marcel and gavin wait within the outskirts of the park for the couple to make their appearance. vega sits in a nearby tree, out of sight but on guard nonetheless. the setting sun makes for a romantic scene--though he has no respect for the man he can at least acknowledge his eye.

Gavin strikes a match, lighting a cigarette and carefully blowing the smoke away from his companion. It catches on the breeze and forms winding patterns as it rises, momentarily obscuring Gavin's view of the park in a haze of grey.[break][break]

"Don't see them," Gavin reports, adjusting his glasses as he scans the area. Binoculars would be a bit obvious, but he certainly wishes for a pair in that moment. "You think they'll arrive by car, foot, Pokemon...?"[break][break]

In a different tree, equally near, his Crobat hangs upside down and pretends to sleep.

"the car will pull up a bit away from here, they'll walk the rest of the way." it was funny how careful they tried to be. their efforts were in vain.

one of their two pokemon were in position to spot the car when it came. marcel had enough faith in his intel and them to allow himself to relax as he waited. he casts a sidelong glance at gavin, the smoke between his lips catching his attention. "you got one to spare?"

Gavin glances over at Marcel when he request a smoke. He offers a silent nod of affirmation before digging into his pocket for the pack and sliding one out, passing it to Marcel along with the book of matches. Perhaps a lighter would be more convenient, but he enjoys the scent of the matches.[break][break]

He takes another drag of his own cigarette, leaning his head back and slowly exhaling.[break][break]

His Crobat shifts its wings whenever it spots a car, as directed, and Gavin surveys the distant parking lot with vague disinterest until an unassuming gray sedan pulls into a space. The woman gets out first, delicate in her movements. A trained eye doesn't miss the way she glances around, an anxious hand fixing her hair.[break][break]

"There they are." He gestures subtly with the hand holding the cigarette, flicks ash from the tip. "Bet it kills a man like him to drive a car like that. Heh."

gavin draws his attention to the woman exiting the car. "cinderella's carriage is here," he says dryly.
[break][break]he rearranges himself to sit more openly, deflecting suspicion. he laughs at the remark, partly because he wanted to act as if he was deep in conversation with gavin as well as own amusement. "serves him right."

he takes out his cigarette with the same hand that holds his his phone. his thumb moves to push the shutter button as he carries on pretending to talk to gavin. once his phone is back at his side, he glances at the screen. blurry.

"get your pokemon to slow them down a bit." he says as they begin to move out of eye shot.

Gavin spouts whatever nonsense comes to mind in order to carry on a false pretense of conversation, mostly insulting their target. "Rode up in a shitty car but hasn't ditched the Rolex. Has to impress the lady. Idiot."[break][break]

He'd come from money, back when Galar was home and Merlino was not his last name. Yet Gavin was subtle in this respect, appreciating the finer things in life without painting a target on his back. This man, not so much.[break][break]

He does not even glance toward the Crobat, already having decided that it might be too suspicious. They were silent hunters that mostly stayed out of humans' way, even at night. On the other hand...[break][break]

Gavin's Lycanroc emerges, and he bends down to whisper something in her ear.[break][break]

Lycanroc takes off like a bullet, like she's spotted something to chase. She cuts directly in front of the target's path, barking all the while, drawing all attention to herself and away from the Rocket duo. The woman startles and instinctively draws closer to her date with the shock, both stopping momentarily to avoid tripping over the tangled mess of excited Lycanroc.

pulling the man towards him, he acts as if he's about to take a selfie. the charade gives him a bit more liberty in taking time to frame the picture. the rockruff has passed, and mister yoshida wraps an arm around the mystery woman. this time, the photo marcel takes is perfect. he checks it before sending it to his drive. the camera app opens again.

Gavin notices their target look up and directly at them, and thankfully possesses enough awareness to act naturally when Marcel slings an arm around him.[break][break]

He allows himself to be pulled in, smiling for the camera as he watches his Lycanroc in the distance, passing by the unfortunate couple and finding a sleepy flock of Taillow to dive toward and scatter.[break][break]

He hears the soft click of the shutter and relaxes his expression once the picture is taken, one hand sending a silent signal to his Lycanroc to keep her distance for now. He grins again, and this time it's with the genuine rush he gets from successful completion of a job — even one as relatively mundane as this.[break][break]

Marcel jokingly suggests a celebratory snap, and Gavin laughs. "Why the hell not?"
