It didn’t take too long for him to run into a familiar sight—unfortunately, he already had a fully-evolved version of this one and her name was Guinevere.

Well then… he thought, quickly releasing his Gardevoir, Lynette, to handle the situation. “Don’t go overboard, okay? I trust you to handle this calmly,” and with that the Gardevoir then prepared herself with a steady stance, activating Calm Mind while never taking her gaze off the Combusken.

Incensed at the lack of action, the literal ‘flaming chicken’ then prepped with a Bulk Up not once, but twice in an attempt to intimidate the Gardevoir with its sudden mass and growth—but she was not amused. Shrieking all manner of murder at the dual-type, said Combusken rushed forward with a Flame Charge attack!

A second Calm Mind swept through the clearing, heightening the Gardevoir’s focus, and while she was disadvantaged and did not have Teleport, she had something else that proved to be a challenge for the chicken—a Double Team dodge maneuver!

Instead of landing on the Gardevoir’s hitbox, the Combusken ended up rushing through thin air—before a powerful blast of rainbow-colored energy knocked it upside the head and sent it further away from where they stood. The Gardevoir’s eyes were glowing from the remnants of a Psychic attack, and she was pissed.

Lars could only let out a sigh at the next one he encountered—he was pretty sure there was something going on that was causing chance and luck to go all bananas the moment he spotted the Scraggy.

“Well, it’s definitely not mine, that’s for sure,” he remarked in Lynette’s direction, who gave him a confused look. “Be careful. Your attacks aren’t going to harm that one… it’s a mixed-typing.”

That was at least what he knew, not having the energy to consult his Pokégear right away to confirm this. The Scraggy caught sight of them, and scampered off in another direction the moment the Gardevoir turned her eye on it.

“Come on, let’s keep going.”

By this point he was wondering if he could be able to find anything of interest—most of what he was looking for at this point was highly specialized and specific.

I got lucky on the most part, thank Arceus, he thought as a Meditite wandered into range. Spotting the Gardevoir, it then launched herself at the dual-type with a High Jump Kick attack, screaming all the way. “What the hell?!” he exclaimed as he watched the smaller Pokémon clearly miss the Gardevoir and hit a rock behind them instead.

Groaning, Lars could only rub his hands against his forehead in frustration. Sighing, he then nodded in the Gardevoir’s direction. “Alright, alright, it’s high time we looked for something new to join our family anyway,” he said as he gestured to his companion to do what she wanted.

“Just don’t use any of your Psychic-type attacks. Magical Leaf would work,” he added. By this time the Meditite had recovered and was now charging at them with an Ice Punch attack—wait, what?

That’s not… normal. Alright, good call, he thought as the Gardevoir dodged out of the way with an illusory Double Team, before flinging a Magical Leaf attack at the incoming Pokémon. Screeching as it got caught in the haze, a second Magical Leaf attack, and a third pelted around it.

Another attempt at Ice Punch was made; before two more Magical Leaf attacks finally did the Meditite in.

“Okay, how the hell did this go again,” he chuckled as he pulled out an empty Pokéball before throwing it at the passed-out Meditite.
