He may have been a little later than normal to get into the Safari, but once he saw just what was being offered, he decided, ‘eh, why not go in for the hell of it?’.

Once he’d slid the paper bills across the table and received the four Safari Balls in turn, he then turned over to the guard in-charge at the gate and went through normal security measures.

After that was done, he was allowed entry into the Safari Zone.

Now the question here was…

…how long was he going to be in here? He had no idea, to be quite honest.

The first thing he encounters and it’s something he already has the full-grown version of.

A smirk flashes across his face as he’s reminded of Wukong, silly jackass of a Pokémon that he is, who’s probably itching for a fight right about now. Smirking, he pulled out a containment unit and threw it forward, watching as Ryujin scored a four point landing on her belly and legs.

“I know I owe you. Feel free. But don’t strike until the time is right, okay?” he said in the female Swampert’s direction, who stood her ground as the Chimchar came charging in, its fists crackling with electricity. The simian Pokémon thought a Thunder Punch was going to hurt the Swampert—oh, how wrong it was!

The Swampert merely gave the Chimchar her best impression of a ‘stink eye’ as the Fire-type rebounded away, shocked that its attempt to slug the obviously-Water type hadn’t gone so well. Two Nasty Plots and three more Thunder Punch attempts later, the Chimchar is furious.

Letting out angry screeching noises, the Swampert holds her ground and waits until the fifth attempt at a Thunder Punch barely even phases her—before lashing out with a well-timed, point-blank Hydro Pump to the face.

A loud screeching noise echoes from the Chimchar as it’s knocked into the next area due to the staggering force of the Water-type attack.

“Well then,” he said with a chuckle as the two went on their way.

The second Pokémon of the day was… something he didn’t particularly care for. The confused-looking Psyduck was waddling around, looking for a body of water to return to.

“No, it’s not here,” he said in the Water-type’s direction, startling it. As the Swampert moved in to attack, Lars shook his head.

“No, leave it alone. I don’t want to be responsible for the death of something so lost and confused. Yes, I know it’s irrational, but hear me out here, Ryujin. We’re going to attack the next thing we find, alright? Let’s go.”

With that the two turned tail and left the Psyduck alone.

It was pure luck he had Ryujin out, because the next target was something he was… somewhat familiar with. While he had the evolved form in Zeis, seeing a Scizor’s pre-evolution form was something that made him stop and wonder for a few moments.

Annoyingly, the Pokémon then homed in on the Swampert, getting ready with a Laser Focus of all things. A few moments later a powerful burst of air ripped through the clearing, resulting in an Air Slash maneuver aimed at the Swampert!

“Dodge!” he called out, and the Swampert barrel-rolled to the side as the attack came whistling through the air. A few moments later the Scyther attempted to close the distance by coming in with a Fury Cutter attack—however he was ready.

“Rock Slide, now! Trap it!” he called out, and a sudden burst of boulders of varying sizes and shapes began to rain down on the hyperfixated Scyther, who let out a screech of surprise as the cavalcade of rocks began pelting it from multiple directions. Several boulders caught its wing and face, before it let out a displeased yowl and passing out.

“Well…” he mumbled, before nodding in the Swampert’s direction and moving further in.

The next Pokémon Lars encountered was something he wasn’t looking for either.

Wait, since when had he gotten so picky with his Pokémon choices? Taking a peek at his PokéGear, he realized that he was down to several choices, none of which he had spotted so far. He wondered if the place had something out against him because he kept avoiding them like the plague.

Either way, the moment the Swampert spotted the Tyrogue, she looked at him for confirmation.

“One shot, okay? You get one shot. Now get to it,” he replied as he stepped back enough to let them battle. The Tyrogue then prepared itself with a Focus Energy, bracing itself for what was to come. A Mind Reader status change followed right after.

All this while the Swampert was eyeing the Tyrogue seedily. Once the Fighting-type had charged forward with an attempt at Close Combat, the Swampert reared up and slammed both her fists down onto the ground.

Even Lars wasn’t prepared for the sudden, violent Earthquake that shook through the area. It definitely knocked the Tyrogue off-balance before eventually knocking it out due to the force of the attack.

“Yikes,” was all he could say before heading deeper into the Safari Zone with the Swampert, smug-ass look on her face.

This time, though, the bushes started wiggling and the Swampert shot off to investigate what the hell was going on there. “Ryujin! Hey! Don’t leave… me,” he ended with a grumble and a sigh as the Swampert had gone off to check what the hell had caught her attention.

Deciding that there would be some need for help, he summoned out Altaria, the sweet fluffy cloud who hummed the moment she was released from the confines of her containment unit. “Nami. Can you see what the hell Ryujin’s up to?”

A delighted hum in response before the Altaria flies off to search for the Swampert. Little does she know that the Swampert is currently locked in combat with a Sobble, exchanging blows between the smaller, but much faster Water-type.

The Sobble fires off a salvo of Ice Shards, catching the Swampert by surprise and causing her to back away. In retaliation, a Rock Slide salvo rains down all around the Sobble—letting out a screech before charging forward in a powerful Liquidation attack. Another Rock Slide shakes the clearing, and it’s this scene the Altaria discovers—the two Water-types locked in what appears to be mortal combat.

Quickly flying back to where Lars is, she dragged the other along—until they arrive at the scene. The Swampert had just finished sending a powerful Earthquake through the area, and the place was in danger of becoming a sink hole due to the debris scattered all around.

Atop one of the piles of rocks is a passed-out Sobble.

“Seriously?” was all he could say, unimpressed as he threw the first of the four Safari Balls at the passed-out Water-type.

“Anyway, you’ve done a lot today… you want to continue looking around or should I send someone else out to accompany me in the meantime? You look like you want to take a rest or something,” he said in the Swampert’s direction.

While waiting for an answer, he didn’t notice that there was something headed his way—the exact reason why he had come out here in the first place. Lars had probably a few seconds to react before the Swampert leapt backward and suddenly spat out a powerful vortex of water…

“WHOA! What the hell?!” he yelped as he leapt to one side—instead of getting drenched, the Whirlpool smacked the incoming Dreepy around for a few moments before said Dreepy retaliated with a Disable status change of its own. However, the Whirlpool simply… kept on spinning.

Which was a good thing, considering how many turns a Whirlpool would endure before it would collapse into nothingness. As the Dreepy was revealed, the Swampert then attempted to inundate it with a Hydro Pump attack, giving the small dual-type little time to get out of the way before it was blasted with another powerful burst of water at close range.

“Whoa, calm down, you—“ he trailed off before the Dreepy retaliated with a Dragon Rush attempt, trying to fight off the powerful burst of water. It was too much though, considering the Dreepy’s minuscule size, and it eventually floated down close to where Lars stood.

“Heh, nice,” he remarked as he dropped the second Safari Ball atop the Dreepy’s head.
