Emma had been assigned to help bring some of the newer Rocket grunts up to snuff. It seemed like a simple task other than the undeniable fact that there was a lot of young blood in the organization. This meant that any interaction with these teenagers could go poorly given their headstrong and rebellious instincts. She had been like them once upon a time, a ballsy, overzealous monster of a child hell-bent on doing whatever it is she wanted.[break][break]

But now that she had matured, gotten over her childish instincts, and smoothed over her bad habits in exchange for good ones, she had realized she had grown ill-tempered and impatient. She had no interest in training grunts who didn't care for the experience, who weren't here to support Rocket. Many of these kids were here for their own needs, she understood that. The temptation of Rocket's deep pockets was like a drug and they just kept coming back. But that only made them weaker if they weren't fighting for themselves, too.[break][break]

The Rocket woman stands on the top of Stern Hill, arms crossed over her chest, and eyes closed as she lets the wind pass over her face. She could already hear the girl approaching. This time, however, Emma glances over her shoulder to gaze upon the young woman approaching. She was older than the last, but barely.[break][break]

"You're late."

Ridiculous.
[break]It was ridiculous that any member of Rocket doubted her skills and questioned her capabilities. To have her tested by a more senior member... Yeah, right. As if she needed any of this. They were lucky that she enjoyed the money and entertainment that the organization provided. If it wasn't for that, Katherine would have chosen to leave and risk having them searching for her.

"But I look good."

A smirk finds its way, creeping to her expression without any care for how 'formal' this situation might have been. This was no different than a mission, sure, but Kat didn't care. Which wasn't all too out of the ordinary. "I doubt you had other things planned for today. You're being paid for this, aren't you?" A chuckle escapes her lips, the violet-haired woman can't help but wonder how much Emma was offered for doing this.

"..Anyway. A fight is a fight. I don't want to hear that I am being insubordinate again." A pair of pokeballs are retrieved, and their buttons are both simultaneously pressed together, allowing for a pair of pokemons to be revealed. A Garchomp and a Hatteerne.

Emma holds back the urge to roll her eyes at the girls attitude. She carries herself with a purpose, a distinction that she intends to make clear: she well and truly believes that she is superior. It just makes her look more incompetent. [break][break]

The woman is arrogant in her verbal approach and Emma studies her, picking out her insecurities. There was, after all, a reason she had come here today. She could have steered clear of the situation if she was so confident she was right. She wanted this.[break][break]

"Double for you. I can see why, now."[break][break]

This girl is a brat, her flippant attitude and her earlier comment about 'looking good' had made that abundantly clear. She could easily use these traits, her beauty, her allure, for the better of Rocket. Instead she is reckless and stupid, unable to take control of what she already possesses. It's disappointing.[break][break]

The grunt releases two Pokemon and Emma doesn't look at them because they aren't what she's worried about.[break][break]

"Have you ever stopped to consider that they're saying you're insubordinate for a reason? They don't use that term loosely."[break][break]

She releases two strong Pokemon - but it isn't about strength. It's about discipline and accuracy. Was she capable of controlling such powerful Pokemon?[break][break]

Emma, in turn, releases an Umbreon and Glaceon. They weave against each other like a mirror reflection, but they quickly leap forward to tackle their first danger - the Pokemon they immediately deduced would be the weaker link.[break][break]

They run as a unit, Umbreon lending his HELPING HAND to empower the Glaceon's fast-growing SHADOW BALL. The crackling bundle of energy is set free at the last moment, careening for the Hatterene.

If anyone ever broke down these news to Katherine, she'd laugh at their face. For her ego to be shattered... She'd need to be burned. She would need to crash and fail as terribly as one could. Her confidence destroyed, her perception of herself ruined-- all of that. But really, how likely was that to happen? Katherine was insubordinate. But she was also... Not bad at her job. And it's why she got away with it, time after time.

"Uh-huh. I like unusual combinations, what can I say?" That cheeky smile of hers refuses to fade from her expression, a reminder of her unusual cockiness persisting despite all the reasons she had to take this matter a bit more seriously.

