The girl raced off, and Gunner followed. Sirens blared all around him. A city-wide announcement tried to organize an evacuation in a calm, steady voice, attempting to drown out all other sound. The contrast with the simulated reality would have been hilarious if the situation wasn't so dire. [break][break]

Unfortunately, they did not reach the docks before the power cut out. Gunner stared into the darkness, every muscle tense with apprehension and fear. In his veins was pure adrenaline. [break][break]

Out of the hazy gray of twilight, numerous black shapes leaped for them. Both human and Pokémon, they attacked. Gunner saw his assailant a split-second before something clocked him across the temple. He staggered backward, lost his balance, and fell to the ground. [break][break]

Near him, his Zoroark and Iron Valiant cried out from multiple blows. They were outnumbered, Gunner realized as he struggled to rise. Heavy boots kicked him in the stomach and ribs. [break][break]

In the growing night, electricity sparked in a Luxray's jaws.
