The feeling is mutual and it comes as no surprise that Bronwen swaps out her Pokemon for something more suitable. To the average viewer, a battle plagued with switches may seem anti-climatic, but between two veterans, setting the pace is imperative to controlling the flow of battle. However, even switching has its weaknesses.

In the time it takes for the Pokemon to return and for another to take its place, the opponent has already used the momentary break to adjust. Quagsire knows to expect something else and uses the opportunity to anticipate an attack. It may not be the most mobile but going prone puts it in a better place than having to waddle on two feet. It also allows the Pokemon to move closer to the center of the arena, granting it more options as to where to maneuver.

But all of this is a moot point in the face of Bronwen's PETAL DANCE. The wide range attack liters the field with a stream of projectiles and the Quagsire does its best to evade the initial burst by circling around the Gloom. Naturally, it proves too slow, clipped by a majority of the attack. However, any diverted damage is considered a win because as painful as it may be, all of that is soon forgotten due to Quagsire's AMNESIA. It's a temporary band-aid used to wait for a better opportunity.

The downfall of AMNESIA is that the Pokemon may forget the pain but its body does not. Apply enough wear and tear and the body will give up, even if it's against the Pokemon's will. That's why they continue to tango until the PETAL DANCE ends. Only then will the Quagsire try to hastily patch up its wounds with RECOVER.

The petal dance is successful, for now. It is, after all, only a matter of time before the move becomes a hindrance. Stormy has seen the fatal flaw of the move, the confusion that comes out of it.[break][break]

But it's worth the risk, perhaps, if it means eliminating the Quagsire. The Pokemon is a threat to Stormy's typical team. It is fortunate that she has branched out from her typical realm of expertise. All the better to keep her opponents on their toes.[break][break]

The PETAL DANCE continues a while longer, the Gloom spinning and spinning and spinning with the damage-inducing tactic. As she comes to a halt, however, it is clear that her gaze is skewed and dizzy CONFUSION takes over her senses. While the Quagsire means to RECOVER, however, Stormy orders something to counteract that.[break][break]

Of course, this would be a matter of luck. There was a significant change Gloom would execute the move without a problem.. but luck was not always on Stormy's side. Pure, dumb luck, maybe, the kind of luck that's kept her alive and not melted to nothing in the bottom of Mt. Chimney or Mt. Pyre.[break][break]

[attr="class","spiral"]There's no escaping the STUN SPORE. As sure as the Quagsire needs to breath, so will the attack prove effective. Each little spore that makes it past the Pokemon's nostrils will induce an immediate effect of causing its muscles to spasm. Paralysis isn't always reliable but the loss of control can prove disastrous.

"RAIN DANCE."

The potential loss of his Quagsire is tremendous. Even if the Gloom doesn't knock it out, the fact that it's paralyzed means it's no longer reliable. Fernando can only salvage what's left of it by setting up for his contingency plan. Presuming the worst, he unclasps the Quagsire's pokeball from his belt, fully intending to return it should the situation continue to worsen.

Stormy watches as the Quagsire's movements slow to a crawl. While not fully paralysed, the threat of complete muscle shutdown is evident. And she plans to use that to her advantage as best she can.[break][break]

While RAIN begins to pour from the sky, thoroughly drenching everyone on the field - Stormy included, the woman wipes hair from her eyes and prepares.[break][break]

"Keep up the petal dance, Gloom."[break][break]

It's risky, but the rain seems to at least boost the gloomy Pokemon's mood. A gloomy day made a Gloom pretty happy.[break][break]

So she attempts another PETAL DANCE, adding to her dizziness but spraying more gross pollen everywhere.[break][break]

[attr="class","spiral"]And in the heat of battle an opening presents itself. Despite working itself into a tizzy, the PETAL DANCE proves vast enough to sweep the Quagsire up by coincidence. The wind down that comes after is where Fernando's looking to recall his Pokemon, swapping it out for his ace in the hole.

His Tapu Fini takes center stage and the constant downpour downplays the Pokemon's magnificent sheen. Under the darkened clouds, the black shell fits the foreboding promise of the storm to come.

"Dominate."

There's no need to instruct a Legendary Pokemon on how to battle. No matter what measures Bronwen has in place, unless she utilizes some niche techniques, Fernando has full confidence that the Pokemon will be able to overcome it with sheer force. As sure as the MISTY TERRAIN starts to bleed in, the game shifts to a war of attrition with Tapu Fini holding the most power.

For a moment, Tapu Fini's expression matches Fernando's signature glare, pointing its hand toward the Gloom as a BLIZZARD erupts from the depths of the Pokemon's shell.

