Once Izumi's Braviary (Sora) had brought the kids down, Josh had fairly easily talked them into trying swimming. Josh had brought floaties for the both of them just in case this sort of thing happened. All Zachary could talk about though was the chance they might see water Pokemon, as the black-haired child had been watching the Pokemon at the beach nonstop since they had arrived. Lyra was just eager to see and do everything.

The kids were hesitant to jump in at first, but with a little coaching, they steadily waded into the water...

The swarm had come and gone and Sebastian had managed to man himself a Pokemon too like some lucky others.

However the next event had seemed to change time slots if only on hopes to divert attention away from the mess on the beach.

Fire spinning?

Sebastian was no acrobat. But....

Ordering a Pachirisu Float and sipping it to cool off before giving himself a turn at the double side fire staff the Rocket would begin to sweat not from the heat, but worrying about failing again....

With the kids in their floaties and Izumi somewhere, probably tending to Sora, Josh coaxed the kids to wade into the water. It took a bit of work, as there was clear hesitation there, but he was eventually able to get them in over their knees. Once they were in though, and there was the thresh of complaints over how cold it was, the kids suddenly seemed to undergo an evolution into Water Pokemon of their own, as they suddenly jumped into the rest like it was nothing! With their floaties on, they had seemingly no fear.

No fear at all.

Sounds about right.

On the pier overlooking the beach party stood a lone man. A lit cigarette wedged between his lips, the cyclops watched the festivities and madness going on. People were having fun in the water, some of the more calm ones were sun tanning, instead of partying, Thomas Benoit took a different approach. Rather than being clad in swimwear, the Kalosian was instead clad in a white suit with a baby blue button-up underneath the open jacket.

The beach really wasn't his scene, but he was fine with the pier. At this point, he was watching out for the safety of the beach goers, just in case something went wrong. But then, given that many of them had their Pokemon on them, he was sure they would take care of themselves. For now, Thomas would reach inside of his white jacket, fishing out a flask. He would take a swig of the whiskey inside, doping himself up just a little more with the potent booze.

After all that fire bone throwing, it was nice to cool off a little bit. Even if that Hydro Pump had sort of cooled him off, it was nice to actually cool off on his own terms. Josh submerged himself in the water, letting out a breath as he watched the kids eagerly try and swim after him. They still didn't know how to swim properly yet, but with the floaties, at least they could get used to the whole thing. In time, he would be able to give them proper swimming lessons. Maybe when they were a little older.

Lightning didn't feel like watching from the sidelines though, as the Raichu charged forward and leaped into the air, cannon-balling into the water and getting a laugh from the family.

“Yeah, that was intentional,” she sassed his way, having returned with the two drinks and handing him one to drink down. “I’ll go get some non-alcoholic drinks for the kids…” she gestured at the Braviary, who was still hovering above them with the two literally pointing at anything and everything they could see.

At the mention of swimming, her brows furrowed.

“They were headed that way before those weird purple spiky things came ashore en masse. You think it’s safe now?” she asked, before the Braviary hovered slightly lower than where he currently was.

“As long as there ain’t no more Pokémon coming out of the water and scaring everyone, sure,” she added with a little shrug. Besides, the kids weren’t going to be accidentally knocking at death’s door if they knew how to swim, right?

Start them young and everything like that.

If it hadn’t been safe to go in yet, Josh wouldn’t have suggested it. With that in mind, once he and the kids were in the water, Josh called out to Izumi. “Honey! The water’s fine! Come on in!”

Otherwise she would find her company rapidly decreasing. Josh’s Froakie that had sprayed Josh with Hydro Pump earlier when he had nearly caught himself on fire would be the next to choose to make a beeline for the water. Diving in, Espio started to swim across, blowing bubbles into the air which very much delighted the kids.

All she could do was internally shrug at his response before following him into the water. To nobody’s surprise, his Froakie was already lounging in the surf, blowing bubbles towards the two and generally keeping the kids preoccupied.

Izumi then looked over at Josh before nodding in her Braviary’s direction. “Keep an eye out for us if anything weird happens, okay,” she said in the avian’s direction before kicking off her sandals and joining the three in the water. While she wasn’t a fan of salt water, she wouldn’t say no to a round or two of swimming in the surf—no matter how salty the water tasted.

“Okay, Mister ‘I’m the world’s best swimmer’,” she teased her husband, “Do teach us the first thing to do when we’re out in the water.”

Maybe the ego needed to be patted every once in a while…

As the Gym Leader was looking down from the pier, he could see a goofy looking teenager running back to his towel with a cone of ice cream stacked ridiculously high. He couldn't help but watch the spectacle as the teen attempted to balance the ice cream cone, before slipping on something, and falling on his back. To add insult to injury, the entire stack of ice cream fell on his face, splattering the poor bastard.

