Today was the day of the first gym challenge for the totem gym. Because of this, the people from the Crown, led by Olivia, and the citizens of the city were requested to stay far away from the Silver Spire. Why should they stay far away? Because the first challenger opted for the hardest challenge that Balder had designed: challenging the Shaman King. And for this challenge to correctly happen, they needed to make sure nobody would stumble on the fields as the ruthless battles and challenges were happening.[break][break]

An area for the crowd had been planned, and some pidgeottos and noctowls with cameras were flying over the castle to record the challenge and display it on special screens. Some cameras were also placed inside the Spire so that everyone can see what kind of fight awaited them if they ever took the decision to try their hand at the badge circuit. But right now, the attention of the crowd was sticking to one of their screens, as a man appeared upon it, sitting on a throne.[break][break]

A cape, made mostly of white cotton and black designs at the bottom, seemed to be the only thing to cover the man's body. Around his head was a multi-colored headband, harboring the sigils of the 4 tapus of Alola and some specific inscriptions. On his face, red markings to complete the look he was going for. The man cleared his throat, signaling he was going to speak.[break][break]

"Welcome, everyone, to the first battle to conquer the Totem tower and acquire the Totem Badge! What a better way to inaugurate this new gym then to have the hardest challenge be undertaken by one of the elite four? Today's challenger is Kyle Lopez, said to have conquered the many gyms held in this region! I wonder, will he be able to reach me and take my throne?"[break][break]

The display on the screens flickered, going from the "throne room" to show the front of the Silver Spire: a grass less land, covered with dirt and some rock plates that led to the castle's entrance. Some holes in the soil could be found here and there, as if someone had been digging haphazardly. Could this be the hidden mechanic of the first stage?[break]

crowds and the gym challenge's flashiness wasn't well received by the challenger. it was part of the reason why Stormy Silph 's gym did not appeal to him. he didn't like being watched while he does this. the compliments only made it worse.

he wonders if this was the real challenge of the gym.

his face contorts to an unpleasant expression as he takes note of every camera he could spot. beside him was one of his pokemon, who lifts his head up, tail wagging softly while his head curiously switch from one direction to another. his mightyena, at the very least, revels in the attention he seemingly gets.

the holes on the ground were taken note of, but kyle has his pokemon out for a reason. foxtrot knows his role. he's only been on one of kyle's gym challenges and he's ready to prove that he isn't anything less than his own compatriots. he is kyle's guardian to compliment the gym's own guardians.

casually walking through the field and towards the entrance, he gets his hands ready for a quick draw should the guardian appear out of nowhere. foxtrot is there as his first line of defense.

It seemed like the challenger was displeased with the attention he was getting. Somehow, Balder was not surprised about this. Kyle didn't seem like the kind of guy who would enjoy this kind of noise around him. But this was needed for now. Balder had to do it, to show the world how his Gym worked, that they can be interested in the methods of Alola.[break][break]

Back to the hole-filled land that the challenger stood on, nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. That is, until a pillar-like object emerged from the ground, close to the gate of the Silver Spire. A totem, arboring multiple fire and earth related colors upon it. The carvings upon it seemed to represent the life of a creature that feeds itself on itsects: The Anteater. The shape of an Anteater's face was shown at the highets point, it's tongue swirling around the rest of the totem.[break][break]

Following the emergence of the object, movement could be observed in some holes. Flames flashing through, as if something was trying to make it's way out. Soon after, a creature climbed out of one of the holes: a Heatmor. Not the regular kind too, for his skin seemed to be a deeper read and he seemed to be bigger then the norm. Maybe that was caused by the Totem enhancer?[break][break]

The creature's eyes settled upon the challenger and his pokemon. It was time to make his master proud. The Anteater stomped the ground before roaring, calling upon an ally in the vincinity. Still, without waiting for said Ally to arrive, the fire pokemon lashed out, using his signature move Fire Lash and extending his extremely long tongue covered in fire to try and attack the Mightyena.[break][break]

kyle stops, taking a step back when the heatmor emerges from the ground. its very presence brings the temperature to higher numbers, scorching heat emanating from its larger than normal stature.

the golisopod appears in tandem with the heatmor. he knows its typing, but he isn't quite sure what to expect from it. he should really take a moment to study a quick overview of the pokemon of alola some day.

