[break][break] The Head Ranger's nose wrinkles as he holds up what appears to be a disgusting robot-arm that has some mysterious sludge sliding off of it. What did those scientists get up to?

[break][break] He and saskia volosenkova had been deployed to clear up the remaining debris and trash that surrounded the area after the first team had swept through and had cleared the air for safety. But there was still a lot that needed to be done before they could clear up this area and make it ready for sanctuary preservation.

it is a lot to clean up. and cleaning up is her least favorite part about pretty much any activity. do you know how many times kolya has had to yell at her after she's walked out of the kitchen, munching happily on a snack that had somehow ripped the entire room apart?

but it's necessary. and it's towards the end of her designated shift anyway.

dmitry and frogger have been accompanying her for most of these long hours so they're tucked neatly in their balls. in lieu of her water-affinity companions is oleg, who would only traipse through the water once sasky showed him that his little sharpie feeties she'd drawn on wouldn't come off.

they will undoubtedly smudge, but he'll be a good boy and let her put the beans back on.

saskia has the other one in hand when ollie pulls her attention to it and she crows ecstatically. "oleg was just making shadow puppets with it," she says animatedly and then blinks, coughing, going, "erm, i mean we were just setting it aside, head ranger, ollie, sir..."

[break][break] Perhaps he should be a little more professional, but it's the end of the shift and he's eager to spend time with a Ranger where he doesn't have to fill out piles and piles of paperwork, or scold them for crossing civilian boundaries.

[break][break] Behind him, his Blastoise and Togekiss were working together to create barricades around the more flooded areas, which would then allow the humans to navigate the current one more easily while they cleared out the rubble and debris from the environmental damage.

head ranger morales, she scolds herself. she still gets nervous around high-ranking authority. too much being told to snap to attention, to listen please, to get a handle on her pokemon, makes her extra tip-toey around the literal highest ranking ranger in charge.

and then he asks to see her shadow puppets and both oleg and saskia's eyes gleam like stars.

oleg tucks his little hands out and pink energy wraps around the discarded robot arm. most of the slime has already slunk out of it (much to his dismay and saskia's joy) so manipulating the fingers and the turning of its wrist doesn't make it splatter.

he makes little buneary, a lycanroc, even the shape of a swoobat, and saskia claps after each presentation.

Ollie wasn't a regular member of authority. Or at least, that's what he told himself to make the days go by easier. He didn't think he could be stiff-lipped in the same way that his predecessors were; it put too much pressure on the job, which in turn would make Ollie hate the work that he did. Which was the exact opposite of why he joined the Rangers in the first place.

[break][break] And Ollie's expression seems genuine, as if he really did think that such an act was that cool. Part of him thought that illeana reyes or Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki might not have been as impressed as he was, but hey - Ollie was neither of those people. He could appreciate cool things for what they were. Super cool.

[break][break] "I wish you could take that back with ya," he said, reaching for the mechanical arm once Oleg is done with it. "But maybe if we're lucky, I can convince Illie to let us take it out for show-and-tell one day."
