He didn’t understand how he could feel so fucking uncomfortably soaked and dry at the same time. His skin felt too tight, like it had shrunk, and his lips were overpoweringly salty, cracking and snapping with each flex of his mouth, stinging trickles of blood sluicing over his chin.

Eventually, the battle would move inland, and he would go, too. A fly crawling across lickwet carrion in the ruined, bloodied wound of this fight.

There's notice of clashes in the tunnels between league and rocket, as well as reports of HEATRAN. Paxton's support has brought him out of the war room and into the ocean, trying to help stem the flow of Rockets moving onto the mainland. [break][break]

It's harder to do when he's struggling to get his own people onto shore. They're doing their best, officers using water pokemon to shove their boa forward and push off other Rocket vessels. The water's red, and the sea is a choppy mess. Paxton does his part, the silencer barely keeping the sound of his shots down. [break][break]

"Boat captain at 3 o'clock downed, keep pushing." he announced before there's a sudden shove as the trainers get their pokemon to sprint past the Rocket ship, closing the distance to the shore. [break][break]

As they cut across water, he spots flyers and asks about them. When League forces confirm it's not friendly, he settles against the boat, aiming upwards as the boat steadies and takes a deep breath, before slowly pulling the trigger. Dingo watches on, the Durant watching to catch flying prey in its jaws, hungrily.

Ziadem’s talons are red from where she’d clawed through a League member’s face moments before, rendering them a mutilated, sobbing mess on the deck of a sinking ship. All in a day’s work, really; Onyx is numb to it.

But being numb to it means you have to go to a certain place. Spend too long in that place and everything becomes numb.

His raven cries out and pitches to the side, purple-black feathers bursting in a spray of red as a projectile punches through her wing. Blood splatters on Onyx’s right side, and then they’re falling. He calls out his Aerodactyl, drops from Zia onto Petra, and recalls the raven before she can come to any further harm.

He aims his dinosaur in the direction of the shot, catches the glint of a sight in the shattered light, and bears down on that little flash with agility and an open mouth of teeth.

Shot. She's going down. Paxton released the breath he'd been holding as he relaxed his trigger finger. He's about to aim another shot at the iron raven before the Rocket swiftly changed riding pokemon. No problem. He lets out his Dragapult to help intercept while he offered support. "Romeo, bring them down!" he ordered as the the dual type began to emit a strange light that bobbed and weaves towards Onyx and his pokemon. WILL-O-WISP attempts to set the Aerodactyl ablaze. [break][break]

As the fossil comes diving down Paxton stares up, rifle in his shoulder and takes aim once more. He's not afraid, or even rushed. His sweat is cold and he takes in a deep breath as he aims for the wings again and waits to pull the trigger amidst the screams of the crew around him. [break][break]

Dingo the Durant waits, ready bash IRON HEAD once they got close enough.

Onyx has never put much stock in the concept of guns in this world. Here he is, riding a flying dinosaur, while his opponent has just thrown out a ghost dragon that spits fire. Meanwhile, the coward decides to utilize a gun.

Like bringing a knife to a… well, you know.

The will-o-wisp has to punch through layers of sea fog and a light drizzle; by the time it touches Petra’s wings, it’s little more than a fizzle. She pushes through it without problem.

Another reason Onyx’s doesn’t like guns is because they’re predictable. You can only really do one thing with them.

He jumps up on Petra and takes a step, vaulting off her head to rise up and over. Petra, meanwhile, veers off to the side, and meets iron head with iron head.

Onyx hits the side of the ship, presses his weight forward, and slides down in a spray of paint, rust, and metal fragments. He draws up his boot to kick at the rifle in Paxton’s hands.

Ragon follows the Aerodactyle, swirling in the air as he gives chase to back up his partner. A defense DRAGON PULSE is emitted as he tries to get the fossil pokemon back off his partner. Dingo meanwhile is pushed back in the force of the diving pokemon, stumbling backwards form the match strength. [break][break]

He struggles to snap out of it only doing so after Ragon lets out a shriek. The Durant sets in motion, rushing forward with determination to try to catch the Aerodactyl before it took flight again and aiming stubby legs for a METAL CLAW. [break][break]

Paxton excepted something more violent, so he stayed trained on Petra. But when the rider jumps off... he sucks his teeth and braces for a painful fight. Thankfully, his team can keep the pokemon off him. But the Rocket riding her isn't probably any better. He kicks the rifle with combined force that pulls a gasp from him as he rushed to stand and brace against it. [break][break]

A quick swipe of the thumb engages the safety before tries to jam the butt of the rifle forward in a vain attempt to keep Onyx from pushing him back anymore than he'd already stumbled.