"me first."

the mightyena enters a trance-like state as battle begins. flames formed onto its maw, forming a lasso-like inferno to counteract the opposing fire lash. they tangle onto each other, but the heatmor's overwhelming force manages to pull the mightyena towards it instead.

he recalls the dark-type back to its ball, releasing a milotic in its stead. first impression from the golisopod takes the milotic by surprise as soon as it switches in. as if it's exoskeleton doesn't slow it down, it appears right next to the water-type, slashing with its claws.

"stay! hypnosis."

the closed distance turns to the milotic's favor as bug-type falls under the water-type's spell. the eye contact, albeit brief, immediately gets the golisopod to sleep. it stands still. if it weren't for the lack of movement, kyle wouldn't have been able to tell if it's been asleep.

behind the milotic, the heatmor turns up the heat and releases a raging inferno from afar. it swallows the water-type whole, burns covering its body as the attack ended. it starts to glisten under the status condition, showing off its marvel scale to the spectators.

"recover." the milotic glows as its injuries start to heal in an instant. kyle points a finger at the heatmor, his hands forming the shape of a gun. as if firing it off, he releases the command. "brine."

the heatmor releases another fire lash to combat the torrent of water. "halt!" the milotic had already proceeded to release its move, but it stops nonetheless at its trainer's command. the flaming tongue wraps around the serpent, flames not doing much to the water-type's reinforced marvel scales.

"go."

taking the heatmor hostage by keeping its tongue at check, it starts its attack once more, firing a jet of brine towards the heatmor. the attack goes without stopping, extinguishing the flames the heatmor would produce until there's none. the move only becomes more effective as it injures the opposition, and eventually, the hearmor would fail.

he turns his attention to the pokemon beside it, still asleep throughout the fight. "milo, dragon breath." blue flames would spread from the milotic towards the sleeping golisopod, before kyle throws a pokeball at it. rules stated it was fine.

RUDELY AWAKENED BY THE DRAGON BREATH, the golisopod fidgets, appendages quickly rearranging themselves into nervous shapes. as the pokeball collides against the armor, the bug pokemon is sucked in. the pokeball bobs... fidgets, but breaks open.[break][break]

while the golisopod is more than able to fight, a nervous glance of the extinguished vigor of its partner causes him to EMERGENCY EXIT out of the battle.[break][break]

The crowd began to cheer as Kyle began to show why he had been accepted as one of the Elite Four. Such masterful display. This a shame that the Golisopod had escaped, however, using his ability to the fullest to exit the scene. Nonetheless, this was quite a show, and the public seemed to be pleased about it.[break][break]

To confirm the victory upon this first challenge, a lady approached Kyle and bowed before him. "Congratulaitons on your first victory, Mr. Lopez. Please, follow me. I will guide you towards the beginning of the second challenge." Standing bakc up, the alolan lady smiled to the challenger before heading towards the gate of the Silver Spire. From her approach, the doors opened by themselves, allowing Kyle, his team and the attendee to enter.[break][break]

As they entered the hall of the Silver Spire, lamps started to light up, guiding their path. Cameras had been placed inside as well, to show the crowd outside what the challenge entails. But at least, they couldn't be heard anymore, right? It was only the challenger the the alolan guide that accompanied him.[break][break]

Suddenly, the duo reached a wall, upon which 4 doors were placed. The four doors arbored the markings of one Tapu upon each of them: Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini. Four doors, four different paths. The attendee went to stand before the doors, opening her arms to present them. "To mark the beginning of the second challenge, we ask of you, challenger, to select one of these 4 doors. All of them leads to the top of the tower, they only determine the type of challenge you will face. Choose Wisely."

he wasn't sure what happened to the golisopod, but he'll take note of it for any future encounters. in the mean time, he orders his milotic to recover its injuries while they had the opportunity.

he spots a camera, eyes locking onto it. a scowl appears on his expression as he hears the people cheer. he wonders if he'll ever get used to the attention.

his milotic is recalled back to its ball as the attendant comes to him. he eases his expression, trying to smile back at her awkwardly. following her, he is led to the next challenge, gated by four doors he has to choose from.

