Hailing from the rural outskirts of Oldale Town, Colt Steele is the sole owner and operator of Horse Lovers Ranch, a place where horse pokemon and lovers of horse pokemon can be themselves. As a boy, Colt spent every waking moment with his Ponyta, feeding him, cleaning up after him, playing with him, and just doing life together. They explored the countryside together, foraging for wild berries and drinking from the cool streams. They delved into mysterious caverns, darted between exquisite treelines, and camped under the stars on cool autumn nights, lying together for warmth and comfort.
[break][break]Then, one day, as they were wrestling in the field near his home, Ponyta began to shimmer with the glow of evolution. Colt's parents had run a quaint, self sustaining farm from which Colt had never ventured, besides into the local wilderness. But unbeknownst to him, his parents harbored a strange religious belief that pokemon evolution was an unnatural abomination. They prevented evolution of the pokemon that worked their farm, and sheltered Colt from knowledge of this simple fact of poke-biology.
[break][break]When Ponyta began to glow and change as they wrestled, Colt had no idea what was happening, and he began to struggle more violently, fearful that he was losing control of his best friend. The resulting pressure and force caused Ponyta to become overwhelmed during its critical changes, and it emerged from the light of evolution bearing strange deformations and wheezing in immense pain and discomfort. Its body had been contorted beyond repair, and every breath it took was a labor of incurable agony. His father emerged from their home and handed him a strange barreled device. [break]He put one hand on Colt's shoulder reassuringly and spoke softly, "You see how much pain it's in, son?" Colt sobbed and nodded. [break] "Isn't it unbearable?"
[break] Colt shivered as tears rolled down his face. [break] His father wrapped Colt's fingers along the breadth of the weapon and rested his trigger finger gently over Colt's. [break] "It won't be hurting any longer." [break] [break] Now, with his parents long passed, Colt runs a humane ranch that allows horse pokemon to flourish and evolve as they please. He offers rides, tours, lessons, and is even accepting new members to come live side by side with his burgeoning community.
