Adrian flashes a lasting grin that causes his eyes to wrinkle, and Howitzer grumbles a throaty affirmation. It has been so very long since his face grew tired from such expression, and though it pains him a great deal, he still smiles all the more for it.[break][break]

Adrian can feel the shear winds tousling hair, some of it too slick with blood to be moved, instead growing cold and crusting against his increasingly pallid skin. A gently settling heartbeat pounds stubbornly, throbbing against the bite of every scrape and bruise, leaving him enfeebled. His hands clench against what should've been dirt, but he feels an eerily familiar sensation, one far more welcoming—and yet—[break][break]

Through the smear of bloodshot eyes, he can plainly see his body has settled against the dense coat of Howitzer's fur, fingers delicately tracing the identifying zig-zagging stripes of black-on-orange. His eyes feel hot, sweltering and puffing as he tries to nudge her roughly. Not so much as a flinch, her limp body doesn't budge from his touch, lying still against the cold earth. Meekly he clambers against her, despite being in disrepair. She gives off no signs; not even dog breath...[break][break]

I LET HER DIE... AGAIN...

Adrian experiences a pulsating, smoldering heat that throbs in tandem with the pain, his eyes shuttering themselves as he resigns himself to the guilt, to the blame... To the melancholy of a death he was more than deserving of... This would be the last time he let her down.[break][break]

Allowing his mind to drift away from its focus on the ephemeral world around them, Adrian would feel drawn to fond recollections of their journeys shared. The good and the bad, as they had endured them together... ...Let this be the last time I see this, then...[break][break]

...And yet, as the last light begins to flicker and fade, his physical form feels a sudden, shuddering jolt as Howitzer's body is wracked with a sudden coughing fit, and his beloved partner sputters to life. His eyes open to reveal a vibrant shade of amber as he perishes the thought of macabre, and is rekindled with hope and joy, light and life...[break][break]

"...H—How could you do something so reckless?" He croaked to her, struggling to mouth the syllables. Though Adrian's tear streaked face trembled with fervor, the widening grin was quite telling as he buried himself against the lively bundle of furry joy.[break][break]

There was a voice on the wind that he could not place, and a warmth to the air that grew despite how his deepening injuries drained his vigor, but in that moment he thought only of her.

Freed from the strange delusion, Adrian feels his hand grasping at some vacant shape. A certain weight that'd been acting upon him lessens, but the thought is no less diminished. Even still, he can only think of his freedom, and how he might now use it. First he steadily rouses from his stupor, taking in the warped surroundings—[break][break]

Space-time breaks down around them in familiar sensation, though it interacts strangely with the alien ship. While the Megalopolans make their retreat, he can only assume this is enough to power their ship—though he has no real grasp of the technology. If there was more to it, he could not know.[break][break]

@ row's voice fetches his absent-minded attention, cutting through the fog of confusion. '...you coming?' As if it could be questioned. He managed a wry smirk before turning his attention to ARCANINE, bringing his fingers to his mouth and whistling sharply.[break][break]

"Howie, let's go." Throwing a leg over her back, Adrian manages to clamber on before she made a wicked lurch forward, bolting for the space vessel with more haste than grace. Arcanine's remarkable speed would allow them to outstrip any contingent Megalopolan force as yet remained.[break][break]

Once there he would make his stand with them (Rowan, Aidan) as they braced for the oncoming rush. Their NAGANADEL shot globs of poison muck at their ranks, so he thought then to disperse them: "Howie, FLAMETHROWER — scatter 'em!"[break][break]

Adrian's SHINIGAMI EYES allows him to see the aura of special characters. This can identify avatars and shadow pokemon. He can also see the unique biosignature of a person by their aura. People he's come across will be noticeably familiar despite their outward appearance. Yveltal may assist with remembering Adrian's last encounter with them.[break][break]
Adrian can steal the vitality of others through physical touch. This can be reallocated to his nearby pokemon as well as himself. Adrian also can enfeeble enemies from a close range or by contact. The closer he is to the target, the more they are affected by his presence.[break][break]
Adrian may grant a pokemon the DARK-type for a limited period of time. DARK-type moves used by a DARK-type pokemon cannot be resisted.[break][break]
Adrian can briefly become impervious after stealing vitality.[break][break]
Yveltal HATES all shadow pokemon. It will indiscriminately attack any and all shadow pokemon unless you can provide sufficient reasoning otherwise. It deals DOUBLE DAMAGE to shadow pokemon.[break][break]
Yveltal can absorb the vitality from YOUR nearby pokemon to boost its overall strength. (Exact effect to be determined by moderator.)

EVENT OVERVIEW

TAGGING SHADOWS is a Halloween Horror Event taking inspiration from the previous Member Event, NEVER-ENDING NIGHTMARE. In this event, your pokemon and yourselves will be caught within the lair of some sinister creature or apparition. You will find yourselves unable to leave, and under constant pursuit by a HOMICIDAL PRESENCE. But you are not without recourse...[break][break]

In TAGGING SHADOWS, you are tasked with overcoming particular obstacles so that you can escape THE PRESENCE before it captures you or your friends. While completing these obstacles, you will generate points towards a FEAR METER that will increase the difficulty of your trials and empower THE PRESENCE as it hunts.

