After losing his family, home and pokemon in the Kanto takeover, Yuuma fled to Hoenn in hopes of a better life. After struggling to find a job, he eventually began working at Lilycove's Poke Mart to help an old man that had been its sole worker. He treated Yuuma as if he were his own son, and the two grew to become family to each other. Come his retirement, Yuuma continued working the store alone.

For obvious reasons Yuuma loathed Rocket to his core, they had taken everything from him and he was glad to see them finally fall. However, around the time its reincarnation began to rise, the old man that had taken Yuuma in had grown severely ill and the fees for his treatment were vast. Yuuma found himself striking a deal with the new Rocket: so long as he was on their paycheck, he would allow them to use his store as a cover for the smuggling of whatever they so pleased. His job is simply to store and protect the goods given to him, no questions asked. He only hopes the arrangement won't last long.

Yuuma, despite coming off as clumsy and air-headed, only means well. Never one to overlook a cry for help, he has a tendency to overextend himself. His recent change in alignment is a source of incredible stress for him, but Yuuma takes care to not let it show, wishing to keep it a secret from anyone he knows. While allowing himself to be bought off by the organisation he hates frustrates him greatly, Yuuma sees this trade-off as necessary and, if things go his way, only temporary.
