit her taste — Walpurgisnacht in Mossdeep came to mind, as she recalled the time she'd visited with her boss — but a few in Slateport City's lower district seemed more than promising.[break][break]

And naturally, Yumi knew better than to go alone. Her bodyguard wasn't going to enjoy dancing, so she needed to bring a friend who could ensure creeps didn't approach. And who better to hang out with and beat up creeps on her behalf than parker jones?[break][break]

After two cocktails and an hour of dancing to electronic remixes of the latest pop hits, Yumi found herself wanting a break from the sweat and grind. However, Parker was nowhere in sight. Where'd the redhead go?[break][break]

Frowning, Yumi disentangled herself from the crowd and headed for the bar that had stools for sitting. Reaching into her clutch purse, she reassured herself with the familiar feel of the minimized Pokéball that contained her Tsareena. Then she pulled out a 20 PD bill and slid it to the bartender.[break][break]

"Whatever's fun for this much," she ordered. "Keep the change." Then she surveyed the dance floor again, looking for Parker.

her best shirt's the nice silk red one. long-sleeve. hidden buttons in the middle with a v-neck curve that brings out her bust. hugs her in all the right ways, especially when she tucks it into her black dress pants. black belt. combat boots 'cause she doesn't have dressier.

yumi doesn't have to worry 'bout a damn thing because parker would rather die than let anything happen to her on her watch. it's why she has been watching her all night, steel grey eyes sliding up and down her form and thanking arceus for that pretty little number she's wearing.

she's a couple of pina coladas in. the sugar would have made a lesser drunk sick, but her blood's used to the sweetness 'cause she's already smacking her lips together for more. she turns her hips, raises her arms, and lets the music slide over her body, gaze darting to yumi at the bar.

keeping tabs on her, hoping she's watching.

Finally, Yumi spotted Parker still on the dance floor. Slipping from her stool, she stumbled through the crowd to reach the other woman.[break][break]

"Parker!" Yumi shouted over the boom of music. "Come drink with me!"[break][break]

Then she promptly turned and tried to make her way back to the bar. It took longer than usual; a small group of drunk college kids had made a little circle for themselves and wouldn't budge, so Yumi had to go the long way around them.[break][break]

By the time she returned to the bar, her drink was ready. The bartender was kind enough to hand it directly to her. Yumi tossed the man a sickly sweet smile before sipping on the straw. Then she turned to her friend, grinning.[break][break]

"Are ya having fun?" she asked, her words slurring a little from the alcohol already coursing through her veins.

looks like her mating dance is working. her sideswept hair is a little less sideswept and more stuck to her forehead from her sweat, but that's fixed with a run of her fingers and a simpering grin as she tails yumi back to the bar.

"don't gotta ask me twice," she says. though she is far more coherent sounding than yumi, she's definitely feeling giggly. and also handsy. but the handsy she gets under control. kind of.

when yumi asks if she's having fun, parker sways, leans in on it, and places a hand on her shoulder, giving her a squeeze. she takes a sip from her own fancy new drink (it's literally just fruit juice and vodka) and bobs her head up and down.

"mmmm, when'm i gonna see your moves though?" she asks, eyes glimmering.

Yumi had spent enough time with Parker to know the other woman was already tipsy, though Yumi herself was no better. She giggled at Parker's question, aware of the innuendo but in no place to entertain it.[break][break]

"You've been seeing them," Yumi quipped back with a grin.[break][break]

Because unfortunately for Parker, someone else had piqued Yumi's curiosity that night: another clubgoer dressed more nicely than the others, a whiff of cologne offsetting the smell of sweat.[break][break]

Though he was still on the dance floor, he was close enough that Yumi could pick him out of the crowd. She did not know his name; he was a stranger, met by chance while dancing to the music, but the physical chemistry had been instant and electrifying.[break][break]

"Parker," Yumi said, leaning in, "I'm prolly gonna leave soon. You can get home by yourself okay?" It was a serious question of concern for a friend, worded oddly thanks to the alcohol.

so here's how parker's night was gonna go: get litty off her titty with the hot fox that's hella out of her league, but for some reason likes having her around. she's gonna dance and she's gonna work her magic and whatever happened a couple weeks ago, they're gonna repeat it. 'cause it was good and yumi must want what parker's puttin' down if she's doing -

oh. oh. her brows pinch. she doesn't understand. parker.exe has stopped working.

"what?" sure, sure, yumi's danced with some guy tonight, in the throes of their fun little gaggle. and maybe she'd been making moony-eyed stares, but parker got those too. right? why else would yumi ask her out tonight?

