Nothing beats spending time with his Pokemon and this trip to Dewford town let Caius do just that. He had been able to let his boys loose so they could enjoy a little time outside of the city and their Pokeballs for a while. Of course sent Evan a notice that’d he’d be taking some time off and with no worries at his back he was going to take time to maybe enjoy what Dewford had to offer, this included the Granite cave. [break][break]

While Dallas had been enjoying sleeping on the beach Houston and Caius had begun exploring the Granite cave, it seemed like the perfect place to start their hunt for strong Pokemon. Overturning a rock, Caius checked for Pokemon only to find nothing. His Machamp tipped a boulder having no luck as well. [break][break]

“Looks like the Pokemon are hiding today huh buddy?” Caius laughed, dusting his hands off. [break][break]

“Champ.” Houston replied, mimicking his trainer. [break][break]

Taking a moment to contemplate things over Caius cupped his chin with two fingers, “Maybe we should go deeper yeah?” he gestured to the darker part of the cave with a thumb. The large fighting type agreed with a nod and the two would head a bit deeper into the cavern.

[attr="class","adrianscroll"]They are deep into the recesses of Granite Cave, Adrian and his vileplume, searching for a rumor in the dark with naught but a torch. The local townsfolk tell of elusive, rare pokemon hiding out in the deepest pits of the local cave, unearthing themselves only on special occasion or provocation. He's also able to learn about precious materials that were once allegedly harvested here, although it seems this was from a time since past them. Whether any of it holds true remains to be seen, but Adrian is not without his curiosity on the matter.[break][break]

Arriving at another expected dead end along their current path, Adrian curses in a shrill tone, almost hissing. His vileplume casts its beady eyes sideways at him; having accompanied him this far, Rover guesses correctly that it is unlikely he is going to turn back anytime soon. Not after spending so much time chasing down this mystery level of the cave. "Let's double back and try another path," Adrian barks in exasperation.[break][break]

As they cross the threshold into the previous antechamber, his ears single out the sound of footsteps nearby. Is it a person? Without much to be seen beyond the dimming radiance of his torch, he waves it around blindly, trying to catch a glimpse of what had taken to stalking the cave.
His body had grown tense and he was slightly hunched, that he might spring into action should a threat reveal itself.[break][break]

Pebbles and dust began to fall from the walls, unsettled and sent clattering to the floor...[break][break]

p.s. torch in this sense means flashlight, using it in the uk sense.

“I can’t see shit.” he squinted at the torch in the darkness, putting his hand over his eyes as he tried to navigate onwards. There was someone in his path, the only issue was he had no idea who or what. He didn’t know too many Pokemon that had torches... Except maybe CHARIZARD!

“Charizard stay right there!” he rushed forward, running full force ahead as he imagined the Pokemon before him. It had to be a massive Pokemon, it had to be a CHARIZARD of all things. Sadly, another Pokemon would pop up in his path! A Poliwrath minding its own.

He threw a Pokeball, his machamp materializing and delivering a dynamic punch into the unaware Poliwraths head-body. In follow up Caius threw a Pokeball at it.

[attr="class","adrianscroll"]There was a rush of wind nearby as something lunged forward, and his torch immediately flashed over the scuffle of a Machamp and a Poliwrath. That it was happening just a few short yards off from where he'd stood had startled him. The pokemon here had learned to live in silence, perhaps because of the acoustics, and it made Adrian uneasy. As he took a step backwards to give the struggling pokemon some room, his heel slipped against something rough but malleable.[break][break]

"What the-" He was startled to find a sizable snake coiled just before his feet, baring its fangs testily as the light washed over its figure, subsequently striking out at him. Yet Rover readily lowered its head, deflecting the pokemon's assault; the resultant collision was as sword and shield, the silicobra finding no purchase against the stalwart defense of Rover's massive petals. But nor could it recoil from the assault, as vileplume had begun to drain it with an unprecedented voracity at the point of contact.[break][break]

Rover used Giga Drain on the wild Silicobra![break]

It was super effective!