The dragon pulse has the unfortunate effect of blasting into the side of the ship where Petra, Paxton, Onyx, and Paxton’s Durant are lodged. The force waves knock Onyx to the side, boots sliding on fragmenting paint and rusting metal.

Petra’s wings flap as she is flung to the side, one clawed dactylopatagium digging into the soft metal of the ship’s outside. The Durant’s metal claw scratch at her underside but find little give in her stone-hard exterior. Cold fractals of frozen energy gather between her teeth as she flings herself forward head first to try and snap at the Durant with ice fang.

Paxton aims the butt of the rifle at Onyx and, since he’s been knocked off balance by the dragon pulse, he can do little but cross his arm at the shoulder and take the blow on the meat of his tricep instead of his chin or clavicle. Leaning into it, he ducks his head and charges, aiming to slam his shoulder into Paxton’s chest or gut and tackle him to the ground.

As the Aerodactyle moves in with ICE FANG the bite lands, and while the Durant shivers, he doesn't freeze up. Ice forms on his body and he tries to shake the fossil off before popping up with an IRON HEAD aimed at her teeth. [break][break]

Paxton meanwhile tries to keep his balance, compensating for the sudden shaky deck. He gets a hit in but it takes him longer to recover, as he feet stomp down trying to stabilize him. But that's all the Rocket needed before he comes running. [break][break]

This time, the rifle as a faux shield isn't enough. Onyx practically football tackles him and the sharp sound of his boot heels skidding against the deck screeches outward. The rifle bounces out of his hands and over his head, tumbling just out of reach. [break][break]

Paxton meanwhile, is wheezing, taking shallow, quick breathes from the air that was knocked out of him. Immediately, his hands are reaching to yank his arms over his head while shoving his leg into his chest to try to flip the man over.

The Durant’s thrashing head hits the top of Petra’s mouth, shattering the ice crystalizing in her teeth and sending her reeling. She drops the bug and falls back, wings beginning to beat on instinct, but too dazed to take to the air, instead managing to throw her 140 pound body thrashing and flailing into the side of the sip.

Onyx is moderately more successful, managing to take Paxton to the ground. The sound of the rifle skittering away brings a maniacal grin to his face.

“That’s the problem with coward and guns,” he says, reeling back to deliver a punch to Paxton’s face-- he preps for the knee to the stomach by coming up on his toes, arching over the joint-- and has more to say--

--but then Petra’s wing hits him in the face, snapping his head up painfully. A spray of blood trickles from split lips as he tumbles back, momentarily stunned and falling semi-limp to the deck. It’s only his honed reflexes and experience with blows to the head that keeps him conscious and stops him from falling into the water.

He palms for a Pokeball with one hand as the world spins around him in painful tesselations, throwing forward a Tentacool in Paxton’s direction; the octopod lashes tentacles at Paxton’s face, screeching in rage.

Paxton struggles with Onyx on top of him, doing his best to try to prepare for his attack. He absolutely does not expect the Rocket to get smacked aside by their own pokemon. He sits up, following the trajectory before watching the TENTACOOL materialize. He barely has time to scatter when it SCREECHES so loud he's forced down on his knees and holding his head. "FUCK!" he screams as his ears ring. He can barely hear himself over it. [break][break]

Dingo doens't fare much better, getting vaulted off the ship when Petra slams into it. The durant sinks down into the water while Paxton is occupied. Even his Dragapult can't save it, too busy swirling anxious over the ship before dropping down to try to protect him from the water type with a barrage of DRAGON DARTS.

Onyx is still reeling from being smacked in the face by his own pterodactyl. His vision is still slightly blurry, but judging by the loud expletive, his rather spur-of-the-moment plan worked out.

Eventually he’ll look back on these encounters and think, I really need to get a strategy that’s more complex than throwing shit at people. Eventually.

Polycinth aims to grapple Paxton but is pierced through with many dragon darts. Blue-tinged ooze escapes his punctured bell, spilling over Paxton and making him sticky with jellyfish blood as the Tentacool deflates with a popped-balloon noise and slithers wetly to the lip of the ship.

Petra has, by now, managed to get ahold of her fucking self. She launches into the air, arching up over Paxton, snags Onyx by his shoulders, and hauls him up off the ship, throwing him and sliding underneath him in a fluid motion. He lands hard on her back with a grunt.
