For the moment, aside from the rumbling of the fire just in front of them, Yuina couldn't catch anything else that seemed amiss. Standing just beside Centos, the sword calibrated to the area again, digital eyes blinking as his blue energy took light. He was vigilant, Yuina trusted him to keep an eye on things.[break][break]
The fire was pressing, to make sure that it wasn't going to spread, until otherwise stated, was a priority, and as Doug drew out a Pokeball, so did Yuina. Daikenki emerged, another water type to help in the fray, while Doug's spindly Pokemon towered over them, one Yuina had never seen before.[break][break]
It didn't look like it was as friendly as Doug was treating it... But Yuina certainly couldn't judge at all, why would she? He was very fond of... whatever species it was, and the gleaming water bubble that surrounded its head proved that it would be helpful in their current circumstance.[break][break]
"Alright, I guess lets see what the damage really is," Yuina spoke, moving to start around the small thickett of trees to begin to assess the fire, but, something just behind Doug caught her eye, like something was moving... but not...[break][break]
From thin air, and nothing else, a small black figure suddenly appeared, a bright, wide white eye staring back at her from just behind Doug. The shock of it took Yuina by surprise first, she wasn't very used to things just appearing out of nowhere, but in the very moment that she could understand what it was...[break][break]
'Any Unown that you see with me are safe... Unown will show up that are working with the Drk Triad...'[break]
Yuina recalled Naomi Sato's warning to her... They were real...? And they were here...[break][break]
"No...," Yuina breathed, she was truly stricken, she wanted to turn to run, but no sooner had she taken a step backwards than did another Unown appear just behind her, and another, and another... It appeared, they were likely surrounded...

GC EXCURSION B

He only realized something was wrong when he saw the shock painted on Yuina's face.

But that was only him— Kumon's long, spindly limb shot out towards the strange, white haired man and his dangerous floating eyeball in an instant, attempting to skewer them where they stood.

The man proved surprisingly agile, however, dodging underneath the limb before leaping back and away from the spider's range, the unknown with him followning.

Doug didn't pay them much mind— not when there seemed to be a lot more of them to keep him and Yuina both busy, surrounding them on all sides...

"This is embarrassing." Doug muttered as he slid closer to Yuina, moving to cover her back. "Been a while since I've let myself get ambushed."

Perhaps he should have followed his own advice and focused on the damn job.

He hadn't noticed yet Yuina's alarm— though perhaps he would've have made much out of it even if he had. Teleporting ninjas were not exactly a common day occurrence, even in Hoenn— specially for non-avatars.

"Can I help ya with anythin', gentlemen? I don't believe I've business with yer bunch."

As the small group was encroached upon, surrounded, Centos' blue energy powered up immensely, but the sword made no move to attack... Not yet... The threat was different, unpredictable... No move could be made without creating a more dire situation. Daikenki did the same, though the Samurott hissed with open maw as he tried to remain as close to Yuina as he could, eyeing as many of the opposers as he could gauge.[break][break]
Having made her attempt at stepping back to run, the swiftness of Doug's Pokemon attacking a man that appeared just the same as the unown, Yuina turned and was faced with the couple of them that had appeared behind her, as Doug did too. They were back to back, Yuina flush against him, she needed something, anything to ground herself... The flashing memories from that Naganadel, the way Freya judged and accused her, it was all flooding her at coming face to face with who she now knew to be The DRK Triad.[break][break]
Doug was the first of them to speak, regarding the handful of dark clad figures and the Unown that hovered with each one.[break][break]
'No, your forces have already done plenty, attracting as many of you as there are to this place. It's been easy tracking work,' one spoke, in a way to say that they were almost pleased at how simple something like this made their job. One of the Unown blinked rapidly as it moved around the pair to survey them, as if drawing information of some kind.[break][break]
'Looks like we'll have to do things a bit differently here though. We actually need one of you alive,' another spoke as the unown returned to their side.

