HEAVY RAIN beat upon the deck of the research vessel as it rode the whim and mercy of violent waves. Dressed in a sailing jacket and steel-toed boots with thermals underneath, Zev stood on the back deck amidst monitoring equipment. Even when he squinted, he could hardly see his prey on open waters. [break][break]

But he could hear it. Kyogre's cry thundered through the storm. Zev's grip tightened on the railing as the boat shuddered from the impact of another treacherous wave. [break][break]

A shout from the helmsman told him that they could approach no further. Turning briefly from the swelling sea, the general yelled for his associate. "Frost! We need to provoke it to attack!" [break][break]

The dorsal fin of Zev's Sharpedo cut through the nearby water, ready for commands.

Mint rides with his God General, grinning ear to ear. He'd made sure to rest up and prepare, ready to go to battle with something closer to his level. No more sims, no more solo. A real, formidable target. The rain that pelts does nothing to deter the budding avatar as he holds onto the railing next to his companion. Kyogre, deep as it ever was, in its primal insanity. [break][break]

"You got it, God General sir!" he shouted back as he put a small device in his ears and taking a step forward, unencumbered by the violent waves their ship was maneuvering through. He takes to the air, telekinetic energy lifting him up. Distantly, keeping watch is his own patron who offers its shriek of support ready to watch him play. An Arctovish floats at the ready near Zev's Sharpedo. [break][break]

"Sorbet, get in there aggressive." He ordered as the fossil pokemon rushed forward towards the cries of the primal whale preparing a FREEZE DRY on what she thought might be a tail fin in the waters. Mint takes to stormy skies, ready to follow Kyogre. As his Arctovish draws near, Mint floats on high, an array of feathers floating around him defensively as he sought his point of attack before suddenly they all drop towards the beast, intent on trying to carve out the legendary.

Mint took to the air. It was Zev's first time witnessing the Beast's Avatar powers, both the flight and the feathers. He tried tracking Mint's movement through the storm, but lost sight of the younger man thanks to the rain and turbulence. [break][break]

Focusing his attention on the great whale ahead of him, Zev watched as his Sharpedo closed in alongside Mint's Arctovish. Without warning, the shark leaped into the air with BOUNCE, intending to draw Kyogre's eye. [break][break]

In an identical earpiece, Zev said, "Try to have it aim its attack in this direction, without hitting the actual boat!" [break][break]

He wasn't going to take any chances, of course. To defend against that very real possibility, he released his Glalie. A precise hand signal prompted the Face Pokémon to PROTECT the ship with a defensive barrier.

"I'll stay high, boss!" he called back as the Kyogre let out an indignant screech as the attacks begin disturbing it from it's destruction across Hoenn's open seas. In immediate response, the beast seems to use AQUA TAIL to swat back the flies irritating it in the water. When Zev's Sharpedo BOUNCEs up, that only leaves Sorbet as it's target. The great whale sends Sorbet skipping back on the surface of the ocean before she disappeared into a rising wave that crashed down in Kyogre's wake. [break][break]

Deadly, yellow eyes lock on the Sharpedo and then eventually the Mercurial as he raises a hand and summons back the steel feathers, ripping bloody knives out of the shallow wounds made in it's thick fat. Angry, Kyogre begins creating glowing spots around it. Mint recognized it and felt his pulse quicken. Sorbet tries to catch up but she's been flung far. The fossil blasted seawater, freezing it and sending chunks flying forward. "Remember me you crazy bitch?" he asked. Doubtful, despite the many times Mint had come to antagonize the legend. He glances at the ice as the ORIGIN PULSE glows bright. [break][break]

Keeping up high, he swerves with the creature's attention in Zev's direction and gestures at the ice his pokemon had provided.

The ocean churned as violent attacks ripped through it. Ice, feathers, rogue waves—it was all a challenge to see through the pelting curtains of rain. But Zev recognized at once the pinpricks of light that presaged an ORIGIN PULSE. [break][break]

Movement in the sky directly ahead revealed Mint's positioning. Zev braced himself for the moment of truth, his skin itching beneath his many layers of clothing as crystals spread to cover him. They sprouted along his neck and head, dotting his face. [break][break]

Kyogre's tremendous beam of energy and light fired. It pierced the heavens, slicing through storm and sea alike. Zev reached for it with his will, the desire to consume now second nature. [break][break]

Instinct rang alarm bells in his head, and he instantly recoiled. The rest of his face disappeared beneath a carapace of crystal as fight gave way to flight.

THE HIGHEST REACHES OF HEAVEN

ZEV HARCOURT X MINT FROST

INSTINCT MUST SOON GIVE WAY TO EXPERIENCE. When Zev Harcourt attempts to absorb the rampaging leviathan's ORIGIN PULSE, only the incandescence can be stolen. Even still, countless beams this ancient attack travel too fast for all the light to be taken.

mint frost would recognize the imminent danger. Zev Harcourt would feel it. Primal Energy exists in its own unique space. It is a potent, unstoppable force married with unpredictability.

