THE ULTRA PLANT IS A DARK WORLD that is wracked by frequent thunderstorms. Lightning spears the desolate canyons and valleys of this world and massive cord-like structures bridge the gaps. Whenever lightning strikes, lights attached to these cords light up too. In the horizon, large Xurkitree can be seen, dwarfing the area you arrive in...[break][break]

Several abandoned power stations can be found throughout the area, but they seem to be deactivated...

With Josh completely healed from his injuries, he was ready to put the pedal to the metal. He was in his favorite domain, the lightning-filled Ultra Plant, in the most wide open flats the alien world had to offer. Countless strikes lit up the sky, the realm's many Xurkitree reflecting the bolts of plasma back into the cloud-filled sky. A lightning storm's energy surged through Raikiri, the muscles in all four of his limbs bulging and surging. The Gym Leader's hair stood on end, his helmet's visor in position as he firmly grasped Raikiri's reins. Josh's other electric steeds were equally charged.

Forget Extreme Speed; Raikou would need a Z-Move to keep up with the Zeraora in an environment like this.

"Great to see you, Remiel," Josh chirped with excitement, a deafening thunderbolt interrupting his greeting. "I hope you're ready to go fast, because electric Pokémon don't get any faster than they are here." He leaned low on the Zeraora's back, his skin tingling in anticipation of perhaps going even faster than he did the day he rode kyle lopez 's Raikou last year. The Manectric, Shiny Luxray, Zebstrika, and Raichu, also wearing riding gear big enough to each seat a human, looked ready to race.

As memorable as that was, Raikiri might eclipse even that breakneck pace today.

Though typically in a far more cheerful mood, especially with the optimism that being around Josh Devlin brings, the gym leader finds Remiel Calcifet in a rather serious mood at the start of this expedition. This was his second visit to ULTRA PLANT after coming here with PENELOPE LIVY a few weeks ago. But something felt different about the energy in the air this time...[break][break]

And he knew it wasn't just Josh or the small squad of Electric-type Pokémon he'd brought along.[break][break]

Without an introduction or a heads-up, the avatar reaches to his belt for a black ball before casting it down at his feet. In a flash of electrifying light, Remiel seamlessly transitions from standing on the ground to the shoulder of the black dragon that spawns there. Whatever Remiel feels, ZEKROM feels in an instant. It's apparent in how its plasma blue eyes narrow and shift from side to side.[break][break]

Relieved, at least, to know he wasn't the only one feeling a strange charge, the Galarian looks down at Josh and nods. "We can use the LOW-HANGING CLOUDS as we advance. Wouldn't want to attract the attention of one of them." He adds, casting a pointed nod towards a wandering GIANT XURXITREE in the distance.[break][break]

"Lead the way and we'll cover your flank."

The lightning storm before them was intense and practically ground-level. In the blink of an eye, the Avatar warped to his Patron's shoulder. He knew Zekrom was a rare Pokémon, but just what was it? The wave of Infinity Energy radiating from it was of a similar intensity to his Sygna Suit. Perhaps even greater. There was truly something special about it. Something he could not quite put his finger on.

There were no pleasantries. It seemed that Remiel Calcifet , like Josh, was a man on a mission. The cloud cover was exceptionally low. Ground-level, even. Being that close to the source of a lightning storm would be incredibly dangerous without the right Pokémon.

"Certainly not," Josh nodded in agreement. "I know your Zekrom is fast, but these storms are special. I don't know if it's my suit or my Pokémon, but my electric Pokémon can go faster when a thunderstorm is near. The stronger the storm, the faster they get." Raikiri was already one of the fastest electric Pokémon around. On the inside of the most intense storm he had ever seen, the effect could be magnified to the point where it made even the Master of Faster's nose bleed. "All I can say is if that's your plan, better buckle up."

Josh's Pokémon accelerated toward the cloud, the Manectric's LIGHTNING ROD ready to absorb any stray strikes heade their way. The moment they touched the cloud's boundaries, all of them shot forward with extraordinary speed, like being launched out of the barrel of a firearm. The resulting whiplash left Josh dazed, only his highly-refined riding posture keeping him from painfully arching backward from the acceleration force.

Even for him, it was painful.

The wake of displaced air was powerful enough to lift small pieces of debris around them into the air, including several yellow Z-CRYSTALS. With his active Sygna Suit, Josh could not extract their energy, and it may have been best for his health.

Escape velocity would be something even his suit would not let him survive.

The thunderstorm ahead was intimidating, no doubt, but their Electric-type Pokémon hardly had anything to worry about. Zekrom felt at home in a thundercloud, to be frank. The only ones they had to worry about were themselves.[break][break]

"Pairing yourself with your MANECTRIC should work just fine," Remiel nods, readying himself for departure atop Zekrom's back. "We don't stop until we reach the other side of this storm.[break][break]

Right— let's go!"

