The PK zones terrify him.[break][break]

It's just a video game and dying doesn't really matter, but he still finds himself on edge as he slinks through Valora. He's doing his best to avoid other players after previous bad experiences, but he really needs some of the drops from the mobs in this area in order to finish a quest that's been clogging up his log since he'd accepted it days ago.[break][break]

His new bow was less useful here with its rock-type ability, but he keeps it equipped on the off chance he runs into a fire or ice mage, or maybe a flying-type ranger, that wants him dead.[break][break]

Of course the second that thought enters his head, he spots a mage whose aesthetic screams fire, and the over-cautious ranger draws back his bow as the equipped arrow becomes encrusted in rock.[break][break]

"Not looking for a fight," he says carefully, "but don't expect an easy one if you attack me. I'm just here to farm mobs."

Stormy is not afraid of the PK zones, she'd just prefer to not get caught out alone. A solo-gamer at heart, it has been a real struggle so far in the game to have to rely on other people to take the aggro on mobs and other players. It was actually humiliating to die in two hits.[break][break]

So, like Orion, she had snuck past the edges of Valora in order to stay alive long enough to get to the training area, and when she sees someone else, she immediately throws out a party invite. She had learned it was a great defuser when it came to not getting jumped.[break][break]

Except, it appears she had been spotted first and he had already jumped to the defensive. His arrow aims at her chest and she raises a hand in some way to defuse the situation. He speaks and she gets the idea that he, like her, isn't looking for a fight.[break][break]

"Wow, me too. How about you stop pointing that at my face and call a truce, yeah?"

Her party request pops up in the corner of his screen rather than the center, for he'd moved his UI around in order to avoid being caught off guard in zones like these. Unfortunately, that had been a recent adjustment, and he keeps forgetting to look there.[break][break]

It's not until she retorts with a similar desire for peace that the ranger lowers his bow and spots the little red circle.[break][break]

Oops.[break][break]

"Shit, sorry, didn't see the request. I'm so used to everyone in these areas being out for blood."[break][break]

He accepts the party request, but he's only able to relax for a moment before a pair of Skarmory come screeching in from above.[break][break]

Swearing in surprise, he rolls out of the way of one's steel wings, pulling back a shot and managing to paralyze with a well-placed spark shot. Hex drains the rest of its health, and he catches his breath with heart pounding as he glances over to see if the mage was handling herself all right.

She squints, perhaps because she doesn't trust his response. Didn't see it? How? It pops up in the dead center of the screen like some kind of unwanted pop-up ad. It's probably gotten her killed more times than she could count.[break][break]

Regardless, the woman doesn't press the issue, instead relaxes a bit when he lowers his weapon. Of course, their relief is only short-lived when they're dropped on by a pair of angry Skarmory. They squawk and squeal, attempting to get in close to shred their avatars to ribbons. [break][break]

Fortunately, Stormy's reflexes are quick and she manages to melt the one coming at her with a powerful wave of MYSTICAL FIRE. The flames lick up the steel feathers of the bird and she hears it screams it explodes into a mess of pixelated particles.

The other Skarmory's scream is loud and horrific as the mystical fire melts it alive, and Orion's forced to once again remind himself that this is all a game, it isn't real, they just have really good sound design.[break][break]

He can't help but to admire the raw power of a mage, however.

"Shit, that was intense," he breathes, laughing to diffuse his self-inflicted tension. "Wish I could do something that flashy."
[break][break]
He's stuck with attacks based more on utility than flashing lights, and he demonstrates that utility as a Cufant charges him with its superpower. He allows the mob to crash into him, feeling no result of the impact thanks to his ghost-typing, then activates his mirror move to retaliate in kind. The super-effective attack downs the Cufant in one hit, though icons above Orion's health bar indicate his lowered attack and defense as a result.[break][break]

"Worth it," he insists.

Stormy chuckles at Orion's praise, lowering her wand. The fire from the tip of the weapon dies away to a soft ember, glowing in her hand. With the Skarmory defeated, there's only a moment between them to chat. It's then that the man's username strikes a thought - a recognition or something.[break][break]

"Just find a bow that shoots fire balls or something. Start hunting mini-bosses in the Ignis kingdom."[break][break]

Her suggestion is cut short when Orion takes down a raging Cufant. The Pokemon seems to run right through him, or stop at his chest as if he were made of steel. He takes no damage and quickly rectifies the situation by shooting the Pokemon with the same move he had just endured. [break][break]

Meanwhile, Stormy rinses and repeats the same tactics she had just used to take down the Skarmory. It seemed plenty of spawns were weak to her incredible fire-power. [break][break]

The MYSTICAL FIRE turns the Cufant to pixels, leaving behind only loot and promise of their last round of spawns.

The animations for the bow probably wouldn't look as cool and flashy thanks to most of them being tied to the arrow he shot, but even a flaming arrow would be pretty cool![break][break]
He makes a mental note to take her advice and train in the fiery kingdom, though they're quickly set upon by another pair of mobs and he has to shelve further thought in order to focus.[break][break]
