Born the youngest of his siblings to two pokemon researchers in Wyndon, his early life was filled with endless 'interesting' events. While his family's name is somewhat storied locally, a lack of any real family achievements in the preceding years have had them fall into obscurity. Still, vein as his father was, Andy bore the name of his ancestors, and 'Andy' was his own variation, given that almost every other basic shortform of his given name had been long since claimed.

Both of the elder Blackadders while intelligent, were rather eccentric in their own ways, leaving Andy to develop a very small amount of patience for personality peculiarities in others. After his father disappeared when he was four, the boy went from prickly to downright barbed. He became gloomy and brooding, and began to venture forth from his home on his own more frequently. His quest for independence was often met with little resistance.

Too busy with the wiles of her own studies, his entomologist mother gave him a yanmega so he might have some protection in the wilds of Galar. With it, he caught his first pokemon, a gastly. His young mind somehow imagined a ghost type would help him find his father, who he presumed was in the afterlife, a theory his mother often chastised him about. The mischievous antics of his youth quickly earned the boy a strong bond with his new friend.

He had little desire for much else, though was happy to have his ghostly ally test its metal against the rest of Galar's wild pokemon, with predictably mixed results. At twelve, his mother, often retracing his dad's footsteps met a similar fate, disappearing from Galar. This granted Andy a heightened paranoia about his home and his homeland. The feeling of something being out there, and coming to get him for whatever misdeeds, real or imagined, he and his ilk had committed wore on him.

Being one of the heirs to what assets the Blackadders had, the youth decided it was time to leave Galar and its memories behind for a destiny that was his own, instead of one that loomed behind him, choosing to take residence with his aunt.
