If there was one thing Berkeley straight up didn't understand, it was athletes. And mostly, sports. Sure, he supposed it was like battling, but he didn't very well like to battle. Not unless it was necessary. And even then, he typically lost himself too quickly when he battled and sometimes his Pokémon paid the price for his recklessness.

That wasn't the point. The point was, he was here, with Inari, running protection detail for the event. Mostly it was for the audience, but as the athlete's got further away and down their racing route, something exploded in the distance and caused quite the ruckus.

"Look at that," Berke noted the explosion and braced himself from the rumbling. Likely, it was a Pokeémon who was tired of being interrupted from their beauty sleep by the athletes. "We won't be bored to death the whole event after all."

Not that Berke would _wish_ for something to happen... but then again, he definitely enjoyed an exciting challenge every once in a while. He was already making his way toward the explosion as quickly as possible, dodging people by moving out of the main crowd and onto the outskirts of the route. Best short cut from point A to point B was a straight line, which he managed by climbing through the nature between them and the explosion.

The idea people used Mt. Pyre as a place for their silly competitions left a pit of discomfort in Inari's stomach. He'd read about the mountain upon moving to Hoenn and for people to be disrespecting the graves of the dead - well, it just wasn't right. He keeps this thought to himself.

When the explosion goes off, Inari cannot say he is surprised. This is what happens when people don't pay their respects. The ground rumbles under his feet and Tuli is already crouching down by the time Berkeley begins to move. Inari doesn't bother with walking on his own. He curls a hand into Tuli's fur and climbs on.

Tuli is more agile than him and people tend to make more of an effort of dodging a massive Arcanine than they do with dodging a person. When they arrive at the sight of the explosion, the pathway has almost completely crumbled, bits of it left clinging to the side of the mountain. Inari slides down but does not go farther than Tuli has taken him. Already, he can tell the ground is unsteady.

Once he arrives, after Tuli and Inari, he lets out a sigh that clearly reads he's a little bit... jealous? Yes, but a little pissed as well.

"You could have offered me a ride... I really need to get something I can ride." Berkeley notes before letting out a quick exhale of air, along with a high pitched whistle. "Well, unfortunately, people don't typically save themselves."

With that in mind, he tosses out his Espeon and gives a small wink her way. "Let's get our sensors out, hm? Locate somebody who's in danger. Whoever caused the explosion, for one thing--"

As her trainer drabbled on and on, the purple Eeveelution's eyes began glowing, and she used what little bit of Psychic energy she could to try and weed out through the rubble and mess of people anybody who was in distress. She gave a cry, starting to bounce from rock to rock before pawing at some of the rubble.

"Success!" Berke clapped his hands together, moving over to the rubble and beginning to move some of it out of his way. "If you want to focus on those below, feel free. We can take care of whatever's up here."

Inari's mouth opens, eyebrows disappearing under his bangs. The thought hadn't occured to him. He looks away and gives a thin shrug but can't offer any words. An apology maybe, but that seems pointless by now. Berkeley sets to work and Inari returns his attention to the fallen path, mapping out a way down within his head.

Before he descends, he calls out Rekku. Small and nimble, she's quick to dart down the rocks and locate the first victim of the incident. "Call if you need help. Put the injured over there - Tuli will bring anyone who isn't in critical condition down," Inari says before he follows after, taking care as he climbs down. Even if he does fall, Tuli will catch him.

The man seems, for the most part, uninjured. Perhaps a broken bone but Inari is able to help him stand and climb onto Tuli. The arcanine makes quick work of climbing back up to Berkeley.

The shrug had Berkeley chuckling to himself and shaking his head. "I'll remember this," he began as he started searching, finding the person that his Espeon had shown him. "One day, he'll need help. Somehow, in some way, I'll be able to offer it. And when he asks, I will simply shrug my damn shoulders and saunter off."

His babbling was something Espeon was used to. She simply listened, used Psychic to help him load the person up onto the Arcanine, then followed him and the Arcanine toward Inari.

"Found mine. What about-- oh, look found yours as well." Squinting, he glanced around and then pushed a hand up to his own forehead, using it to block the sun so he could get a better view. A rumbling not far from them, a bit closer to the sports track. "You know, if I had to guess, I'd say whatever got disrupted is now on its way down to repay the favor and disrupt the event."

Turning his attention toward Inari, he lifted a curious brow. "Bet?"

With a task at hand, Berkeley's voice becomes static noise in the background. Inari is barely aware of him talking and even less aware of what he says. He checks for more injured and, satisfied there's no one else caught in the explosion, clambers back up to the path.

At the top, Inari brushes his hands together, clearing dirt away from his gloves. "Bet?" he repeats, sparing the other man a glance. He snorts. "Idiot."

Turning to Tuli, Inari places a hand against his mane. He curls his fingers into it. "Take them to the start of the trail then find us."

Tuli grunts and turns before taking off. He's mindful of his pace, careful the two wounded on his back don't fall off. Inari makes his way towards the new noise, gesturing with a hand for Berkeley to follow.

THE FILM STUDIO lost control of their mechanical kaiju. it moves off their set, sparking and spewing flames in sporadic moments. unfortunately for the athletes, the robot has selected the racing course as the latest locale for their film. with a digitized roar, the creature ruins the marathon in favor of its own destructive script.[break][break]

Berkeley puffs his cheeks out at being called an idiot. "Just because I can make light of a serious situation doesn't make me an idiot." Yeah it did, but, shh. Berkeley's a dork.