With a thunderous roar and a powerful green glow, Zekrom's tail revs up as they blast forward behind Josh and enter the dark clouds. Keeping up with his ZERAORA was a struggle, to say the least. Josh's Pokémon had been specifically trained to embody the SPEED that he was known for. Zekrom, on the other hand, was fairly fast for a dragon his size but much more of a powerhouse.[break][break]

Regardless of the speed with which they traveled, however, the storm seemed to intensify in response to their continued presence. Vicious lightning bolts strike here and there, increasing in power and frequency and threatening to crumble the very earth Josh traveled upon. "We're not going to make it unless we go faster! Are you ready for a boost?!" Remiel calls out over the thunderous cacophony.[break][break]

Spawning a small LIGHTNING STILETTO in one hand, and gripping Zekrom's protruding plate with the other, he readies himself for a cast. "I'm aiming for your riding gear! Try to hold still!"[break][break]

remiel can summon LIGHTNING BOLTS in his hands that he can then hurl or wield for ELECTRIC-TYPE damage. he is able to throw these to a target location like a WAR FLAG OR STANDARD. should it hit a surface that is not a person or pokemon, the bolt will remain there until dismissed and will emanate a small ELECTRIC FIELD.[break][break]

within that field, remiel, his pokemon, and his chosen allies gain INCREASED SPEED due to its diminished effects of gravity; designated enemies will accrue residual ELECTRIC DAMAGE.

Upon throwing this stiletto, it embeds itself into Josh's riding gear with a little help from his Manectric's LIGHTNING ROD. A harmless (at least to them) ELECTRIC FIELD spawns around him and his Manectric afterward. "Go as fast as you can now! Gravity is on your side!"[break][break]

And, as Zekrom revs up to max to keep up, it takes notice of a floating ELECTRIUM Z-CRYSTAL ahead. In one fell swoop, the Black Yin SWALLOWS this z-crystal down, using its BOOST to blast him forward after the MASTER OF FASTER.[break][break]

Josh squeezed Raikiri's flanks, the Zeraora zooming forward so fast than even the Master of Faster screamed like he was on an out-of-control carnival ride. As the storm intensified, so did the mythical thundercat's nosebleed pace. It felt like the Pokémon was using Extreme Speed despite not knowing the move. His heart about stopped at Remiel Calcifet 's callout. Faster? The tornado-speed winds were already stretching his facial flesh against his skull.

As he felt the electric blade strike the back of Raikiri's cocoon, he felt another powerful jerk of acceleration stretch his harnessed body in an unnatural way. All of a sudden, everything went silent, the flesh of his cheeks thrust behind his ears. While it was not the speed Eva Morales once entertained the Master of Faster with, it sure felt like it. The sonic explosion his shockwave created would have scared off any nearby Ultra Beasts close by.

The running stroke the feline needed to maintain such a pace was almost as rapid as a large insect's wings beating just beneath the threshold of human hearing. Josh lost all feeling in his lower body from the hypersonic pace his partner ran at. He was no stranger to the grueling pace of a hypersonic gallop, thanks to the Z-Move he had pioneered. There was a big difference between his HYPERSONIC PLASMA CHARGE and what Zekrom let him experience:

This was sustained speed.

As the duo left the cloud, the intense speeds that came with being inside it left them, as well. The young Gym Leader's hearing and touch returned to him, wincing in pain as he could feel the tears in the skin covering and around his nose and cheeks. "So you are..." Josh managed between breaths, though he could not bring the words "an Avatar" to his lips.

They emerge from the clouds as little more than blurs. It's almost impossible to orient themselves in time to approach the new setting safely. ZEKROM pulls up just to avoid crashing into a nearby cliff draped with thick wires. Once they've slowed, however, the pair descend to regroup with Josh Devlin and his Pokémon.[break][break]

Frankly, Remiel is surprised his hair isn't standing on all of its ends after all that. Though he's not sure the same can be said for his gym leader companion. "An AVATAR, yes. I was granted these abilities by ZEKROM. Though I try not to advertise them too much, given the nature of our contention with TEAM ROCKET." He adds, combing his hair back with a hand.[break][break]

Taking a look around, the royal sees little more than clifftops and bundles of wire everywhere. Within moments, however, he spots something poking out from behind one of these cliffs: what looked like the tip of a SPACECRAFT pointing upwards. "Shall we go investigate that?" Remiel suggests, nodding towards the aforementioned sight.[break][break]

With a slight ascent from ZEKROM, he can tell it's part of some sort of larger station.[break][break]

Josh's hair was standing on end after such an experience. It was an experience he was happy to get, but was it ever stressful on his body. "Brings back a lot of awesome memories, Remiel. The day I got to EXTREME SPEED across Hoenn on Raikou, thanks to Kyle, is a day I'll never forget."

Remiel's revelation explained everything. About why he got that same experience. It was divine speed. Speed granted by a god, much like Raikou. "So Zekrom, too, is a god... I had no idea. I've learned so many things about other regions' gods since coming to Hoenn." He looked stunned to be in the presence of the green-tailed electric dragon. "That's fair. I don't blame you for being covert about it. What's it like being an Avatar?"