"Garchomp. Rain fire." The wyvern-like pokemon doesn't offer any sort of gesture to confirm that he was following the order, but instead, he merely acts. His body is shrouded by a firey-orange aura, energy gathered for the move he knew Katherine was asking for. He looks up afterward, already shooting meteors toward the skies. His aim is far from precise. The entire battlefield will suffer the wrath of the showering meteors, and yet...

Katherine doesn't care. Hatterene couldn't be harmed by this move after all. "Maybe. But I am good at what I do. They need people who get jobs done, not people who can follow the rules." She was good enough for them to ignore how reckless she was, is what Kat meant.

"Dazzle, Dazzling Gleam." She intends to cover both fronts. Both Glaceon and Umbreon were going to be subjected to two attacks at once. That's what she meant by unusual combinations, wasn't it?

glaceon - snow cloak - hail, blizzard, ice beam, ice fang, shadow ball, mirror coat

umbreon - synchronize - helping hand, baton pass, quick attack, double-edge, bite, take down

Emma could distinctly see that the girl had potential - but it was overshadowed by her overconfidence and her self-absorbed personality. She's so hyper-focused on herself that she's overcompensating. That fact becomes distinct the moment she opens with such an intense move.[break][break]

The DRACO METEOR crashes all around them and Emma backs up further, intending to avoid being singed or burned by any crossfire. She's unimpressed because the woman is ruining something beautiful, putting on a show where she believes she is the star. This battle isn't about her showing off, it's about her learning humility and the strength in that.[break][break]

Fortunately, it appears that even in the mess of fire and brimstone, both of her Pokemon remain standing and virtually unscathed. The two of them had managed to navigate the meteors as they landed and had, in fact, found sanctuary behind them. With paw pads blistering under the heat, they manage to push through and hunker down behind them. They've become disguised, virtually disappeared on the battlefield.[break][break]

The DAZZLING GLEAM hits, but it won't show where they're hiding.[break][break]

"You think that you are you good. You aren't. You have a lot to learn, grunt."[break][break]

She scowls at her assumptions, because she is way off on her points. She's bragging, but she doesn't see that she's bragging about her negative traits.[break][break]

"Rocket needs people who get jobs done right. It doesn't matter if it's done if you're dead or compromised. You are a weak link, and sooner or later someone will get rid of you if you continue to fall behind."[break][break]

The longer Emma talks, the longer she keeps the battle in her favor. The wind has picked up unexpectedly, starting off slow before becoming nearly unbearably cold. The flames die as a powerful HAIL begins. The ice pellets sting her exposed skin but she remains unphased. As time goes on, the grass freezes.[break][break]

And in the haze of confusion, in the invisibility of the hail, the Glaceon continues to melt into the background unnoticed. Umbreon does the same but is more careful, mindful of his paw steps and careful to hide in the shadows of the smouldering meteors.[break][break]

When he springs, he springs with purpose, coming up from behind to grab the Hatterene in his BITE.[break][break]

"You possess no restraint, no humility. You are weak and you try to disguise it with overconfidence and arrogance. That is not what Rocket needs. You are not what Rocket needs.

Katherine will have to be shown whatever strength there is in humility before believing such a thing truly exists.

Where Emma saw the beginning of the fight in its destruction and the lack of care Katherine had for the hill, the other rocket found the raining meteors to be far more beautiful. Pretty enough to ignore whatever destruction the hill would have to face. She was careless. Perhaps even to a fault. She is a star, this is her stage, and the world is one big play. Or at least that's what some claimed.

"I am waiting, you know. When do you plan to start teaching?"
[break][break]
She jests, clearly enjoying her time. And despite the rain of meteors having finished, Katherine doesn't order Garchomp or Hatterene to do something just yet. She does assess the situation before her. Despite how unrestrained and reckless Katherine might have seemed, she was no fool. "Protect her." The tone lacks her usual excitement, if only because she was more focused now.