The hand beckoning him to follow was obeyed, puffed cheeks still in play, grumbling to himself about how he probably should care and Inari is right. That's when Berkeley eyes what was angry and had been pissed off-- or rather, what had, apparently, gotten loose?

"...do you see the giant metal gozilla?" Berkeley asked, immediately deciding he didn't need an answer before tossing out Bronn and heading toward the giant metal beast. Multiple thoughts ran through his head, but one of the first? A picture needed taken. Why? Because who would believe him if he told them he ran into metal godzilla?!

While making his way down toward it and the people, his eeveelutions running past him, he turned around and got himself a selfie - peace sign included - with the giant metal Tyranitar in the background. Once finished, he turned around and ran - far more seriously - toward the threat. Already, Bronn was in Pursuit, distracting the giant robot for a moment while Breke's Espeon used Psychic to help move and protect the citizens that the metal beast seemed hellbent on attacking.

As they draw closer, Inari's footsteps begin to slow. He takes in the appearance of something. A pokemon? No, the movements are too erratic. It's not until Berkeley says metal godzilla does it even register that this thing is mechanical. Inari's mouth opens, closes, then opens again as he tries to say something. Finally, he comes up with something eloquent enough: "What the fuck?"

Coming back to his senses, Inari follows after Berkeley. He calls out his own pokemon and when Berkely stops, he slows to check on him. In the background of Berkeley's selfie, Inari's pretty face contorts.

He continues on without waiting, skidding to a stop. Tuli should be here soon. He throws commands out to both Rekku and Lumi, hands gesturing to where they should go. Lumi takes off after the robot, eyes gleaming as she prepares Future Sight.

Rekku, too small to be of any real threat, stops beside the Espeon and channels energy towards it in the form of Helping Hand.

Espeon's psychic attack was powered up by Rekku's helping hand, pushing the Tyranitar back and away from the civilians.

Berke arrived about then, sure to keep his distance so he wasn't caught in the crosshairs of the battle. "Bronn! Take most of the damage! Keep your distance, Espeon!"

Espeon did just that, keeping her distance and making sure to use her Quick Attack as an escape route rather than an offensive move. Bronn used his Quick Attack to cut in close, getting in the Tyranitar's view and taking up its attention, using Confuse Ray to try and give it different illusions and trying to confuse it. Though, it seemed only to become enraged, throwing out a Thunderbolt on Bronn.

"Stay tough! You've got this!" Berke encouraged his team before looking to Inari. "I'll bet you there's an off switch!" But... where?

Inari's capability with technology is limited at best. He can send a text, search the weather, and read the news but beyond that, he's useless. And faced with a very large mechanical robot, he is distinctly aware of how useless he really is. He looks at Berkeley, face pulled into a small grimace. An off switch? Like a light?

"Then find it?" he offers.

Something else is coming to them. From behind, Tuli dashes through, skidding to a stop in front of the pair of rangers. Inari breathes out a sigh of relief. Perhaps Tuli can match this thing's power.

So there it was. Berkeley would have to find the switch and take care of this thing, apparently. Well, that was just fine with him! He could manage that no problem! Probably... well, either way he could have his eeveelutions back him up well enough so he could get close and investigate for a switch.

"Well," Berkeley turned to Inari and gave a salute. "Godspeed on being the new distraction team!" He turned and whistled, running off toward the giant. The whistle that had been given alerted both of his eeveelutions to his movements. They left their posts and quickly followed after Berkeley. Espeon ended up there first, having the greater speed. She was able to help Berke up onto the machine, while Bronn made sure, tagging a bit behind, that the giant Robot didn't catch onto them getting on its back and beginning to climb.

"What does a giant robot Tyranitar's off switch look like, do you think?" He asked Espeon, who simply helped Berke by pulling pieces of metal back with her Psychic sot hat Berke had something to climb up.

This is not what Inari had intended but he supposes it's the natural order of things. Very well, then. The tyranitar continues to storm about but it becomes alert to something wrong. Before it can turn, Inari gives Tuli an order and the arcanine follows it without hesitation. Another order is called out to Rekku.

A loud yelp left Berkeley's mouth as the Mecha!Tyranitar stomped around and jostled him about. After a few moments of finding his courage, Berkeley makes his way up the back and toward the head. Along the way he's checked the metal beast for a hatch or an off switch, but with no luck. Even Espeon and Bronn are looking for the switch with him.

A bark from Bronn is what jars Berkeley out of his pessimism, he'd started to think he'd never find that switch.

"What'd you find?" Berkeley mumbles while making his way over, watching as the power meter he'd passed rose while the flame attack hit. "Fire powers it--"

Cupping a hand over his mouth and using the other for balance, Berkeley addresses Inari. "Hey! It's powered by fire!! Try to avoid any flame related moves!!"

Inari strains to hear and it takes him too many seconds to decipher what Berkeley has said. He looks at Tuli and grits his teeth. His pokemon are intended for rescue and rescue that is usually in snow filled mountains. There, Tuli's fire abilities are a welcome relief to the harsh cold and a means of staving off hypothermia. Here, they do little more than set things on fire.

He scrubs a hand over his jaw to think of a new plan.

"Tuli! Hold it in place!"

Tuli jumps back. Dying embers slip from his mouth as he takes stance. He rams back into the metal mechanism. The robot stutters and part of its head suddenly caves in from Lumi's Future Sight. It bears its weight back into Tuli. An eye flashes and Tuli is struck by Thunderbolt.

The Arcanine stumbles back, fur on edge.
