Thrown onto the ground like a rag doll, stripped of belongings and pokemon, save for three. [break][break]

Ayame has set the stage; the unruly, unpredictable jungle. Throughout, she is judging. She watches from within the confines of the gym walls, smiling at monitors where cameras had been set up on her own pokemon to stealthily follow the challenger in question. [break][break]

Night has fallen, and pokemon are getting ready to sleep; the diurnal ones, at least. Nocturnal pokemon still scuttle and hiss, with growls being heard in the distance. The entrance of the forest is nowhere to be seen, meaning the challenger was dropped off in some random point in the forest. The trainer will find slashed leaves, half-eaten berry bushes, and branches and fallen twigs surrounding them. [break][break]

He already knew the fail conditions; the only thing left was to HUNT OR SURVIVE. [break][break]

It was getting dark; the only thing on his person were the three pokemon he brought and the flare in his pocket. Wind was picking up; the night was going to be a cold one. [break][break]

Maybe it was a good thing he left his pipe behind in Verdanturf, after all.

…but then there was the issue of his first-aid kit not on his person when he woke up with a screaming headache. Ow. Ow, what the hell was in that tea?! He knew better than to accept tea from seedy-looking strangers, and this… this was the epitome of…

…wait, he was in the forest?

Blinking, he quickly searches his pockets, hoping that he can find something he can use. Hissing angrily, the first-aid kit he always kept on his person was gone, and so were… so were the matches! Well, shit.

But wait, wasn’t he a Ranger? One who could live off the wild without having to rely on such human comforts?! This thought gave him some clarity as he found the three Pokéballs he had with him—a good sign.

At least he wasn’t going to go through this alone.

Taking quick note of the surroundings, he noted that the place was in an uproar—clearly, he was in a den of a Pokémon and he had to get moving, to get out. Spotting the fallen branches and leaves concerned him, along with the half-eaten shrubs of Berries.

Move, Lars. Move! He thought as he forced himself to get up, pressing a hand to the side of his head as he then stumbled out of the clearing, hoping that he wouldn’t run into anything too drastic as darkness fell all around him.

Just like before.

he wakes in the darkness, and there's peace for but a little while longer. [break][break]

everything seems calm, quiet and fine; until his hand is suddenly caught within a thick, sticky thread of a drained electroweb. after adjustment to the darkness, faint sparks would be able to be recognizable. unfortunately for him, he stumbles into the forest home of a large, yellow arachnid pokemon. it hisses from within the darkness, with its eight eyes glaring towards the intruder. the galvantula is visible in the darkness with the courtesy of it's sparking, yellow fuzz. [break][break]

but it grows bigger, and bigger, as it approaches. it crawls through the trees and the ground, using agility to rush at the trainer. [break][break]

If there was one thing he didn’t like, it was the pressing darkness pushing down all around him. He thought he saw something not too far ahead, and since it took time for his eyes to adjust to the darkness, it was rather difficult to see.

For the moment, at least.

It doesn’t take long for his hand to land smack on something… and that something felt really tingly. Quickly recoiling back, he squinted through the darkness and saw that it was a web… oh, shit.

If there was one thing Lars despised more than anything, it was fucking spiders. Spiders of any size and shape… those usually sent him running for the hills. He didn’t know he was scared of them until that Bug-catching contest previously, where he had encountered a monster-sized Spinarak that made him almost flee the area as soon as he’d arrived.

As the darkness cleared up a bit and his eyes adjusted slightly to the darkness, he catches sight of the yellow fuzz of fur—the hairs on the back of his neck stand up on end. Oh, shit. Were these… cannibalistic spiders? Who ate humans? Who suffocated their prey in silk until they died and—

Move! He yelled in the back of his brain, although his legs were stuck and—

Oh, shit.

The galvantula wasn't looking for a meal, thankfully, for the trainer. Although they would like to, they would have to abide by the gym leader. On the other hand, that didn't stop them from wanting to scare the man just a little bit. Witnessing Lars' attempt to escape and move, though hindered by the webs and slight electric charge in them, it began to loudly hiss. [break][break]

The spider pokemon effectively notifies the surrounding pokemon, and soon he can hear the scuttling of many other legs - all of which belong to a small crowd of five spinarak. [break][break]

the spinarak began to circle around him in a curious manner, until they create a formation around him and prepare to encase him in threads. Though the galvantula won't eat him, who's to say the wild pokemon won't?

He wanted to scream.

But if there was something he learned when it came to insects like this—the louder you were, the more agitated they became. While his right hand was stuck on the Sticky Web from earlier, his left hand was not. Well, hopefully he could still be able to turn this around!

Lars had a one in three chance to throw out the right Pokémon, so he reached blindly into his pocket and pulled out a Pokéball at random, tossing it high—and let out a sigh of relief as his Altaria materialized. Now, he knew that there was some bad blood between them, but this was not the time to think about things!

“Help,” was all he said, gesturing at the… Spinarak… that were now surrounding him and getting ready to mummify him alive. Oh, fuck, what if these little ones were just hell spawn of that giant-sized one he encountered a few months back?