"thanks," he tells her as he walks towards the door of his choice.

despite her warning, kyle makes his choice lightly. he chooses the door to tapu koko since it's yellow and it reminded him of the canary clamperls.

The door of Tapu Koko huh... The lady bowed to Kyle and returned to her position at the entrance of the spire. As the man touched the door, the designs of the alolan guardian lit up and a wicked laugh resonated through the hall. The door opened itself, granting passage to the challenger. Beyond the door, Kyle could see a serpentine tunnel, lit up by small yellow lamps on the sides. There was enough space for three individuals to walk side by side without bumping into each others.[break][break]

As the man would approach the end of the tunnel, he would notice a blinding light coming from the exit. Caused by the contrast between the lighting perhaps. Exitting the tunnel, he would find himself standing on... grass. A soft soil with high grass, wet as if it had been rained on but a few moments ago. An artificial river was flowing through the middle of the vast room and some small craters filled with water could be seen here and there amidst the tall grass.[break][break]

It was almost as if he had stepped back out. But a simple glance at the ceiling would show that this was not the case. You could see the system that served to make the rain and the light system and some more machinery. Plus, at the other end of the room, a door could be seen with another totem beside it. This time, the totem was made with a light color and looked smoother then the previous one. On it, you could see the story of a quadrupedal in the nature. A glance at the top of the totem would tell you what kind of creature was depicted: the Zebra.[break][break]

Suddenly, the sound of splashing could be heard, as if a creature had ran through a puddle. A spark of lighting rose over the tall grass, signaling the presence of a pokemon. But what kind? It seemed to be hiding from the human that he considered a predator to his domain... Or was Kyle actually a prey? Only time would tell. Still, the pokemon was being cautious, not revealing itself yet.

OOC: Beginning of the second challenge! No wild pokemons will appear this time. For this challenge, the post must contain about 300 words and will use the theme of nature and electricity (at least 5 bolded words from these two topics). Keep in mind that it is possible to avoid a battle, simply be creative about it![break][break]

tall grass. flowing rivers. sparks. he wasn't sure what kind of pokemon he'd expect, but given the themes, he takes out a pokemon that resists all three types associated with the setting.

his leafeon comes out, its poise lacking with its evident scrappy demeanor.

"mow the fields down. swords dance into leaf blade."

the leaf on the grass-type's head is brandished as it glows in a bright green color along with its tail. in takes a step forward, and with one clean slash, cuts down a large area of the field with its move. the grasses hiding the blitzle falls, revealing the electric-type frolicking within the vegetation.

the blitzle, having its cover blown, starts to charge at the leafeon. flames would surround the electric-type as it moved in with flame charge. it hits the leafeon, throwing it a distance away. kyle makes an executive decision to command a risky move to his pokemon. it was a calculated risk, but a risk nonetheless.

"start moving towards the water. sunny day."

chlorophyll kicks in as the sunlight intensifies, allowing the grass-type to eventually outpace the blitzle. "synthesis." injuries were healed as it ran, only allowing the leafeon to ignore the pains of the burns it sustained and pace itself better. it reaches the waters with a pounce, splashing at it. it turns to the blitzle as the leafeon anticipates the next move.

"nature power."

a blast of water comes gushing forth towards the flaming blitzle as nature power transforms into hydro pump, extinguishing the flames from the electric equine. sparks would replace the embers that surrounded it however, getting into a wild charge to take advantage of the water. the leafeon's ears perk up as he hears his trainer start to walk towards the other side while he utters the final command.

"last resort."

light envelops the leafeon as it meets the blitzle in the most straightforward manner. jumping at it, it clashes with the electric-induced tackle with its own charge. stars would form as the two meet and an explosion of energy would result from the collision of the two. the leafon stands as the survivor, having topped itself off with another synthesis.