Where once she might have the upper hand, Fernando reveals his veiled threat. The Quagsire is returned and there's a prickle of dread as the man's Tapu Fini appears in its place. A misty terrain seeps from its body as it looms over the dazed Gloom.[break][break]

On Fernando's order there is no stopping Tapu Fini. The BLIZZARD freezes Gloom where she stands. Stormy gasps in spite of herself, perhaps in awe and in fear of such a powerful opponent.[break][break]

But she returns the Gloom and contemplates who to send out to match up with Fernando's final Pokemon. She has most of her arsenal still strong - mostly. They were winded and Tapu didn't seem the least bit phased. Perhaps this is the first time he's seen the tournament.[break][break]

She settles on her Aegislash, the ball fastened between damp fingers. When the sword and shield appears, Stormy grits her teeth.[break][break]

Aegislash wastes no time in performing a DESTINY BOND, sealing both of their fates on the battlefield.

[attr="class","spiral"]Now this is a pickle. Fernando recognizes the DESTINY BOND, having both an Aegislash and multiple Pokemon with the same technique. The only issue is how to deal with it. For now, he'll press onward until he sees a chance.

"Take it slow," is enough of a warning to prevent his Tapu Fini from attacking outright. Instead, it uses CALM MIND to analyze the situation, trying to understand why Fernando had instructed it otherwise.

Silently, Fernando mentally counts for himself, trying to offhand count down the time until the technique wears off.

She chuckles. The best option is to be aggressive now, to force Fernando to defend itself. It was an excellent way to tire it out, to exhaust itself as it attempts to not land a critical blow. She only had so much time, but she was going to use every shred of it.[break][break]

"Get in there, Aegislash!"[break][break]

The Pokemon performs a brief but effective SWORDS DANCE as it closes the distance.

His Tapu Fini might not be the fastest Pokemon but it continues to recline as the opponent presses forward. It lines up a clean shot, straight for the incoming Aegislash, and fires a burst of NATURE'S MADNESS.

She doesn't expect it. She doesn't expect anything anymore with Fernando. He's unreadable and unavoidable - the only thing she can do is stay alert.[break][break]

But her intention is not to dodge the incoming attacks. So when the NATURE'S MADNESS approaches, Aegislash takes it. It halves his strength, and it's only a small surprise. Stormy has never encountered such a powerful move - but it's nothing she can't figure out.[break][break]

"Sacred sword."[break][break]

Thanks to the Pokemon's NO GUARD, the attack would be successful unless Tapu Fini had something to counter it. It didn't really matter either way.

The SACRED SWORD comes down and clangs against the shield, shattering it when the attack reflects across its surface. Up close, the Tapu Fini fires off a point blank NATURE'S MADNESS.

The PROTECT breaks on impact, Aegislash bouncing off of the display harmlessly. It doesn't hesitate, however, not when Stormy remains focused and passionate. She could do this. She could overcome this obstacle.[break][break]

Once again, Aegislash takes the NATURE'S MADNESS DIRECTLY. But it pushes through as it, unfazed, coming at the legendary again with another SACRED SWORD. There was no room for hesitation. He knew his duty, and he would serve it.

DESTINY BOND should have worn off by now and Fernando relies on that for the killing blow. The SACRED SWORD makes its mark against the Tapu Fini's shell, leaving obvious dent marks, but the fighting type move proves less effective against the Legendary fairy. In response, the Tapu Fini opens its arms to let out a furious a surge of SURF, looking to push the Pokemon back in a torrent of concentrated water.

The DESTINY BOND fades, the thinly veiled promise falling to pieces. And with it, Stormy's chance at winning - for now.[break][break]

Aegislash's SACRED SWORD does diddly squat - an oversight. What matters is that the Pokemon is able to be hit. Tapu Fini's surge of SURF is incredibly strong, strong enough to reach Stormy's ankles as it washes off the side of the mountain.[break][break]

But the ghost-type Pokemon himself is unaffected. His body is cast in iron, protected by his KINGS SHIELD. He parts the hypothetical sea as water drips off of his impervious surface.

[attr="class","spiral"]What water fails to wash away shall be encased in ice for eternity. The moment the SURF subsides the Tapu Fini prepares another attack. Stormy isn't the only one with an Aegislash. In fact, Fernando has several. KING'S SHIELD is the obvious move when faced with an inevitable attack and most straight forward answer is to immediate attack again right after it wears off. There's a chance it'll work again but Tapu Fini's willing to hedge on that bet.

The presence of water makes it much easier to drop the temperature. It turns to ice as the BLIZZARD spews forth from the nothingness that is Tapu Fini's shell.