It was hard to plan your next move without seeing anything.
[break][break]
"Dazzle, sing for them." The dual-type opens her lips and closes her eyes, beginning to sing softly. The witch-like pokemon even twirls in place, allowing this to become some type of a performance as well. Katherine, however, simply waits. One of them is bound to show up. In the meantime, she continues to sing, directing a beam of purple hearts as she spins-- all with the intent of shattering as much as possible from the approaching ice.

It helps with some, but not all. Both Garchomp and Hatterene are pelted by some of the ice that manages to slip by, but their guard is not let down. Hatterene is the first to notice the approaching Umbreon, if only due to the fact that sensing the presence of others came to her naturally. Her ability, ANTICIPATION comes into play, warning her from Umbreon and its bite.

The singing halts, and she turns-- allowing the dragon-type to replace her as soon as it catches up. "Dragon Rush, Garchomp." Another aura begins to envelop and shroud the wyvern-like pokemon, as it waits for the Umbreon to attack. It is bitten first, damaged by the pokemon's BITE. His own ability, ROUGH SKIN, activates as well. It damages the Umbreon in return, just before they're charged at by Garchmop.

The force of the move might even cause the dark-type to flinch, if luck plays to Katherine's side, "I am loud, abrasive, and kind of a bitch. Do you think I don't know that already? But please, make no mistake. I am not like those other grunts."

It wasn't just cockiness speaking now, was it?

garchomp is using dragon rush / hatterene is using disarming voice but kind of not aiming anywhere except for the ice.

Emma's exasperated - she doesn't show it and it's impossible to see her face given how terrible the HAIL has become, but she's silently wishing she had the power to smite this girl where she stood. There was a severe misunderstanding between them, a lack of training and discipline. Katherine was a liability.[break][break]

Katherine's words become lost in the storm, as does Emma herself. In the blizzard, Emma begins her approach - the second test. Her Pokemon were preoccupied with her own and, evidently, performed best when personally directed. Her own had been performing alone and without instruction.[break][break]

Of course, the two evolution Pokemon were not her strongest companions, in fact, she had been considering them disposable. They were nowhere near the strength of her Lycanroc or Noivern. This was a test for them, as well. So far, she had been impressed by neither party.[break][break]

Umbreon is caught off guard by the interference of the Garchomp. His teeth sink into ROUGH SKIN, damaging his mouth and his concentration. However, he makes use of his energy and moves faster than his opponent just long enough to BATON PASS his speed to aid his companion. [break][break]

In the confusion and while being beaten back and forth by the DISARMING VOICE and DRAGON RUSH, Umbreon is the distraction. He stumbles to the side, injured, but it's the opening that Glaceon needed. The Pokemon reappears through the storm, blasting the Garchomp at what could be assumed was point blank range with an ICE BEAM. Umbreon is unable to follow up due to his FLINCH, but Glaceon doesn't need his help at the moment.[break][break]

The moment her ICE BEAM ends, her fangs remain ice cold as she intends to sink them deep in the Garchomp's ROUGH SKIN, regardless of the damage it will deal her.[break][break]

And, as tooth and claw connect in a struggle, Emma has reappeared next to Katherine to sweep the leg and knock her on her rear. What would happen if her master was incapacitated?

There's too much fun in a normal battle for Katherine to feel overwhelmed, even when beaten or bested. It was rare of course, for her to lose or mess up... But even then. She found it to be entertaining. The attitude of an entitled brat who refused to acknowledge any of their weaknesses. It was no surprise that people found her to be so aggravating.

The storm becomes harsher with each passing moment, making it only harder for Katherine to see through the thick veil of snow that obscured the battlefield. Annoying. If her Honchkrow was here, she could have dealt with it easily... Alas, she has to adapt. It was part of the game.
[break][break]
Umbreon is blasted by both of the attacks Katherine issued, and the confirmation of such comes from his cry. Success. Alas, Hatterene's ability doesn't warn the dual-type fast enough of the ice beam that is shot at Garchomp. He is hit by it as one would expect, earning a loud, painful roar that emits from the dragon's mouth. Emma knew what she was doing, just as Katherine did.