OBJECTIVES

Above all else, you and your team are trying to SURVIVE and ESCAPE the HOMICIDAL PRESENCE. You will often find yourselves trapped and unable to flee, at least at first. You are expected to investigate the area while avoiding the presence, in order to uncover the secret to your salvation hidden within its domain.[break][break]

As players, you will all roll with every post. These rolls will be used for gauging clumsy interactions with the environment, and certain pursuit conditions. Additionally, you may be asked to roll for additional prompts. These should be rolled separately.

TURN AWAY EVIL

In every setting, there will be at least THREE EFFIGIES for you and your team to overcome. These are representative of the HOMICIDAL PRESENCE'S power and influence over the area, and are the anchors through which it traps you here. Destroy them, and you will be able to escape this wretch's realm through an EXIT.[break][break]

Each EFFIGY will have a clue or riddle that suggests what you must do in order to destroy them. If you interact with an effigy but fail to destroy it, the HOMICIDAL PRESENCE will be immediately alerted to your location. If you succeed, you will cause it great pain...[break][break]

Although not a constant, many EXITS may have similar requirements before utilizing them. This may hinge upon the overarching ease or difficulty of the experience, or factors such as the players' FEAR METER.

FIGHT OR FLIGHT

In many cases you will be forced to make the decision to FLEE or FIGHT the HOMICIDAL PRESENCE. While navigating the area you may be given certain clues as to what the entity's AVERSIONS are, but they should not be relied upon, as this only further angers the entity and causes your FEAR METER to build up rapidly.[break][break]

When FLEEING from the entity however, your turn will consist entirely of evading its vehement pursuit. Certain moves can be used inventively in order to hinder its advances or blind it to your location, but your ROLL will heavily determine the outcome as you attempt to elude the monster.

ESCAPE FROM EVIL

When a player fails a FIGHT or FLIGHT check for the first time, they lose access to their current pokemon and are considered INJURED. If it happens again before a player can overcome their wounds, they will be CAPTURED by the HOMICIDAL PRESENCE before being isolated from their allies, and trapped within some dark recess of its dreaded lair.[break][break]

While they are trapped, they will make a single roll while detailing their anguished struggling. If they roll 95-100, they will free themselves. If they roll 1-5 or 13, they will FADE TO BLACK and have no recollection of their grisly encounter.[break][break]

Players may seek out their ISOLATED comrades to FREE them, rolling THREE (3) times with ADVANTAGE. If they roll 80-100, they will succeed in their rescue. If they roll 1-30, they will alert the HOMICIDAL PRESENCE to their intentions.

It seems so obviously dangerous to push his luck by being here, but then there is much he stands to lose by not laying claim to what was rightfully his once. As Adrian meanders through the woods in search of a once lively grotto, he finds it has come to be overrun by rampant growth of weeds.[break][break]

Luckily, his plants still bore fruit.[break][break]

The Vileplume that remains here lies dormant, surrounded by a dense growth of vines. Perhaps it has grown accustomed to being left alone for great spans of time—he hopes this is considered to be a great deal more liberating than cumbersome for the creature. Adrian reaches for a tool from his backpack, finding a sharp instrument to cut away the undesired brush.[break][break]

The rustling of the growth drowns out the sounds of night. It's only when he goes to wipe his brow after extensively clearing out patches of invasive growth, that he notices the rustling somewhere behind him. On edge, he manages to slowly turn around, finding a set of eyes in the dark. Hmmm, I wonder what you are...?[break][break]

"Vileplume, wake up," he calls out loudly. The LUXIO takes this poorly, nimbly exiting the hedges and approaching him and his berry garden. The Vileplume is slow to rouse, but eventually joins the standoff. "Vileplume, u—"[break][break]

Abruptly the Luxio ROARS, cowing his Vileplume. Its hairs stand on end before small arcs of electricity streak along its body, its feet digging into the earth before it tries to make a dash for Adrian.[break][break]

"You cheeky runt," Adrian mouths in contempt, reaching suddenly for a spare pokeball and pitching it in the creature's path. In the moments it's caught in the sphere's clutches, he readies a separate pokeball, realing his Arcanine onto the field. When it released, it was clear he had an advantage, though the creature seemed desperate for a berry—and lunged for the patch regardless.[break][break]

But Howitzer quickly caught it by the scruff, tossing it away. After a rough landing, it managed to stand itself up, though it seemed to struggle with what to do next. Perhaps it was wounded? At the very least, he could see its bones through its skins enough to mean it was probably hungry. Ah, hell...[break][break]

Adrian had too many pokemon under his care. In the past he might not have been troubled by this, but now, with his own movements feeling so restricted, it seemed cruel to try and bring anything else under his guardianship. And yet...[break][break]

Preparing another pokeball, Adrian tried to capture the creature again. He could always re-release it into the wilds, but part of him knew he would never bring himself to do it...
