Cassandra blinks as she looks around at futuristic lights, a city so vastly different from everything she knows in her day-to-day. But, given her father's disappearance, she is not a stranger to it entirely - it seems to be Megalopolis, the origin of their guards. However, the texts that she's read on it ... this is a thriving version of it, and ...

Is this a dream? At least here, she's not chained, and her clothes are not this prison garb either. Her hair still feels like a wet, air-drying mess, but at least it's not that bad.

"What the ..." she murmurs, looking around. "Huh," she says in surprise, then waves and approaches a familiar figure - Thea. "Hey, Thea! Are you... Thea?" This is a dream, after all. ... PROBABLY a dream. Are they dreaming together, or is this just a fragment of her imagination?

As soon as Thea came to her senses, the light feeling around her neck snapped her awake. Instinctively, she reached for her neck, noticing the lack of chains. Her eyes shifted back and forth quickly, trying to find Cass and Knight immediately. Instead, she found herself in a place she has never been before... And one that seemed to come out straight out of some futuristic fantasy. Thea's heart stopped for a moment, had she died?[break][break]

That was a rather Cyberpunk Heaven (or Hell), if that was the case.[break][break]

But the surprise faded away soon as her mind started putting the pieces together. Right, the Megalapolans. Thea frowned, pressing her fingers between her eyes and sighing. They brought them to somewhere else..?[break][break]

"Hm..?!" Thea perked up listening to the familiar voice, and with wide open eyes, she leaped on Cass, hugging her tightly. "Cass! Of course it is me." She said, leaning away and looking at Cass' eyes. "You are Cass too, right? Where are we? Where's Kay?"[break][break]

Cass lets out the longest sigh of relief as Thea confirms it's Thea - this could also just be her imagination, but she doesn't think about that too long or too deep - and returns the hug likewise. It's a soothing feeling, to not feel the chains for once, to wear clothes that aren't lowkey hideous. "I have- no real idea, but I think ... I think it's a variant of Megalopolis," she guesses. "I've read about it when ... you know."

Her dad disappeared through a wormhole, or something like that.

She's read about the regions called The Wilds, but she has never been to one. "I'm- I don't think they'd take the chains from us. I'm ... I'm not sure where we are, but it feels ... not too bad. Not like danger, at least."

She takes a look around the cityscape. "Should we- take a look around? See if we can find Kay, too."

Thea frowned her lips when Cass briefly referenced the incident. She reached for her friend's hand, taking it gently and comforting. "Alright, this means we aren't totally lost." If Cass knew even a hint of where they were, this would certainly make things less complicated.[break][break]

"People here are acting rather weird though. So let's try to... Not draw too much attention." Thea looked around, having a pang of worry in her chest as she reminded herself of her cousin. Where was he..? Was he even there with them?[break][break]

"Let's go..." Thea tugged Cass softly for her to follow.[break][break]

Cass immediately squeezes Thea's hand as it comes closer, a clear sign that she would definitely not let go any time soon and might be less brave on the inside than she tries to appear on the outside. She nods, looking around at the strange landscape. "It truly seems like a dream, but ... also not really." She looks around, keeping to Thea and herself, and maybe recognising even other inmates. "I wonder if this is a collective thing ..." In which case, Kay should be here somewhere ...

However, her eyes linger for a moment longer on a tower that is seemingly in the center of the city. "What do you think will be there? Maybe Kay went that way? It's the biggest landmark I can see right now." She also walks closer to one of the windows, but peering inside, there doesn't appear to be anything actually filling this facade.

"It's weird how lively and abandoned it is at the same time."

"Kay..." Thea muttered, frowning her lips. She didn't even want to think about what could be happening to Kay if he got himself into trouble all by himself. All that situation was a huge invitation for trouble, but at least this eerie and strange place felt more mysterious than it felt dangerous, especially compared to the hell they were living in those cells, forced to eat poison for every meal.[break][break]

"I get what you mean. It is like a liminal space... Or something like that." She wasn't really sure how to describe it, but it did feel like...[break][break]

"It is like it is too big and welcoming for the amount of 'no ones' that are around here." Thea said, slowing down her pace and looking at Cass.[break][break]

"Do you think this is the effect of the poison?" She frowned, taking a deep breath and looking deep into Cass' eyes. "What if this is another test from those freaks?"[break][break]

Cass nods in agreement with Thea's observations, and then shivers at her last speculation. "Gods, I really hope that's not the case," she mutters, shaking her head as if that would help with making the truth any less scary. "I'm not sure where this all might come from, but ... it doesn't feel hostile, I think." She looks around, and then moves one of her hand, flexing her fingers.

"It's actually kind of a nice space here, I think ... I don't feel as bad as when awake right now," she says cautiously. "Like a reprieve." But the future would need to let them see the actual extent of this little piece of freedom.

She takes a deep breath and nods, "Alright, let's go and see if Kay's around the tower, maybe." It also feels like there's something else there - like it might be something like the center, the origin of this entire dreamscape.

Thea kept her eyes on Cass. She couldn't help but feel like, while that place wasn't hostile, that strange calmness and emptiness after so much agitation and chaos felt extremely dangerous. Like a game, like some sadistic desire of making them feel everything was fine now, only to wake up to hell again.[break][break]

"Alright... Let's look for him." Thea nodded, following up with their search.[break][break]

Buildings and buildings passed as they wandered through the dreamscape, but it almost felt like they were walking in eternal circles. It was clear they were taking straight lines, but buildings almost felt like they were repeating. It was like an illusion of freedom. Yeah, there were no chains locking their necks and wrists here, but Thea was slowly feeling as restrained as she was back in that cell. Except without dealing with claustrophobia.[break][break]

Eventually, she closed her distance with Cass, embracing her arm with her own, bitterly whispering— "I am sorry I'm not being able to protect you."[break][break]

Cass is quite tempted to simply lean into the safe simplicity, trusting a reason that she can't further examine nor explain. It just feels like here, they can actually be free for this moment. A delusion she might be willing to pursue or else she'll distort. She smiles softly at Thea's apology, shaking her head.

"No, don't say that ... no one could've done anything. I'm fairly certain we weren't even together before we got put into that cell, and well. There's something foul afoot - something that's hard to fight just on our own." Her hands tremble as she speaks calmly, shaking fists at their helplessness. She hates that feeling, but for now, she has to accept it.

If she wants to see Jon and Martin and Sona and Del and Effie and Saude again, she has to bear this for the moment.

The buildings around them seem to partially shift and go with them, repeating as they go ... but Cass has the feeling that they close distance to the tower, or at least she can see it more clearly. In the middle of it, she believes ... "I think there's something in the tower," she says, "But it doesn't look like Kay."

Little does she know how fates might further intertwine in the future.