What if that giant-ass Spinarak was in this same section of forest?!

He had no idea if he could be able to attack them, or if he could do anything else. So the Altaria hovered rather uselessly above them, before swooping down in an attempt to shoo the five Spinarak away from Lars.

He didn’t know if these would be easily swayed—his own fucking phobia had rooted him to the spot. They…

They were making strange clicking noises and it freaked him out so bad.

the altaria is successful in fending the spinarak off, although the tiny, green spiders seemed to click in distaste (and hunger) alike. as they were not harmed, a few that weren't flipped onto their backs by the nimbus dragon scurried back to hide behind a fairly protective, yellow spider. the den pokemon seemed slightly displeased, especially with the audacity of a bird who decided to swoop down and disturb a new feast (that would have been stopped by ayame if things went too far, anyways). [break][break]

as such, the galvantula hisses and began to charge up an electroweb - the thin yet strong fibres began to crackle of electricity, and was preparing to be launched at the altaria. [break][break]

and just then, a little vivillon fluttered through the forest, close down by the galvantula. it held a small monitor, with the gym leader herself sitting in the japanese-styled teahouse with a small smile. she holds the cup in front of her body, as though to mockingly offer it through the screen. "it doesn't look like a good situation for you, here." she comments, tilting her head. "i hope you can escape." and with that, the vivillon lets out a happy squeal and flies back above the trees to observe.

lars legs are still stuck in the weakly charged web. if he fails to escape the web or fend off/defeat the den pokemon in three posts, his escape will be considered a failure.[break]
due to the circumstances, you do not need to roll these next three posts. consequences will solely be reflected off your actions (eg. wild pokemon chance with sound-based moves, escape, etc).

Just as he thought shit wasn’t going to get worse… it fucking did.

He thought he saw something weird flying towards his direction, and had to do a double-take. How the hell could a Vivillon be able to transport a small television screen? And then, the audacity, of the Gym Leader, back safe wherever she was, taunting him about having to get away… and if he didn’t get away, well, he was toast.

His gaze then turned to the Galvantula, before he reached into his jacket and pulled out another Pokéball. A one in two chance.

Tossing it forward, he looked over at Nami, before shouting, “Safeguard yourself!” before watching the red beam of light transform… into his Beartic, Madoc.

Ah, shit! I hope this works! He thought frantically as he pointed at the Galvantula with his free hand. “Madoc! Swagger and strut your shit in front of that Galvantula! After that, Frost Breath down by its feet! Try to freeze it! Nami! Mirror Move, copy his Frost Breath and try to drive the spiders away!”

At the same time, he frantically tried to work his feet free of the sticky web that was holding his feet down. Thrashing about, he watched as his Pokémon attempted to fend off the Galvantula… and the whole horde of Spinarak at the same time.

time to get moving!

• Has his Altaria use Safeguard as a precaution! (1 / 5)
• Throws out his Beartic, attempted to use Swagger on the Galvantula! After that, exhales a Frost Breath in the Spinarak horde direction.
• Altaria Mirror Move-copies the Frost Breath, adding a second layer of Frost Breath to the Spinaraks in an attempt to drive them off.
• Meanwhile, Lars tries to free himself. AGH

even with the safeguard, it does little to stop the charged web asides from prevent any chances of paralysis. it's able to hit the bird and send a shock through its system, however the altaria is still up and seemingly alright. [break][break]

on the other hand, the spinarak seem displeased with a larger beartic in the way of their soon to be feast. as was the galvantula, who seemed irritated at how the man seeemd to stare at him and the other little spiders. even more so, when the beartic seemed to raise its attack, at the cost of possible confusion. the galvantula lets out another hiss in frustration, trying to command to group of tiny spiders to scuttle their way to the trainer himself. unfortunately, they were blasted away by layers of frost breath, and they end up stuck on their backs and harmlessly flailing their legs in the air. [break][break]

the galvantula, meanwhile, takes this chance to hop down and approach the spinarak, using its fluffy pinchers to pick up and set them back onto their feet. [break][break]

All while this happens, Lars' attempt to flail out of the webs was successful: at the cost of residue webs sticking to his pants. he'll want to be careful while running, as to not get anything caught on the fabric.

Thankfully, the surprise assault he’d launched had proven successful—he had managed to free himself from the sticky spider silk. Along with his Altaria and Beartic, the Mirror Move’d Frost Breath had managed to slow down the spiders successfully and give them enough room to maneuver around.

“Madoc, Nami, to me!” he called out, and kept his eyes trained on the Galvantula as the Beartic and the Altaria approached him. One lumbered his way on hind legs, while the other flew towards him on the spiraling updrafts. Much as he was tempted to get on the Altaria and fly out of here, he knew he had to stay the night.

The question was, how much longer did he have to wait before sunrise? Had he lost track of time that much he couldn’t tell just by looking at the stars anymore?

He then recalled the Beartic, but left the Altaria out and about—the Safeguard protection was as good as any to have around him. Emerald-green stare never leaving the Galvantula, he backed away—before quietly going into the forest depths.

After all, he did have to survive, as that was the name of the challenge, right?