Even with his best attempt, the Blitzle had been unable to best the Leafeon that Kyle had sent to chase him out. If anything, however, the small zebra could find solace that he might have given a hard time to the pokemon. Defeated, the pokemon could only lay on its side, waiting for someone to take him to the infirmary.[break][break]

Upon the Blitzle's defeat, the door at the end, where Kyle was heading, slid itself open, revealing the path forward. If he were to step out, he would find himself under an arched hallway, with openings to the side leading to fields of grass and flowers. In front of him, rocky stairs that were going upwards, circling around the tower as they rose up.[break][break]

A voice resonated in the speakers set around the location, as the man ventured forward. "Congratulations for your previous victories, challenger! You now have half the trip done before you can face me. A simple straight line. Climb the stairs, defeat the guardians, then we'll get to see if you have what it takes to claim the throne."[break][break]

As the broadcast ended, the screech of a gigantic bird resonated in the area. A totem appear from the soil besides the open hallway, depicting the image of a soaring eagle. The screech of the bird echoed again before an immense shadow flew over the hallway. One look in the sky would allow the challenger to see a Braviary, albeit much bigger then usual. As if answering the bird's call, another pokemon's roar happened, signaling the advance of another wild pokemon.

OOC: Beginning of the third challenge! For this challenge, the post must contain about 350 words and will use the theme of the sky (at least 5 bolded words from this topics). once both of the pokemon showed up from the clouds above, kyle releases his manectric. "we're standing our ground," he tells his pokemon, reaffirming their stance on how they'll approach the battle.

electric terrain quickly covers the land while the hydreigon appears to back up the braviary in the sky. the canine eyes the dragon-type more than the flying-type, finding it a much larger threat despite the braviary's size. it wasn't much more about its capabilities as it was the temperament of the dragon-type flying in the air.

"get ready."

a hyper voice comes from the hydreigon, hitting the manectric as it braces itself with charge. it is fazed for a moment, but it quickly shakes its head, waking it up from its daze. as soon as it recovers though, chaos starts to ensue.

dark clouds starts to form in the skies, threatening to start a dry thunderstorm. the braviary takes notice and finally swoops into the source, taking care of it before anything major would start. it could not reach the manectric fast enough, unfortunately, as kyle's pokemon start to generate electricity in its mane, static cackling around it.

a howl sounds, and so do the roar of thunder in the clouds.

"thunder."

lightning strikes from the skies. there's no strong winds or rains, but a thunderstorm brewed. the manectric stays on his spot, summoning thunder and letting multiple attacks hit the surrounding area in a destructive manner. the intensity of each bolt as it reaches the ground sends a strong enough impact that it sends shivers to kyle even if he was the one that asked for it.

electricity drops from above indiscriminately, striking the braviary and the hydreigon multiple times, the move hitting more accurately as they were in the clouds as opposed to the ground. multiple bolts hit the opposing pokemon relentlessly, leaving them no time to recover from the following attack. the braviary drops while the hydreigon remains conscious, it is heavily wounded and its body paralyzed.

the ground is scorched, smoke drifting in the air as the aftermath is showed to the audience. the manectric remains in the middle, exhausted from its display of power, while his trainer approaches the hydreigon. he tosses a pokeball at it, if only because he wanted a souvenir for this match and the earlier golisopod escaped him.

The two pokemons were brilliantly defeated by the elite four member Kyle. Using the sky to his advantage to have lightning strike repeatedly upon the two flying creatures, quite a wise plan. And now, he simply had to climb the stairs that led to the top of the massive tower. A spiralling stair, going around the tower from the exterior...[break][break]

Or is it? As Braviary's defeat was confirmed from one of the attendants in the area, a secret door opened at the bottom of the stairs, revealing... an elevator! An easy way to the top, without the challenge of climbing all the stairs. It would provide a small respite to the trainer as he made his way to the final challenge.[break][break]

No matter the way he had selected to reach the top, he would arrive in a room covered in darkness. It was extremely hard to see 2 meters in front of him. The only thing that could be seen in the distance was a massive gate with some small torches surrounding it, and the totem beside it. Barely lit, it seemed like the totem represented a sort of cat, but it was hard to confirm it.[break][break]

Yet, a loud purr seemed to confirm the idea of a cat. The purring was soon followed by a roar to summon another pokemon. For all we know, the creature hiding in the shadows was seeking to play games on the challenger, but what could the wild pokemon end up doing? This could end up being the most challenging moment for Kyle and his team before they end up fighting Balder, with the eternal blackness surrounding them stopping from seeing anything clearly.