As the duo rode onward, Josh felt more comfortable expressing his inner desires to the Galarian royal. "I...it's a desire I'd had for years. Despite the immense danger it puts you in. Ever since I was a child, I had a dream to be Raikou's friend. The Johtonian god of speed. How familiar are you with him?" he asked, nodding and pointing toward the spacecraft. Without being able to fly, Raikiri had to find large enough and stable enough ledges to ascend a nearby cliff. It was one rough ride, but the two had made it. Well after Zekrom and Remiel did.

"That's the one," Josh nodded as the Megalopolan vessel loomed ahead. "I've admired him since before I was old enough to become a trainer. I still love him. I have an entire shelf full of memorabilia of him. Stuffies, figures... even one copy of every Raikou card ever produced from the official card game. I love everything about him, but especially his speed." An obsession cured by the reality of him ruining a child's life over a Pokémon he had never seen in the flesh. Not a true one, anyway; Kyle's didn't count in the same way. Though it gave him the same feeling, he longed to have that feeling at his fingertips.

"Had you asked me that about a year ago, I would have said, 'Yes, more than anything in the world.' Now I'm not so sure. I still want to be his friend, but..." He trailed off. What he wanted to get off his chest could get not only himself in trouble, but the League as a whole. The Eris story had been covered up for nearly an entire year. Were the identity of her attempted murderer to become public, the League might not recover. "Remiel, I trust you. This is really difficult for me to say, but... can you make sure what I'm about to tell you remains between the two of us?" he asked.

Remiel, too, shared a great passion for legendary Pokémon. When he was much younger, particularly when his nanny had been there to read him the bedtime stories, he'd collected all manner of memorabilia himself. As he grew older, however, the prince used this passion to spur on his career. He'd developed a great respect for the stories, the history, and the Pokémon themselves.[break][break]

So much so that, admittedly, Josh's current iteration of idealization almost seemed naive to him.

"Thank you," Josh replied, taking several deep breaths. "So the whole thing started around my 24th birthday. Not this year, but last year. One of my best buddies, kyle lopez , gave me a birthday present I will never forget. He let me not only ride on, but control, his Raikou. I know it's not the real Raikou, but it felt every bit like one. The thick fur, the natural thundercloud saddle on his back, everything. I got to partially live my dream of riding on him, Extreme Speed and all. Then he told me about how Raikou 'died' in the war. I would later discover Raikou to be labeled as 'missing' rather than dead, which makes what I'm about to tell you even more sad."

It was Josh's biggest skeleton in the closet. Only League officials and a handful of very closely trusted friends knew. The worst part wasn't even the repercussions the League had thrown at him. Had he not made this horrible mistake, he would have been crowned a Champion by now.

"Remiel... I took that knowledge and I wanted revenge. I wanted to chase down anyone in Rocket with power and ties to the Kanto invasion. I wanted to know what happened to him. Come hell or high water, I wanted to be his friend at any cost. Does the name Eris Halla ring a bell?" he asked as the Megalopolan vessel was in sight. He slowed his Zeraora to a stop near its entrance and gestured toward the inside of the intact spacecraft.

Yes, he'd heard of the gift kyle lopez had offered Josh. He'd even known about the events surrounding the KANTO INVASION, though now the EX-ADMIN doubted he had the full picture. The mention of Eris Halla is a surprise, to say the least.[break][break]

"I have," He confirms, interest furrowing his brow slightly as he turns to look at his companion. Her history with both TEAM ROCKET and the LEAGUE was... problematic, to say the least. Remiel had done his best to look out for her in the past for Chu-e Choi and even now that they'd defected, but she seemed determined to find trouble anyway.[break][break]

Josh began to tremble, Raikiri purring amidst his trepidation. This was the first person outside the League's inner circle Josh was about to make aware of his horrible skeleton in the closet. It was a testament to how much the fridneship between he and the Galarian royal had blossomed.

"Remember the Mauville transfer where Eris got chased into the woods and got attacked?" the Gym Leader answered. "I... I was the one who attacked her. I was so naive. So desperate to find out the truth when I acted upon the information that Raikou had died in the war. I was the one that ruined her life forever. Irreparably," he began shedding tears.

It was the lowest point in the man's entire life, an enormous wart permanently on the skin of an otherwise immaculate body. It would be a wart he would live with for his entire life. Even after doing time and service for his actions, and even being stripped of his Gym for months, the consequences of which were incredibly dire, the haunting of Queen Zing triple-stinging that girl and her letting out a blood-curdling scream from the burning venom remained with him to this day.

"I got so desperate that I was looking for any lead to a Rocket that was familiar with the Kanto war. In the heat of the moment, it didn't even occur to me that she would be too young to understand it. If I could go back and change any one thing... Just one thing... it would be the way I treated her. Remiel, I almost killed her. King Zing is still rotting in a Pokémon pound because of it. That's..." Raikiri cuddled with Josh to try to cheer him up.

"That's... not the kind of person I want to be. I want to be a hero, not a zero," he answered, stumbling alongside Raikiri inside the vessel. Provided Remiel would follow him inside the spacecraft, he would start it up and begin exploring the skies above the desolate, electric landscape.