"don't quit on me, yums," she says with a razor-thin smile, looking a lot more deflated than she fuckin' wants to. she sucks the rest of her drink down and waves a clumsy hand at the bartender. "more, more!"

Yumi caught the confusion and disappointment as it flashed across Parker's face. The redhead was a walking billboard sign, an open book. In the past few weeks since they'd known each other, Yumi had watched Parker's attitude toward her transform from amusement to friendliness to downright simping.[break][break]

And while Yumi didn't mind simping — honestly, she usually ignored it, most of it coming from the comments basement-dwelling neckbeards posted to her social media — she didn't want it coming from Parker, of all people.[break][break]

"I'm not quitting," Yumi said, slower to finish off her drink. She didn't want to get wasted before making it to that night's destination. "We can do this again. Just right now, I'm going to have a different kind of fun."[break][break]

She watched the bartender pour Parker another drink, wondering what sort of trouble her friend might get into after she left the club. Feeling somewhat responsible and hating it, Yumi took out her phone.[break][break]

"I'll call a taxi for you. Just promise me you won't do something stupid, but you'll go home right away."

yumi's right. she's not quitting on tonight. she's just quitting on parker. and it gets worse, immediately, because her waving makes another round of drinks appear but yumi's making it crystal clear she wants to give parker some money for pizza and stop bothering mommy while she goes and has fun.

"the hell you think i'm gonna do?" she says defensively. a glower paints the rest of her face in an ugly scowl and, to make matters worse, the candy yumi's been eye-fucking all night finally swoops in to make his move.

"ladies, ladies - how are we tonight? can i buy you a drink?"

parker, instantly jealous, does the stupid thing and wheels on him with a shit-eating grin, yumi's pretty parasol drink held out to her.

"nah, man. i got 'er."

Yumi reached out, but she did not grab the drink from Parker. Instead, she grabbed Parker's wrist, a gentle pressure. Annoyance cut through Yumi as she observed the grin on her friend's face. In the flash of the club's lights, she recognized a threatened dog baring fangs.[break][break]

She smothered the emotion with care. Despite the liquor she had imbibed, she would not let her distaste destroy the thin thread of friendship that bound her to Parker. Yumi liked Parker, after all.[break][break]

"Parker, stop." Yumi's voice was clear, her words enunciated. "I've made up my mind. And as your friend, I want to make sure you get home safely, too."

yumi, instead, denies her in every sense of the word. and worse, worse than that, is asshole mcgee seems to have caught on and is not even trying to hide his smug fucking face.

The ideal ending to Yumi's night evaporated as soon as Parker's punch connected with the man's face. Parker's strength bowled him over into several other clubbers. Shouts and insults flew, clashing with the music. Drinks spilled.[break][break]

Yumi changed her mind. Fuck being calm.[break][break]

"Parker!" she screeched, livid. "What the fuck is wrong with you?!"[break][break]

Her hand leaped to her clutch, groping at the zipper in case she needed her Tsareena. She instinctively glanced around the club's interior, looking for Hitoshi Inoue, not remembering until seconds later that he was not in the building. But her bodyguard was somewhere outside, she knew. She could reach him in minutes.[break][break]

"Fuck you and fuck your friend!" the man Yumi had been flirting with spat as he recovered. "Should've known you weren't worth my time, bitch!"[break][break]

"Eat shit, asshole!" Yumi snapped back automatically. She whirled upon Parker. "And you! Don't fucking follow me!"[break][break]

With that, Yumi turned on her heel and shoved her way out of the club.

what the fuck is wrong with her? blood sprays from where her fist had connected with his nose. he shoves his arm against his face and starts hurling insults at the two of them. when he calls yumi a bitch, her blood boils, but she's no knight in shining armor.

yumi's yelling at her and she's reaching for her purse and parker knows she's lost her. couldn't stand having her own night ruined; couldn't stand the loneliness. and now she's sucked yumi down with her too.

don't fucking follow me!

she flinches back and tries to gargle out some words, but yumi's back is to her and she's traipsing away and the bartender is calling security.

"i'm goin', i'm goin'," she snaps.

"yumi, wait! i'm sorry!"

The cold night breeze hit Yumi as soon as she stepped out of the club, but the chill was welcome. She breathed deeply, gulping in great lungfuls of air as if she'd just been freed from a suffocating cage. Her dark gaze swept over the street, looking for Hitoshi.[break][break]
