Around you, Poison Tera Crystals, minerals imbued with Dynamax Energy, and more exist for you to mine, harvest, and gather. However, more exists below each power spot. In fact, it is possible to leap into these power spots into dark labyrinthe caves below.[break][break]

Of course, Cillian could've simply ordered Howard to come down here with him, but that would've defeated the point. Power tasted best when sweetened by courtesy, and it let the admin pretend that his relationship with the underboss was built on more than sand. If Cillian tripped on a chunk of Dynite Ore and fell into the abyss, Howard would've stuck around to check how far he fell.

"We're mostly scouting out the area before I begin a mining operation in the area. Mauville will not threaten us. I know the Gym Leader. There's too many bad memories associated with this place for him to interrupt our operations."

Josh Devlin and his trauma regarding Rime was a staunch barrier. There was no greater defense in the world than one build on the emotional failings of the assailant.

"Follow my lead, I know the way. I found this place, after all." The admin prepared to leap towards the Power Spot. "Hup!"

You may encounter a paranoid Pierce Creighton, one of Hoenn's Scientists, exploring the caves too. Should you approach him, he does not let you come close. The keenest eye may scry blood splatter on his shoes. Despite his haggard appearance, he bestows supplies should you require them. Otherwise, encounter poor bystanders trapped here, like backpackers or even a feral Megalopolan.[break][break]

Howard would've preferred a corpse to Cillian, preferably the underboss's himself. Let his Lugia see that the corpses of Avatars floated just as well as those without.

Kill the future that Cillian represented, and Howard himself would be saved. History was a cycle, but Howard was aware. He could omit it entirely and avoid this fate. He could, because it was needed. Time was a samsara, and it was one he'd rather avoid.

Wishing Stars and Dynite Ore glittered around them. The admin's eye twitched and his fingers jerked, a response to his constant Dynegy exposure. Between Regice and these Power Spots, he was inhaling more than ever. He saw a face.

"Professor Creighton?" His voice was a whisper. When the admin blinked, his old mentor was gone. "..."

A dream.

"Josh is still alive." A statement. "Why?"

Cillian knew of Creighton, of course; it was hard to avoid his name in the scientific sphere. But he'd never had cause to run in the same circles as the famous Hoennian.[break][break]

A derisive scoff scrapes up the throat of the underboss.[break][break]

"Fucker's fast." That was kind of Josh Devlin's thing. "Wasn't worth the chase."[break][break]

And/or encounter a DYNAMAXED/GIGANTAMAXED POKEMON WITH A DYNAMAX SHIELD that must be downed. Regardless, the Pokemon will perish after its transformation. Investigating its carcass will reveal that it has somehow incorporated Dynite Ore onto its body. Though it is no Regi-titan, one may make macabre parallels.[break][break]

"My mentor." The admin admitted, loathe to open up about his personal life, though he supposed it didn't matter. Howard's personal life was easy to find. Connecting the two? Not so much. "When I was going through college, he taught a few lectures. Smartest man I know."

Know, or knew? Why was his ghost haunting this mechanical pit? Howard hadn't seen Creighton in a long time. Had the Tera Crystals leeched memories from Howard's mind to make them a person, or...?

No. Do not think. He could not think. Imagination was death when faced with Tera Crystals. Howard took a deep breath, feeling his eye twitch as Dynergy flowed around them. For a moment, his eye flickered a reddish purple.

"Try not to think about much, lest it bite us in the ass. Lets grab some samples and keep going."

It's spoken with a plain sincerity. The same man who'd taught Cillian much of what he knew on fossils and ancient life had been the one to expel him from the university's post-graduate program on 'ethical grounds'. But he'd been all too happy to accept the Quinn's hush money to keep it out of the press. A quiet exile, instead. Cillian had simply chosen to leave, to pursue his scientific goals elsewhere.[break][break]

Of course, dredging up those old, bad memories is hardly conducive to howard slayte's advice not to think.[break][break]

But, luckily for the both of them, Cillian was trained in Kanto's fires. Anything but blind obedience had been a danger to him, then, and so he shuts off his mind upon command with a disturbingly practiced ease.[break][break]

As they wandered back, Howard checked a map he had been scribbling on the blank side of an Applinbees receipt. He'd have to redraw another one later, but for now, this would suffice as a guide out of New Mauville.

"That so?" Howard finally spoke after intently focusing on his map. He expected nothing from Cillian's response, and yet he found himself disappointed with the bloodlust, as if he could ever understand the circumstance. "Our field is a bunch of carrion eaters. The only way to get anywhere is to fly."

It explained his hatred for the first Admin Fox. The prince had skipped all the work and had been groomed from success before he knew how to shit.

"Drop it here. We'll climb out of the Power Spot and get it later. I'll send a few of the boys in." More likely, he'd go himself. Despite his lack of raw charisma, Howard inspired a modicum of loyalty by asking nothing of someone that he wouldn't do himself. "Come. This will pay for a dozen fossil restoration machines, if I sell it right."
