Lying to the Head Ranger in order to poach a hidden gem? Check.

Exploiting the narrow world view of some kid who doesn't know how the world works outside of a laboratory? Check.

It had taken a great deal of effort to formalize the creation of his own squadron. His intention from the start was to fix what Fernando saw as a fundamental flaw within the League. Failure upon failure could be attributed to the wrong method of approaching and handling situations. What the League needs most is capable trainers such as cait alfric who were willing to do whatever it takes in order to get the job done.

Which is precisely why he's already set up Iris to transfer to his jurisdiction. Admittedly, their little interaction had perked his interest but that alone had not been enough to deem her a viable candidate. It is both her history and current treatment that makes her a prime sample for his second League pet project.

Instructions for her to meet him have already been drafted and set as her next assignment. Fernando awaits by the League training grounds with several belts of Pokeballs strapped to his waist. He has a small, pocket notebook in his hands and continues to jot down notes while waiting for his newest pupil.

[attr="class","ithread"]it doesn't take long to find out about fernando silph, but perhaps it's this very fame which makes her sceptical to whatever she hears. the rangers are happy to oblige to her questions--while she can fault them for many things, they have admittedly been nothing but welcoming--and her work simply lies in filtering out opinion from fact.

but apart from that half-hearted investigation, the name fernando silph had scarcely crossed her mind. it's only when she receives her assignment that she realises how far back it'd been buried.

less ignorant than she'd been during their first meeting, iris makes sure to lower the guarded front, shaping it into something more obedient. "mister silph." though she asks no questions, her eyes drift to the objects on his person: restrained curiosity.

"Is this the formation rangers take during their travels?" He says it in jest but Fernando wants her to keep pace. "Partners walk in tandem," he correct but his purpose is no where close to that line of thinking. He wants to keep an eye on her, able to view her reaction and gauge where she stands.

"sorry." she quickens her pace to catch up, eventually evening it out to match fernando's. risking a glance up at his face to gauge how deep his disapproval ran, she soon finds herself reassured and returns her gaze forward. not a large issue, then.

His tone doesn't change; always a flat-line that self caters to Fernando's lack of emotional investment. Strict and serious make up his image and that's the truest rendition of his personality the League has yet to assess.

"i was too focused on the task i'd been given." the contest had taken up most of her energy--the performance, the crowd--and so she hadn't even thought to consider there may have been a threat nearby. in letting the ranger's assignment consume her, iris had inadvertently let her guard down.

while she may not have been able to stop the attackers regardless, iris feels the certainty of a defeat is easier to stomach than a what-if. besides, she had been lucky this time, to have escaped unharmed.

Fernando has to adjust quickly. He doesn't realize they're following different meanings until the pieces fall into place. "I mean if you were in the basement instead of Ranger Adachi." As far as he knows, Iris hadn't been among those who were present during the infiltration of the Contest Hall's basement. As to what assignment she was assigned to, he remains clueless, unless he's wrong.

Unlikely, but entirely possible.