Doug didn't know which of them they needed alive.

But be it killing or kidnapping, both were unforgiveable.

Specially were Yuina was concerned.

"Yeah? Well." He said, raising a finger gun towards the speaker. "I've no orders to take any prisoners."

A blast of pink flew off the youth's hand, soaring straight into the ninja's chest.

doug can use tapu lele’s ability to spread magical healing scales for himself, others, and pokemon. Overexposure to these scales can temporarily OVERHEAL a target, applying the CURSE effect which deals increased damage over time.
Doug's Araquanid lunged suddenly, it's spindly legs shooting like spears towards the Unknown doing laps around them, trying to impale them right out of the air.

"We're fighting our way out!" Doug said to Yuina, his other hand sliding over to hers. "Avoid their Unknown's hidden power and take them out! These guys speak a big game, but that's all— they ain't much without their top brass."

Just like rocket.

Araquanid used Leech Life.

Terror began to set itself into Yuina's still figure as they stood there surrounded by opposition. It was one thing to know that they were out there, and they could be looking for her... It was another thing entirely to be faced with a piece of the organization, actually faced by the threat of it...[break]
And with their words... that they needed one of them alive, Yuina grew pale at just the thought... She knew which one of them they wanted alive... but the other half of the implication horrified her.[break][break]
In a bright blast of pink energy, the tension of the situation broke instantly, and chaos ensued. The Unown and their dark clad charges were teleporting in and out of their surroundings as Doug's Pokemon began to attack. Yuina felt him behind her, she heard him, and grasped his hand briefly. She wasn't going to let her fear consume her, she couldn't... Not when there was more than her own self at stake here.[break][break]
Both Centos and Daikenki lunged to action as soon as Doug's Pokemon did, meeting both Unown and humans in the fight. Centos' horns swung at a pair of Unown that were rushing towards him, and a human that came forward with a blade, but the Iron Sword's horns were a match that struck and knocked his assailant back.[break]
Daikenki too barked at the insurgence, unsheathing both of his seamitars, and while Yuina hesitated to let go of Doug for that brief moment, she did release his hand as she instead took up the seamitar that Daikenki threw in her direction. And just in time too as she was able to swipe away an Unown that came too close at Doug's warning.[break][break]
The battle was in full swing, their three Pokemon trying to get at the Unown and any of the humans that thought to engage with them, and the remainder of the dark clad figures were focused on both Doug and Yuina.[break]
Not an expert by any means, but having been relentlessly practicing, Yuina made headway in matching blow for blow with the seamitar she weilded to keep herself at blade's length from any of the figures that tried to get to her or Doug.[break][break]
'Kill the avatar, get him out of the way,' one of the discordant voices called, trying to set a focus for the group of assailants to maintain an upperhand in the confrontation.

His foot slid between one unfortunate ninja's legs, before his hand came like a guillotine, catching the man's jaw before the rest of the motion swung him to the hard ground violently.

Without looking down, the young soldier stomped the man's neck with his heel, his eyes fleeting back to Yuina to make sure she was well— damn, was that a sword?— before turning back to the danger around him.

There wasn't nearly as much hesitance in his movements now as when he fought rockets— even unknown grunts— he realized. Part of him wasn't quite treating these Drk Triads as 'people'.

Though looking back down, it didn't seem like it was enough for him to kill them without hesitation. Speaking of killing, though—

He dropped low to the ground as a blast of hidden power came, releasing a sharp whistle as his chest hit the unconscious ninja below him.

His Araquanid crouched low before leaping high, all 6 of its limbs coating themselves in flowing blades of water before it began jabbing violently around its trainer and Yuina, keeping Unown and ninja's alike at bay, however briefly.

Pushing to his knees with a single hand, his fist glowed against the grassy soil, before glowing pink scales came bursting out of the ground around them enmasse, attaching themselves to the Drk Triad agents— as well as Yuina and her pokemon.