On one hand, Thomas felt bad for the guy, but on the other hand, he couldn't help but crack up at what he saw.

His wife really was seeming to go mad after all, it appeared. She was saying something about him saying something about being the world's best swimmer, and he blinked a few times before just shrugging it off. "Well, alright. The first thing you do in the water is kick your feet" he told the kids... And Izumi, and the Pokemon. Lightning and Espio both started to kick paddle through the water, and with their floaties on, the kids started to try to follow suit. It was still going to take a bit of work, but it was a good start.

On one hand, Thomas felt bad about laughing at the poor kid for falling like that. On the other hand, he couldn't help but laugh at what a big brained moment that was, carrying such a ridiculous stack of ice cream across such a distance. If anything, he should've gone with a much shorter cone, or had it near the stand, so he didn't have to perform his failed balancing act.

As Thomas looked on, he would notice a couple of familiar faces, Josh and Izumi, teaching their children how to swim. While he was tempted to greet them, he refrained from doing so, instead choosing to watch out for them from afar, make sure they were alright.

It seemed like the Mareanie were no longer a threat and she even managed to snag one with a quick toss of a Pokeball. Quite pleased with the situation, Ruby turned around to finally try and head back into the crowd to talk... when another event came in. This time, fire dancing was the hot game that everyone was trying out. Ruby sighed, slowly turning to look out across the sea. Was it worth trying it out again? Distracting her from her goal?

Her eyes glanced over the horizon again, letting out a soft sigh. Was it really worth it? Would seeking out Dahlia and talking with her make her feel any better? With the lightning crackling far off in the distance, Ruby finally made up her mind. She turned around, each Indeedee holding one of her hands as she walked. There would be time for business later. She was wasting so much time stressing and worrying when today should have been all about fun.

With a soft smile spreading across her face, Ruby was quick to sign up for the fire dancing and give it a shot. She could always try and speak with the commissioner later. She was a big enough name that she couldn't be ignored, hopefully. Today was supposed to be a day for fun, for celebration, and for enjoying what summer brought with it.

Her Pokemon both used Helping Hand, clapping along as Ruby performed with a huge smile on her face, laughing giddily. She wasn't perfect, but that didn't matter. All that mattered was that it was fun, and everything else could take a back seat for once in her life.

Tonight was for fun. Stress be damned.

“Making me take the lead now, are you?” she teased back with a grin.

Sighing, as she knew there was no other way she was getting out of this, she followed suit and began helping the two shrieking children (who ended up playing in the water after being distracted by the Froakie) and showed them how to kick-paddle with their feet.

It was so cheesy, yet at the same time it felt so right to do because well, they were a family, and families did things together, right?

Eventually, she took both their hands and slowly led them out to deeper water.

“Hold on tight, you two. Keep kicking. You’re lighter than the water, keep kicking like how I showed you,” she encouraged them as she waded out towards waist-deep water.

THE BEACH

LIGHTNING COURSES THROUGH THE SKY. the beach is illuminated violently; however, alongside the roar of thunder, screams begin to pierce the air. in the distance, near mt. chimney's smoking peak, an ultra wormhole begins to tear itself open. phones rise in the crowd while others flee despite how far it is. a bolt of lightning lashes out from the portal and strikes somewhere in the mountain range. after, a loud explosion rocks the mountain...[break][break]

the ultra wormhole does not seem to have the energy to keep itself open. before anyone can witness an ultra beast or some other horrific creature birth itself from the abyss, the hole seems to short circuit before disappearing without a trace.[break][break]

later investigations will discover that the lightning struck a battle-ravaged part of the mountain (same location as Bailey Cooper's research thread: cinis). whatever has transpired there has resulted in large canyons or holes that lead directly into the magma reservoir below.[break][break]

when league rangers, sent by Laurence Anderson, head ranger, arrive on the scene, they would find a curious sight. a litter of baby zeraora: pokemon said to be born when lightning strikes the mouth of an erupting volcano. quickly, they are recovered. rubber gloves are required, for they do not seem to be able to control their sparks just yet.[break][break]

needing new homes, the league in conjunction with the pokeathlon has decided to award these pokemon to high achievers in the event. these young zeraora are special, and details can be found below:[break]

those with 2000 heroic medals can redeem one of these baby zeraora in the heroic medal treasure trade and choose their moveset/abilities like a gachapon pokemon.

nevertheless, not all is cause for celebration. in the coming days, frightening reports of odd weather phenomena and similar omens to what happened near mt. chimney come piling in. dahlia goode, the commissioner of the league, calls for an emergency meeting. something is amiss. the notice comes gravely.[break][break][break]
