She doesn't contest, it is in his right to make such a choice. Isra knows where a line ought to be drawn, her nature of subtle guidance comes from a different place than most can understand.

While many are like Gavin, keeping their achievements close to breast, all to themselves, venturing only to further themselves it is a contrast between them that makes Isra grin. She is the other side of the coin, to embolden, to light a flame, that is her nature be it through kind and guiding words or through antagonistic means to spur one on is their choice, but she does it in subtle waves beneath her words regardless.

Perhaps one day Gavin will find such benefits to her company too.

"I speak of a different loss, sacrifice is a natural course of action yes, but one must be choosey in what they allow to fall through the cracks." her tea finds the table top, a delicate and deliberate action with little weight behind it but the way she carries herself can fool a mind, make it think otherwise. "The loss of experience makes them fodder for the flames, such a pokemon may gain immediate strength but it cannot compensate for the lack of an ability to handle a situation that has never been presented before."

A single, slender finger taps on the table top rhythmically, as if there is a tune playing in her head. "How do you seek to cover that loss? If at all."

Experience isn't everything of course, but to someone who trains by it she can see no place for his work without seeing a greater trade off than what he presents at the surface.

Isra listens though her eyes stray from him to the growing shadows over his shoulder. Habit dictates caution, a wariness that serves her well as violet eyes shift through the growing darkness they are most accustomed to. Some things are natural movements in the dark, whispering shadows and wondering demons, she sees nothing abnormal as he speaks and thinks that perhaps there is greater curiosity here than she initially thought.

"And how exactly, do you seek to train a beast who has barely settled in its body before being thrust into another, and expect it to stick?" the question comes from an odd place, from a knowing that differs from the norm and it frames it in unseen variables, little notes in a mind that sees things from angles that don't actually exist. She seeks not to challenge but to fill the void in her head.

Her eyes return to him from over his shoulder, a gentle motion like a puppet's string being pulled and her eyes move with it. His further explanation may very well be more intriguing than the last. The move forward is a natural progression, it is expected, the world craves for it.

To stagnate, to force it, to control it, is something interesting.

"On the contrary, that may be more useful than you think." the endeavors of science are lost to her, its path ways and nuances are too many for her to wrap around but an application of an end result? That she likes. "If such a thing can be mastered properly the opportunities for application in a large scale battle would be rather fruitful."

A finger touches her lip, thoughts rolling in her head, game pieces jumping across a board in a strategized play of cards from the hand. It would be a conditional play but one worth venturing into nonetheless. "Say you were preparing to make a move against an enemy, the ability to infiltrate their forces and stagnate their growth ahead of time while accelerating your own allows for an alarming gap in between. It wouldn't have applications nowadays as easily as it used to but it could be a turning point at the right moment."

Then again, Isra does so enjoy the act of crippling an enemy before they ever get the chance to act to begin with.

She mulls over his response, more a dissection of the mentality that might lead to it than anything else as Gavin continues to talk. She herself has little interest, in the parts of science that must be conducted and much more in the final results, the data on the paper. The information that experimentation leads to and the numbers that can be easily crunched in her head and devoured like candy.

Isra is content to let someone like him acquire it, so long as she kind find a way for it to be fed to her. So long as he keeps talking she gets the part she cares about. "So you avoid immediate gratification then?" she can admire it, both it at the mentality he's exhibited so far. There is much to be had in both patience and impatience, tenacity and flexibility, things that ought to be exhibited in the right moments and cast aside for something better when no longer useful.

Then again, Isra is a woman that wears her personality more like another garment than as a self of any kind.

"Only if what you have now says it is so." she comments with a hint of a grin. "How much have you delved into such an idea? It's interesting, and may serve to further the other side of the coin just as well. Knowing what effects either must surely influence both." because the world is rarely so isolated as for that to be anything less than true. Or perhaps, it is just her own abstract thinking that makes it so.

There's a momentary grin of approval. A small crack in her normally perfectly practiced mask. Rarely does Isra ever feel the emotions she conveys, part of the elaborate ruse, the game she is always playing. He earns himself a glimpse of what lies bellow.

"Good. That is something few ever grasp." the nod is slight, a subtle approval beyond the grin as she contemplates his answer. her eyes move from him for the moment, scanning the city as its night life takes over in the background. She has chosen a more quiet part of the city but the lights in the distant catch her attention nonetheless.

After a moment she asks, "I assume rocket only pays you for progression forward then? Or is it something else they ask of you?" when she looks back at him it is with genuine curiosity.

"Their loss."

There is no hesitation in her answer, a personal belief bleeding through though she won't allow it to do any further. She keeps the rest of the train of thought to herself. It's not truly her place to continue, not with him. A stranger, an outsider, a day walker, a man with no right to what else she could say. Not now.

"I don't often get the chance to speak with the scientists, what sort of things do they have you working on as of late?" of course she expects a half answer, the woman has no true clearance to an answer but curiosity compels her to try anyway.

"Well that's no fun at all."

she's clearly disappointed in the lack of details, not even so much as a real hook or bait. She can appreciate his caution, the way he tip toes around it but states he's doing so but it only leaves her wondering more than not. Pestering seems unlikely to get her much further, at least for now. She supposes it should be expected after a point.

"Could have at least given me some sort of ridiculous lie to laugh at you know." Isra returns to her tea, finding it has gone cold in the cool evening air and sets it back down. Whatever might be wasted is of little concern anyway, she prefers the specially ordered tea she wakes to every evening anyway.

"You talk as if I trust any of them."

She does and she doesn't. They exist in a void until the rest of the world can confirm or deny. Information is nothing more than a jumble of words. Pieces of things that mean nothing until the full picture comes into view. Isra compares and follows the strings and connections in her head until she can paint a picture with the words of those around her.

And even then.

Even then.

Are they real?

Are they true?

She does not know.

"Tsk, that's why you're supposed to make it obvious it's a lie." you're supposed to over the top, dramatic, whimsical, it's the only kind of lie she'll accept. The kind so out of the box and over the top you laugh at the sheer hilarity of it.Not that Gavin had anyway of knowing that. The woman is usually far too clean cut for that kind of thing. It's a glimmer of what lies below the well crafted surface.

She'll look back on the comment later and realize, to her surprise, what she has said. Gavin is not the sort she expects to get such notions out of her.