Phew. It could've gone much worse for Adrian, who was quick to prepare a poke ball for the serpent lying at his feet, hoping to have it identified later. Rover simply watched on with mild disinterest, making an audible hmph before turning away towards the other two fighting pokemon. How Rover could see them in the dark, and with such beady eyes, was unknown to Adrian. So he turned the light of his torch towards the scuffle, now seeing it was a trainer's pokemon that had pummeled the wild poliwrath. The golden haired trainer and their machamp were caught in the path of his flashlight, probably blinded by its brilliance even, so he turned it over towards the side of the tunnel and called out in introduction.[break][break]

"Hey there! I'm Adrian. Sorry for the light," he added guiltily. "Bit dark down here."

He got em, it was a bit quick and a little surprising but the Poliwrath was caught. Picking up the Pokeball he advanced towards what he believed to be a Charizard! His new Poliwrath would be an asset in the oncoming fight. [break][break]

“I hope you have insurance Charizard! Cause you’re about to get smaaaaaaas-” he paused once they were fully in view, he saw not a Charizard but a person. There was a lack of scales, horns and wings. Not even a little bit of orange scales, just a man and his torch. [break][break]

Caius didn’t speak for a few moments as he watched the other person silently, temporarily turning mute before speaking, “Oh uh, hello. I’m Caius.” the blank expression on his face curling upwards into a smile. As sad as he was that there was no big Charizard but this was the next best thing! A new person. “What uh, what are you doing out here? Charizard hunting?”

[attr="class","adrianscroll"]It was almost comical the way they'd approached him as if Adrian were a pokemon, but he supposed their choice of locale was to blame; he could hardly see past his nose without any artificial lighting. He waved the flashlight to the side, holding it up at the ceiling that they might be able to converse as people, not disembodied voices echoing through the dark. The other trainer introduced themselves as Caius, which he responded in kind: "Adrian. It's a pleasure."[break][break]

From the way they asked him what he was doing, and having moments prior rushed at him shouting 'Charizard', he arrived at the conclusion that Caius himself was hunting for a Charizard. Adrian shook his head, dismissing that assertion and providing his own: "Searching for anything, really. Special minerals, strong pokemon..." His voice trailed off as he finished his thought. He wondered whether they wouldn't be better investigating the rest of the cave together, deciding to ask Caius to keep him company.[break][break]

"You heading deeper in? Why not go together," he asked politely, motioning towards a dark corridor he'd yet to explore. "Might be safer that way." Perhaps they wouldn't mind, but just in case he quickly amended: "And, of course, you get dibs on any charizard..." “That’s a good idea.” it was a good idea to travel in a pack, if they saw big Pokemon they could work together to take them down that’d leave more time to hunt Charizard and Charizard like pokemon, “You are very smart.” he complimented. In his mind this Adrien was smart indeed, but they could have had an ulterior motive in taking him deeper into the cave, to kill him, steal his Pokemon or mug him which was just stealing his Pokemon as well. Still, there was always a certain excitement in trusting strangers it kept him on his toes. Plus, if the guy got out of hand he could always put him in a deadly nelson. [break][break]

“Houston, return.” he recalled his Machamp before turning back to the other trainer, “So, are there any Pokemon in particular you’re hunting? Or are the rocks more your priority?” he was curious as to what someone like this Adrien fellow could be looking for. There were so many Pokemon with so little time in the world, everyone has a certain type they liked and if Caius had to pin one down on this guy it had to be dark types or maybe steel. It was a hard guess for any secondary type.[break][break]

“Thank you for the dibs on Charizard, I reckon if they live down here they must be some of the most solid of their species.” he chuckled “Solid.” he added air quotes around the word solid. [break][break]

Caius was a bit eerie of the guy at first but with every second that past that he wasn’t attacked he was beginning to get comfortable. Rocking his head from right to left he cracked his neck and nodded at the other male, “I’ve heard of stones, heard of Dr. Stone, sun stones and stones that make Pokemon evolve but mega stones…?” he shook his head. [break][break]

“I wouldn’t put it past a smart looking trainer like you to be after something that sounds so cool though.” he offered a compliment as he cracked his fingers, “They must be something really cool to be mega. Do they do anything special?” [break][break]

When asked if he’d want to return his Pokemon he’d shrug, “Well, given we’re in such small quarters I figured it’d be best to reduce space taken up, why? You gonna hit me over the head to see if I got any mega stones? If it helps I don’t but you’re welcome to look anyway.” his words were playful, his smiles was teasing, but his tone was earnest. He was never one to turn down a big fight, even in a tight little cave. [break][break]