"Don't let that ruin your flow! Hatterene, dazzling gleam again!" Blinding her opponents might be less effective right now, but damaging the both of them at once would prove to be useful. Especially considering the Umbreon's injured state. "Garchomp-- RAIN FIRE! Again!" The same tactic as the one she started the fight with.

But before she is able to witness if such attacks are performed-- the more senior rocket appears, sweeping her leg and easily knocking her down. "What-" Lavender eyes find her target, the Wolfe. "Really? Do you doubt your pokemon's abilities?" The teasing is unlikely to stop. Now, tomorrow, ever.[break]
Kat hisses a curse under her breath, rising to a stand quickly. "..Fine then. Have it your way!" She doesn't approach Emma just yet, but instead, she waits for the other Rocketess to do so. She knows she's coming this time.

The other side of the battlefield is currently under an assault of shimmering light, and meteors that begin to descend from above. Garchomp, however, seems to barely stand. It appeared as if the lightest of touches would cause the dragon-type to succumb to his injuries.

She can hear the wind fill the void where the girls body once stood. Katherine hits the ground with a resounding thud, and she hears the air expel from her lungs at the impact. Even still, the humiliation doesn't reach her. She's been bested, beaten, and yet she gets back on her feet and comes up with something snarky to say. [break][break]

"No, but you do. That's why you haven't stopped giving them orders."[break][break]

Emma speaks flatly, no real emphasis on her phrasing. She's boring in her insults because she doesn't need to add flair. She knows her words will hurt the way she intends them to.[break][break]

She watches with indifference as the purple-haired woman gets to her feet and scrambles backward and away from her. She's afraid.[break][break]

And that's why she doesn't advance on her. There's a void between them and Emma doesn't breach it just yet - she's waiting for Katherine to do what she's bound to do, overreact and do something stupid. [break][break]

In the background, the Umbreon has hopefully managed to pull himself off the ground fast enough to QUICK ATTACK, prioritizing his speed over the lumbering Garchomp's to prevent him from finishing his second round of DRAGO METEOR. Glaceon manages to melt back into the snow and ice, conjuring and intense BLIZZARD that only worsens the HAIL.[break][break]

The snow grows so cold and dense that even Emma's dark appearance is nearly lost in the blustering snow. She uses this cover to advance and retreat, to intimidate the trainee and scare her.

It's not precisely the way Katherine imagined this fight would be. Whoever Emma was, she rose above the low expectations the rocket grunt set for her.

"Is that your official review, professor?" The basic insult earns a scoff from the purple-haired woman, who can't help but roll her eyes even as the Wolfe is swallowed by the storm once more. There she goes, disappearing from view. It was a smart idea. One Katherine might even have to consider using in the future... That must have meant that she learned <i>something</i> today. Cheating is fine, and keeping a storm around you to surprise someone is even better.

If she didn't expect this... Then a member of the league certainly wouldn't either.

Only a couple of meteors manage to escape from the Garchomp's lips before the Umbreon's QUICK ATTACK connects, once more inflicting damage both to the dragon-type and the pokemon who assaulted him. This time, however, it brings him down. Hopefully, with the combined efforts of the meteors launched and Hatterene's blinding light, it might take the dark-type down as well.

Katherine's other partner is left to their own devices, opting to use HEAL PULSE, allowing a psychical surge to heal her of any injuries, including the ones inflicted by the storm. "..Not bad, not bad. You took Garchomp down." It was an accomplishment, one Katherine felt worth complimenting. Despite the fact that she was the one being given a lesson here.

"We can make this more official next time, if you'd like." Garchomp is sent back to his pokeball whereas another is retrieved to call out a different psychic type, Kat's Gallade. He offers her a knowing nod before teleporting Hatterene, Katherine and himself away.
