OPERATION #1 - DEEP SALVAGE
AIRI WATANABE & John Sullivan have been tasked with exploring the submerged areas of Sea Mauville to salvage valuable resources and artifacts.

"I keep telling them I ain't no good at these things." He sighed as he finished tying up his hair, staring at the diving equipment before him.

He had no proper training for these sorts of things, but that wouldn't stop him from examining his equipment. Maybe his untrained eye would be able to find some damage in it that would let him skip out on getting wet.

...

No luck there.

Everything looked up to standard. Just about enough high quality supplies for who knows how many trips into the depths.

"Phooey." He sighed, before turning around to look at his companion.

A ranger he didn't know— unsurprising. The rangers were their largest corps at these point.

"Ms. Watanabe, yeah?" He asks. "Ya ever indulged in some scuba diving before?"

Airi zipped up her diving suit before using her dainty hands to smooth out the fabric against her modelesque frame. The mocha-haired beauty turned her attention towards her partner, allowing her deep sapphire blue orbs to contact with his eyes for a few seconds. "If the League felt that you were inadequate to take on this mission, then they would have recommended you for this task. Have more faith in yourself," she told him, a warm and gentle smile curled against her soft lips. To be honest, this mission is a little outside of her comfort zone, too. However, she will push herself through it in order to better herself.

Airi then moved a little closer towards John, gently placing her right hand against his shoulder. "Inhale and exhale. You can do this!" She encouraged him. She gave his shoulder a quick pat before removing her hand and placing it back down to her side. Her brilliant azure eyes shifted towards the ocean as she found her minding starting to drift off a bit. She has no idea who or what will be waiting for them underneath the surface.

"Please, call me Airi." She told him. No need to be too proper with her. Besides, she understands that her last name can be a little bit of tongue twister for others. "Mhm. After being a ranger for a while you will gain a lot of experiencing doing a little bit of other thing," she responded to his previous question. She then withdrew one of her Poke Ball and released her Swampert. She glanced back over at John. "Stay close, watch your surroundings at all times, breath normally, and know your limits. If you start to feel too uneasy or if you need to resurface for whatever reason, give me a thumbs down or some sort of hand gesture," she encouraged them. She hopes that her tips will be helpful to him.

"We should get a move on. If you do not have a water-type of your own then feel more than free to hang on to Bean," she gave him another smile before taking a graceful dive off the boat and into the deep blue alongside her Swampert.

"Oh, I ain't lacking faith." He said, laughing. "I'm lacking training."

His partner seemed to have taken his bitching and whining as a show of reluctance... That was very kind of her. Most would've just told him to suck it up.

"Nice to meet'cha, Airi. Ya can call me John, then." He said, winking as he brushed off her gentle hand. "Don't worry 'bout lil ol' me, I ain't nervous. Juuust mostly unwilling."

He nodded, at her words nonetheless, releasing an Orbeetle out of its netball. The beetle hovered nearby, its eyes glowing as it mind-linked them through its telepathy.

"This is Garo— he can't come into the water, but he can see 'bout 6 miles into it." He said, gesturing to his pokemon. "He'll let us know if trouble gets near. As for me... yeah, I think I'll stick to Bean. I'll learn the ropes on the job."

He didn't dive so much as cannon ball into the water, splashing into the ocean before kicking his feet after the duo.

A slight blush shown against her high cheekbones for a few seconds after she realized she misunderstood John's words. Well, at least it did not seem to take offense to her words. In fact, he seems to get a little bit of a laugh out of it. "Ah, sorry. I suppose I took it upon myself to assume how you are feeling," she admitted, rubbing the back of her neck. Still words of encouragement are still great, right?

"Pleasure to meet you, too, John." She smiled at him. "Let's make this mission a quick one. I do not wish to keep you too long. I am sure you have better things to do, right?" She giggled, her piercing blue eyes glancing over at the at mysterious Bug/Psychic-type Pokémon. She gives the Orbeetle a friendly smile and a quick head nod. "Good idea!" She responded to John's words.

Airi and Bean gave John a little bit of time to catch up with them before diving a little bit deeper inside of the water. The two of them have been asked to search for important artifacts or resources that will be useful for research purposes. Unfortunately, Airi does not fully know where those objects may be found just yet. Luckily, she was given a device is useful for searching for missing items underwater. She takes the device and scans it over their area. A red flashing light along with a few beep noises soon starts to happen with the device. She takes a careful glance around their surroundings, finding abandoned building not too far away from them. Perhaps, the hidden treasure is resting within it. Airi gives John a hand gesture, encouraging him to follow her inside of the building.

He had waved off her apologies; there really wasn't much to apologize for, after all.

