Claydol (Levitate): Psychic | Teleport | Explosion | Power Split | Earth Power | Cosmic Power

Remiel had invited Marcel to his usual stomping grounds several days ago. The route connecting Fallabor Town and Meteor Falls was a strange place, ripe with archaeological finds and fossil excavations. More notably, however, the pokémon here possessed a strange and mysterious quality to them. As of late, the Dark-types in the territory had been reported to come out of the woodwork in droves. Remiel had reason to believe this was for unnatural reasons. He cared to investigate.

He'd designated an abandoned research outpost at the edge of Route 114 as their meeting point. The accommodations there consisted of a torn-up and barely held together dome tent, a few battered and broken plastic tables, and some gurneys. The black-haired royal sat upon one of the latter, smoking a cigarette he was half-finished with. Aside from hearing what he presumed to be Marcel approaching, he also perceived to feel a pair of eyes staring at the back of his head from the forest.

Hammurabi, his Claydol, floated high above the tip of a tall pine nearby. Even its many eyes, constantly rotating and shifting, failed to notice the wild pokémon creeping up on the pair of humans.

At least for now.

[attr="class","mthread"]this isn't his usual expedition, but marcel would be lying if he said he wasn't interested in the reason remiel invited him here. as he takes in the scenery, some part in the back of his mind wonders how long until this curiosity is the end of him. he returns the alakazam he used to teleport here before replacing it with his sylveon.

unlike his fellow admin, marcel adopts his usual wear, save the blazer he left behind; his sleeves are rolled to the elbows, cuffs unbuttoned. "what's the occasion?" he asks as he approaches. sensing a similar presence, he motions for his sylveon to cast a cautionary LIGHT SCREEN around them.

Remiel finishes his drag, then soundlessly blows the smoke out of his nostrils before flicking the cigarette to the ground. It's crushed beneath the sole of his boot as he responds. "We're coworkers, aren't we? I certainly believe it'd behoove us to work together on occasion. In person." Shifting his blue-grey eyes away from the man, he pauses before swiftly standing up and off the gurney. Then he releases a sharp chirp. It catches the attention of his Claydol afar. But it also prompts another into action.

The Shiftry disguising itself as a myrtle tree behind him might have supposed it had plenty of time to strike the human down with a swing of its branch. What it almost certainly hadn't accounted for, however, was the imposing Claydol afar suddenly occupying the space between it and Remiel with an expertly executed Teleport. The branch struck the multi-eyed golem to no effect. Then, promptly afterwards, sent flying backwards into the forest with an Earth Power. As bits of rock and wood rained down upon them, Remiel sighed.

"I'm assuming you've heard the reports, Head of Intel."

"can't argue with that." it dawns on him that of all the high-ranks, even before his promotion to admin, it is only remiel who treats him with such distant politeness. he soon decides it's because the rockets he's used to simply aren't built around these social niceties.

something stirs when he hears his title aloud; whatever it is, it is not pleasant. it makes this too real, him too culpable. marcel raises a brow as he shakes off a creeping guilt--this is not the first time he's grateful for his trained facades. "course i've heard," he says, "but i normally leave this sort of thing to the scientists."

"Doesn't seem like there's many who care to venture outside their laboratories these days," Remiel responds, beginning to follow the trail into the forest. "Especially when it concerns putting their lives in danger."

And it would soon be apparent that danger had a craving for them. Lumbering out of Marcel's side of the forest was a rather irate Rhyhorn. Meanwhile, on Remiel's side, a Gastrodon suddenly slid down from the side of a tree. Why it did so screaming was beyond the Galarian's understanding. But his Claydol floating above was quick to descend and put a stop to it with Psychic.

Remiel withdrew and tossed an empty luxury ball at the slug afterwards, hoping to test it later.

[break][break]people often strove for knowledge, but there was a line many dared not to cross. though marcel can't empathise wholeheartedly to such sentiments, he can respect the other side; he feels they may be happier.

as the other admin dealt with the gastrodon, marcel takes the rhyhorn upon himself. his sylveon dodges a DRILL RUN before retaliating with its own COPYCAT version.

Remiel mused as he strolled over to pick up the newly occupied pokéball from the ground. Another beast walked past him in the brush ahead, but he made no move to attack or capture it. And neither did his Claydol. It eventually went away.

"That's the downside of living in what others might consider a utopia, isn't it? People forget what hunger feels like. They get comfortable believing all there is to explore has been explored. All the great discoveries have been made. Or, worse... that someone else will make them on their behalf." He clips the new ball to his belt.

"i can believe that about that league ones," he says, "think ours have a bit more grit." different conditions called for a tougher mentality. rocket couldn't afford to coddle anyone; results were demanded.

The young Galarian thinks back on the few heads of science he's met in the organization. The one's he imagines Marcel is taking account. The idea of them bring a small and barely noticeable smile to his face. "Hm... yes, there are a few. I just can't say that I've met them in earnest."

But Marcel isn't finished. And, though his next words are rather compelling, Remiel and Hammurabi must deal with a particularly nasty Cacturne that has emerged out from the brush to ambush them first. The black-haired royal ducks as a Needle Arm swings overhead. As he feels the ground rumble beneath his feet, he is quick to take cover behind a tree before it erupts. When he reemerges to find the Cacturne entangled in another tree's branches, he's quick to toss an empty luxury ball at it. It drops to the ground below.

"It should be," Remiel responds, carrying on the conversation as if he wasn't just attacked by a wild pokémon. "And, in a way, it is. Knowledge permeates every aspect of our lives. It enhances our perspectives. It brings out a better version of the people we wish to be, even if others don't happen to think so."