One group could feel themselves be all but poisoned. The other would feel a soothing, healing touch.

"Killing me's above yer paygrade, lads. If anyone wants to run, now's the time."

Araquanid used Liquidation..
Doug used his healing/curse scales.

Doing everything she could to keep up with the pace of the fight, trying not to get dizzy at the startling speed in which both Unown and assailants popped in and out of view, Yuina worked with Doug in tandem to keep their small circle clear. They were defending themselves, and doing a fair job at it, and their Pokemon worked to cull the outer edges, especially working to get rid of the Unown.[break][break]
The fight was getting on quick, Yuina was working with the blade that she held, almost a perfect mirror to Daikenki who worked with the seamitar he held in kind. The dexterity she'd practiced, being able to hold fast, keep her wrists flexible, turning to keep her shoulders square to match the force of a blow, it wasn't perfect... But it was working.[break][break]
Only knowing that Doug was there next to her was all the focus she could offer, just knowing that he was still standing there beside her, but in the moment that she saw him sink from her line of sight in her periphery, panic began to set in.[break][break]
It all happened so quickly, Yuina turned, Doug was on the ground briefly, she felt the seamitar knocked from her hands as it clattered to the ground. The spindly bug spun with its legs to create a perimeter once more, for only a split second, and then the ground beneath Yuina burst into a shower of pink scales that clung to everything and everyone.[break][break]
There was a palpable pause, whatever Doug had done... Yuina's eyes glanced to one of the scales that glittered on her arm, but to the others that surrounded them, they almost looked pained... Surely they couldn't keep going now...[break][break]
'Fine, if you say so...,' the voice wavered, given the condition they had been put in...[break][break]
'Grab the girl!'

His jaw clamped together, pupils narrowing to dots as he pinned the men down with a furious glower.

Stupidest choice of words that could've been spoken then.

"Wrong choice."

A pink haze burst out from the young doctor, expanding to encompass the general terrain around them.

And as it did, all within it seemed to slow to a crawl.

All except for Doug himself. His hand moved sharply, snatching the gun on his shoulder holster and—

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang—

Bullets flew. Holes were punctured into thighs and femurs.

With a click, the handgun's magazine came off, landing on the ground beneath.

And so, as quickly as it had come, the pink haze receded back into Doug. Those formerly trappped within it regained their speed— whatever that was worth now.

"Let's try this again." The doctor said, pulling out a new catridge before sliding it into place. "Go. Before I lose my patience."

Doug used ~~Bullet time~~ Psychic Terrain.

doug can call upon a special PSYCHIC TERRAIN from himself at any time, without using a pokemon.
doug can exert his powers LOWERING THE SPEED of every pokemon (every living thing) within his PSYCHIC TERRAIN. this affects all pokemon except TAPU LELE and lasts as long as they remain in the terrain.

She heard the words... The instant fear of knowing that if one of them got a hold of her, and teleported away... Yuina was at a loss for anything. She'd been preparing, and training, and practicing for a lot of things... But none of this was ever something she would have fathomed, especially because no one yet was able to or will to tell her anything about who they were, what they were capable of... And what they could want with her...[break][break]
Yuina turned, stricken, she had to know, had to find which one of them was going to try to reach for her, could she grab onto Doug before it was too late? Or would he be brought too? Was that something that she was willing to do to him...? She couldn't have imagined that this was how she would encounter them, and that the threat would be made so clear... And all she could think to herself was how much she hated that Freya was right...[break][break]
...powerful people want to get to you... and they might use your friends to do it...[break][break]
No sooner had Yuina braced for the worst, she could only imagine that she was about to be grabbed by an assailant she wouldn't be able to see in time, it felt like she blinked, and then everyone around them was hunched on the ground, discordant groans and a pause that came at a warning Doug gave.[break][break]
Yuina remained stock still, her chest ached from the intensity of the tension, looking around and wondering what had happened... She heard something click in Doug's hand, he was holding a gun... But he hadn't moved...?[break]
Not one of the dark clad figures said anything more, but instead one by one the unown and their charges disappeared, until once more there was nothing left but them, and the sounds of the rumbling flames that had started to fade at the fire having consumed the majority of the base they were sent to find.