As they hoped into the water, he adjusted his breather whilst holding onto the swampert, reaching at his side for a powerful floodlight.

It flashed to life without a sound, illuminating broad swaths of the space around them as they began their serch for underwater items, as well as an entrance into the research facility's lower levels.

His partner finds it first, his flashlight moving in the direction of the entrance as she signals for him.

'Nice find!' Echoes through her mind, the connection established by Garo serving as a comm of sorts. 'Garo hasn't detected anything inside yet, but best be careful. Lead the way, Bean.'

TL;DR:

For a few seconds, Airi almost forgot John's Pokémon gave them the ability to communicate with each other using telepathy. She nods her head at his words before swimming a little closer towards the entrance. It does not take her long to realize that massive cargo box or something seems to be blocking the entrance. She glances over at Bean, signaling for him to clear their pathway.

The Swampert raises his powerful arm, smashing the box into small pieces and granting them access inside of the building. Airi thanks her Pokémon, then continues to swim deeper inside. "I don't know how much further we will have to travel inside building, but it doesn't seem like we're close to what we were searching for just yet," she tells John. She cannot help, but to feel as if something or someone is watching them from a distance.

With his Orbeetle looking out for them and a powerful swampert nearby, John moved forth with purpose, following after Airi into the building.

As he raised the floodlights forward, framing the shadows of mossy furniture and lost equipment across walls, he shrugged his shoulders at Airi's words.

'S'long as it looks valuable, we should be able to go back with our heads held high.' He thought, turning back to look her way. "Try 'n find stuff like hard drives or the like; maybe air tight cabinets?"

If it looked like it might have research information stored within it, it was worth taking back to the ship.

Airi nods her head at John's words. "Yeah. You're right. We will find whatever it is!" She smiled at him as she continues to swim around the room in search of any rare items or storages. It does not take her too long to find a file cabinet hiding behind a couple stacks of old chairs. Bean swims over towards his trainer, moving the chairs from in front of the file cabinet. Airi was about to make a reach for one of the drawers when she received warning from above the surface ringing through her mind. She quickly pulls away from the file cabinet then shifts her attention back towards John. Within seconds, a massive Sharpedo swam from out of the shadows.

Without any hesitation, the aggressive shark jets towards Airi and her Pokémon at full speed. Bean quickly fired a powerful Hydro Pump at the Sharpedo, but his opponent's swift movements made it easy for it to avoid the stream of water rushing its way. Bean position himself in front of Airi, enduring the Take Down. He winched out in pain from the roughness of the Sharpedo's skin, before using his hard tailfin to knock the shark away a bit. It did not take the Sharpedo too long to recover before it rushes towards them with an Aqua Jet. Bean is prepared this time. The massive axolotl raps his powerful fist against the seafloor to summoning shimmering, light blue pillars of rocks from below to slow down his opponent's movements. The Stone Edge does not only slow down the Sharpedo, but some of the pillars of rocks even managed to pierce its body and inflict a decent amount of damage.

"This is your chance, John! Check out the cabinet while we're distracting the Sharpedo!" Airi tells her partner.

The Sharpedo lets out a loud growl, then makes another attempt to fire his body at his opponent at high speed by using another Aqua Jet. Bean charges up his fist with an icy blue energy as he watches the swift shark head his way. With a loud grunt of his own, Bean delivers a powerful Ice Punch to his opponent, freezing it solid.

Ah shit, violence.

"On it." He says, kicking his feet towards the many cabinets with narrowed eyes, briefly taking a moment to flash his floodlights at the Sharpedo's eyes before turning it back to his goal.

Oh brother.

At least the useless stuff was easy to identify.

He tore open cabinets, knowing at a glance that they weren't what he was looking for, their contents spiled by salt water before he even checked inside them.

Behind him, there was the chaos of battle, but he didn't appear panicked or worried, though he was hurried.

Hn...?! Bingo!

He yoinked out of one of the cabinets what looked to be an airtight lockbox, holding it under his arm as he turned back to his partner.

"I got something! Let's skedaddle!"

Airi felt her body become more at ease as she watched the freezing energy from Bean's fist turn the Sharpedo into a fierce ice sculpture. She gave her Pokémon a thumbs up before swimming over to John. "Wait? Do you think that it's the right object? Perhaps, we should try to pry it open before heading back to the boat?" she suggestions. She then takes a moment think about the other dangers awaiting them deep within the shadows of the water.

"Second thought, let's head out of her." She grabs on to one of Bean's arm. The Swampert then waits for John to do the same thing before jetting them out of the water with his added speed from Liquidation. He will not take them long to reach the boat. There, it will be safe for them to open the box and see what is hiding inside of it.
