rattata was comfortably situated upon cait's shoulder, his sharp gaze swiveling to and fro and his senses strained to detect the subtle sounds that originated from nearby brush. his mistress maintained a slow yet steady pace, ultimately unhurried as she wandered the vastness of the lightly manicured environment.  

"i've never bothered looking up the logistics of this place," she mused.

perhaps it was similar to her own? but how did they succeed at keeping the pokemon from breeding or hunting one another excessively? sit was only after a moment of contemplation that she surmised that they introduced species with those issues in mind.

"i'll look it up when i have the time," she decided, shrugging lightly.

she was green.

"a chansey?"

a green chansey.

she was in the midst of foraging, appearing to examine the grass for any signs of fallen berries. her plump figure waddled about, a hint of a scowl tugging at the corners of her lips as she searched for food to no avail. eventually, her gaze shifted from the ground onto cait, whom merely slowed to a halt. 

"chanse?"

the chansey's eyes wandered across her form before settling upon her mane. her unusually hardened gaze lingered there for a moment before she moved to approach, an air of authority about her as she haughtily presented herself to the young woman. she extended a small arm, the appendage soon curling into a beckoning gesture.

"i..." 

as cait struggled to understand what the wild pokemon desired, her rattata soon releasing a snort as comprehension dawned upon him first. he'd unzip and reach into her bag with a set of clever paws, revealing a packaged treat a moment later. 

"oh."

she retrieved the food item from the rodent, holding it up and out of the chansey's reach. 

"how about a trade?" 

the chansey's expression became increasingly stoic, but she remained still - her paw still extended. 

"you come with me and i'll get you as much food as you'd like. what do you say to that?" 

chansey's lips curled into a sneer, but she hesitated, visibly tempted by the prize in the woman's hand.

"as much as you could possibly eat. no more rotten berries - no more dried up grass or bitter seed. only the good stuff, girl."

the normal-type's eyes narrowed, cait having already reached with her free hand for a capsule as the shiny pokemon released a snort and made a small noise of affirmation to the deal.

chansey made for an interesting addition, the pokemon a sharp contrast to what she had imagined a chansey to be behavioral-wise. if memory served - and it oft served well enough - 's blissey had been a wonderful, neat and well-behaved creature. it was one reason why her sceptile had fancied her in their earlier days, the grass-type drawn to her gentle demeanor and beautiful exterior. 

but this particular chansey was - 

"this is my last one. maybe you can share with r -  "

before she could finish her sentence, her remaining granola bar was snatched away. the colorful packaging was promptly torn away, yeeted someplace in the distance, and its edible contents were devoured within seconds.

"rattata can you... can you go get that for me. i'm not about to be fined for littering."

chansey chewed noisily, purposefully making eye contact with cait as she released a weary sigh.

'i think i made a mistake.'

cait was left with little choice but to return her freshly caught chansey to her capsule, concerned by the way she'd eye applin as though she considered the little dragon to be naught more than a conviently-sized edible. 

"let's see what you are..."

she produced a slightly scuffed and apple green pokedex, rearranging the babe in her arms to give them a quick scan. she'd soon discover that they were female, relatively young and possessed a half-decent moveset. 

"not bad," she remarked. "but it could be better."

'and they're just old enough to start training, too,' she thought.

cait returned the electronic encyclopedia to her pants pocket before focusing on the path ahead. her rattata returned to his formerly attentive state, keeping an eye out for their immediate surroundings.

it was her first time coming into direct contact with a snom - and the woman immediately fell in head over heels for the beast. she'd fall to her knees before the tiny creature, her eyes bright and round with wonder as she stumbled over her own words.

"oh, arceus," she breathed. "it's a... it's a..." 

her applin blinked down at the pokemon, having been gingerly set down as cait examined the ice-encrusted larvae. 

"it's a baby!"

the woman squealed her delight, not hesitating in scooping up the pokemon and cuddling its chilled body close. she ignored its icy exterior in favor of pressing it into the warmth of her bosom, cooing softly to the visibly bemused creature. 

"you're mine now," she said, a possessive edge entering her tone of voice.

"so you're a little boy."

cait had decided on taking a short break and shifting her focus toward the small pair. both peered up at her, curious of the human whom had laid claim to them with a startling amount of ease. the rodent remained upon her shoulder, his expression giving away little. 

"if chansey hadn't eaten all the snacks," she murmured. "i'd have given you both a treat by now. but i suppose we can find something around here."

were there any berries to be found? she looked around, offering her immediate surroundings a quick survey before she frowned. 

"don't tell me the chill killed them all off?"

she released a little sigh and then shrugged. 

"there should be a species of berry that can withstand the cold," she remarked. "rawst, if memory serves. but they're terribly bitter."

the two tottered after the woman as she picked her way through the safari zone, her pace kept slow to ensure they could keep up.

both she and rattata had succeeded in gathering a meager amount of berries. they were disappointingly small and had been treated unkindly by the weather, but a gentle touch had caused them to sweeten and grow healthy again.

"here you are," cait said.

she had lain down a thin blanket that had been formerly stowed away in her pack. the pair of freshly caught pokemon settled upon its length, appearing to greatly appreciate the soft layer that separated them from coarse grass.

"i can't wait to introduce you two to gardevoir," she said, conversationally. "the younger pokemon are growing a bit too old for the nursery nowadays."

cait observed as snom indulged in a berry, but applin didn't appear to express any interest in the treat.

"not hungry?" 

she then peered at the little dragon and released a hum, her brows furrowing lightly. 

"or maybe..."

another scan revealed that the applin was being perfectly sustained by its apple - how curious. what was also curious was the presence of a brown furred creature that had taken it upon themselves to indulge in the uneaten berries; its mouth smeared with their juices.

"and just who are you?"

her rattata released a discontented noise, having observed the eevee's approach. he had considered it harmless, both its size and demeanor leaving him unperturbed.

"well, i guess you can join us then."

the pokemon didn't require much convincing, eager to fill its belly and join the trio as they packed the impromptu picnic. 

"i think it's about time we leave," cait decided. "it's getting colder out." 

she blinked down at the eevee.

"coming with?"