For a moment, he was slightly afraid that, somehow, they would insist on whatever they were doing.

Because he couldn't actually follow through on his implied threat. Anymore force than he had already exerted would mean just... killing them.

He would just have to take Yuina and run then.

But, fortunately— they dipped. No words, no ominous warnings, they just dipped right out of view, leaving the two of them to clean up the mess left in their wake.

A moment of silent passed before Doug finally released a relieved sigh, his hand slipping the gun back into its holster before he turned to Yuina.

There was a blazing fire raging in the background, but he paid it no heed, walking closer to Yuina before dropping on his bum in front of her.

There were a lot of questions in his mind then. What were the Drk Triad doing burning rocket bases? Why were they after Yuina? When did she learn to use a sword?

But there was a top priority.

"You okay?"

The stillness of everything was deafening, Daikenki and Centos both struggled to stand down, the two Pokemon fiercely concerned that it couldn't possibly be over just like that. Centos' hooves gouged into the ground, his horns glowing a fierce blue, the sword began to survey the area, looking for any sign of their opposers.[break][break]
Yuina released a trembling breath, she wanted to cough, she felt like she was being crushed by the weight of everything that had just happened. She barely noticed Doug moving, he sat back on the ground in front of her, a rightfully deserved moment of rest. And he asked just one question to start.[break][break]
Yuina moved slowly, hesitantly, to kneel on the ground, her knees in the grass as she sat back on her heels, but she couldn't meet his gaze, even if she was looking at him. Her eyes were haunted, distant, like she was waiting for another one of them to appear from nowhere, to take her away... To make good on their threat... She wasn't safe...[break][break]
"...d-do you... know who they are..." she asked after a quiet, still second, her hands trembled as she moved to clutch them together in her lap, trying to find anything to begin to ground herself.

Settled into the soft grass, barely able to move otherwise, Yuina could feel her darkness there, it was threatening to consume her. No amount of words that anyone could offer could ever take away the feeling that she must have been someone terrible before... her shadows were always there...[break][break]
She blinked, nearly flinching as Doug reached for her, his hand covering her own, but she didn't pull away.[break]
"...No... no one will tell me...," Yuina offered first, her eyes cast down, no matter who she interacted with after Freya's report to the league council, no one would tell her what the Drk Triad actually was... Freya said it was for her safety... But was it really?[break][break]
"...but one of them... is looking for me...," a whisper, a sharp crackling of wood in the mumbling fire behind them made her jump.[break]
"I don't know why though... I... I don't know... which of my lives she wants..."

For once, he was at a lack of words.

He had gathered that the Drk Triad had wanted something to do with Yuina, but... why?

Only now was he beginning to realize why Yuina might've been so curious— distrustful, even— of her own past. Of whom she might've been. For whatever reason, somehow, she was deeply involved with... this shadowy cabal that none would tell her anything about. But which everyone, be it league or rocket, stood against.

His hand squeezed hers gently as his jaw clenched, eyes fluttering shut as he took in a deep breath.

"Kumon. Go handle the fire." He ordered his water spider with a nod over his shoulder, before turning his gaze over to Yuina, eyes softening.

"Haaah... This fall to me, then."

Unfortunately for all the folk that had denied her answers until now, Doug was all too happy to provide them. Anything to ease her mind.

"Let me just start with... Don't assume the worst. Them looking for ya?" He said. "Don't mean a damn thing."

There could be dozens of reasons for that— it was not a statement on her former self's character.

"What do ya know so far?"

He had no plans of text-dumping on her after that mess. But— he needed to know where to start later. What myths to dispel, which to confirm... So much to go through.
