“Sometimes, even the League can be short-handed when it comes to manpower,” he said to his companion, one charming Miss Iris. “Now happened to be one of those times.”

He hadn’t yet told her about how little Rangers normally made in their line of work, but then again who was he to disclose this information? Either way, getting pulled into other jobs (at least in his case) was part of the routine.

“Do you notice anything strange about the crowd? I reckon you do have an eye for picking certain things out that anyone else would normally miss.”

He was referencing the way she had found the two women the last time with just a simple glance. It really did help to have a fresh set of eyes out and about during this particular situation.

Looking over from the top of the shades he’s wearing, Lars lowered them for a bit and gave her a knowing look. “No wonder they wanted more security at this place, I mean look at it—“

He tilted his head in a certain direction before his eyes swept through the crowd. “It’s a bleeding mess, honestly. Normal security wasn’t enough, apparently.”

He then took a look at the flyer he had in his hands for the match they were supposed to keep an eye on—involving some fighter returning from a hiatus and destined to meet their rival in the ring. Such crazy stories one came up with when it came to sports.

“Keep your eyes peeled for anything you notice. You mind if I pick your brain after we’re done here? I have a few questions I’d like to ask you. Nothing too harmless, really.”

“Also, no need to be so formal with me even if we’re not at the Headquarters,” he added with a friendly eyebrow crinkle.

“I’d like to at the very least have some level of familiarity between everyone. Of course, when its business in the Headquarters we’d do well to follow that,” he tacked on a few moments later as he raised his shades back up and continued to observe the crowd.

So far, there was nothing too unusual going on, except the crowd’s noise level was getting to the point it was almost unbearable. As he looked around, he caught sight of a flash of movement—only to realize that it was said fighter returning to the ring, flocked by their entourage.

Tick, tock.

[attr="class","ithread"]iris doesn't understand mentalities like the one anderson is voicing. she lets her boundaries set, constant, but since joining the league she's grown accustomed to leniency. casualness. "okay." it would do her better to blend in with the rangers--she's one of them now, she supposes.

she turns back to the fight, taking some interest. it was like before, when she observed, trained, pokemon. she couldn't say those battles had been less violent than the one before her.

Another loud round of cheering shook the arena, and this time the opponent came sauntering into the ring, ready to tussle and fight. In next to no time the two fighters were in the ring, and the racket reached a near-unbearable din.

Now that most of, if not all the crowd was distracted, he turned to face her.

“Honestly, I don’t understand why everyone gets pleasure of bashing each other’s face in,” he muttered quietly as he looked around. While they had a rather sweeping view of the arena, it was rather hard picking out any suspicious behavior.

Would this mission go down without any problems?

"people like to feel powerful." that's all this was, really: the thrill of a fight, the rush of a victory. somehow, it reminds iris of her old life. she supposes anderson has a similarly negative attitude when it came to that, too.

“I mean, sure, they get the thrill now, but what about later down the road? Don’t they get tired of this at some point?” he continued quietly as the crowd’s uproar reached another fever pitch. Honestly, the way the crowd was reacting was making his ears throb and his eyes water.

Ah, the pains one had to endure all in the name of working with the League. At least they hadn’t found anything too suspicious yet, right? Casting his gaze around further, he continued to ponder about things.

“Did you—did you do this a lot? Before?” he inquired presently. “I mean… having to do what they’re doing in the ring.”