The Rockets must act quick before the ORIGIN PULSE overtakes them both.

Sorbet attempts to cast a PROTECT on her trainer but there's too many beams to fully reflect it. Especially in Kyogre's state. He sees the cracks in her shield once the first brilliant blue beam hits. The ice the Arctovish had created for him is picked up and thrown only to be blasted into chunks before it can even make it a quarter of the way there. [break][break]

He does the same, holding out a hand as bubble of a shield appears, psychic energy coalescing to begin to protect him. The first beam sends him back but the shield doesn't break and he grins. But the the barrage continued, raining down on him and Zev for their insolence. [break][break]

To think two demigods could ever measure up to the power of a god? [break][break]

Rain falls in sheets, and under dark clouds Kyogre's eyes glow like an omen as it lets out another roar. Mint holds fast feeling the pressure increase. But this was a contest of will, and he would push it to its limit if only to see how far he could go. His Arctovsih dives for cover a majority of the ORIGIN PULSE aimed high. [break][break]

Even as he indulged, he remembered the other thing he was here to test, and called out in the comms, "Zev?! Are you getting any of this?" he asked, pressing for a status update as he's shove back further. His head began to hurt form the strain. It's time to move. He lets a beam hit against his shield, letting Kyogre bounce him backwards just as he had his pokemon. Mint is slammed and skidded across the water's surface before he takes a harsh breath, bubbles up, and falls underneath. "Neon reporting, just catching my breath." he said before freezing as he spotted under dark water, the same foreboding yellow eyes.

As the ORIGIN PULSE careened overhead, Zev felt the slightest licks of warmth as their brilliance siphoned into him. But he could not pull upon the attack itself to stop it, for the energy that pulsed at its heart was too primal and too foreign. Incompatible. [break][break]

The protective barriers around the research vessel shimmered with the last beams of Kyogre's tremendous attack. Knowing they would not survive another direct hit, Zev shouted into his earpiece. [break][break]

"Negative, Frost! We need to leave now!" He recalled his Glalie and Sharpedo both, no longer needing them. Instead, he released his Tentacruel. "Can you teleport? If not, get your ass back on the boat!"

Soon enough, Kyogre blasted more of its signature move this time into the ocean, causing bigger waves and choppy waters. Mint returned Sorbet as he shot out of the water, Zev's message making him hurry. “On my way!” He replied, as the oceanic titan took a moment to recharge. Mint is already slowing to a halt, floating inches above the boat before he landed. [break][break]

“I can help deflect some beams!” he blurted as he lifted both hands in front of him before spreading his arms apart. A litany of screens manifesting between themselves and Kyogre. “These won't last long!” He added, sacrificing power for coverage.

As soon as Mint landed on the boat and raised defensive barriers, Zev turned to his Tentacruel. "Get us out of here!" he roared over the thunder of the storm and waves. [break][break]

The Jellyfish Pokémon obeyed at once, using SURF to manipulate the water to their advantage. Still, it was rough going, fighting against Kyogre's terrifying influence. Zev held on to the nearest object bolted to the ship's deck, gritting his teeth against the jostling ocean and freezing rain. [break][break]

Eventually, though, they cleared the storm. Kyogre's wrath became more and more distant. Zev relaxed his grip and stepped toward the railing, watching as the black clouds gave way to blue sky. Already, his brain was processing what just happened, as well as its ominous implications. [break][break]

"Did you get the data you needed?" Zev asked Mint, eyes still trained on the dark horizon.

He held on as Zev's Tentacruel blasts their ship forward, away form the Kyogre. The sea titan still rampages, roaring into the sky as their prey makes a getaway. The ocean protests but somehow they get through. Not without Mint watching a few of his psychic shield crack and break against a ruthless barrage of ORIGIN PULSEs. [break][break]

The ocean still churns, no matter how far they get having pissed off the guardian of the sea all over again. Mint leans against the side of the ship, sliding down to sit on the deck. When the ship stops bouncing as much, he looked up to Zev, blank expression before looking down at his machine and then clicking through. A thumbs up and a grin later and he's back on his feet. "Yeah, I got it." [break][break]

His eyes dipped back down to the screen, quickly scrolling through the numbers and little pixelated graphs. "How are you feeling? Energized?" he said, hoping the readings were wrong. But the dip is only slight.

Zev shook his head, suppressing a frustrated sigh. "No. I didn't manage to siphon even a little bit of its energy, which means Primal Energy is a whole different category than Infinity Energy or Dynergy." [break][break]

He gripped the railing hard, the whitened knuckles of his hand the only sign of his disappointment. Despite how Dynergy poisoned him, his ability to absorb it into himself gave him an edge over his enemies. But should he face Kyogre, Groudon, or Rayquaza in battle, their Primal Energy might prove a terrible inconvenience. [break][break]

"Let's head back to Sootopolis," Zev said at length, turning his back on the raging sea. A quick word to the steersman set the ship on course for headquarters. "We need to resume planning our assault." [break][break]

He spared a glance at Mint at last. [break][break]

"Do you have a good handle on your powers by this point?"
