Nikki should know better by now than to ask how he gets roped into this stuff... but alas, there he sits at the edge of the boat (the... gun whale, he thinks they called it?), attempting to overwrite his anxiety with stoicism, wondering what he's gotten himself into and the more pressing question of why.[break][break]

The alternative is pondering how ridiculous he looks in his wet suit. The alternative alternative is thinking about how his mission partner somehow ended up being not only an Elite Four member, but a Silph, just to add insult to injury. Even had he not had his concerns about the work given his personal circumstances – the only pacifying thought in his brain is that diving in the ocean may be like spicy pool therapy, which really isn't all that pacifying at all – the moment he laid eyes on the woman, he knew this mission was doomed to failure. Not that she wasn't capable, obviously. Just that Lady Luck was frowning on them both from the very start.[break][break]

His brooding, as his mother would have called it does end up having its own perk: there's a speckle of pink on the horizon that he sees even before his Clawitzer scuttles to attention at his side. “look alive,” the hitman calls over his shoulder, inwardly grateful that his words don't tremor the way his hands do. Stormy knows exactly how she got roped into this: she actively put her name on a 'please call me if there are any urgent assignments' list. Unfortunately, a lot of these assignments included water-related activity. Maybe it was a summer thing.[break][break]

It was no matter, skyler dross's excellent lessons in swimming and handling the Hoenn sea weren't in vain. She had become quite confident, at least for the most part, even when her feet were no longer on dry land.[break][break]

In fact, she leans over the side of the boat now, arms crossed and bearing the brunt of her weight. Her attention appears to be lost in the waves beneath, as they froth and splash against the side of the boat. She leans back as they recede only as a voice beckons to her. [break][break]

Look alive?[break][break]

"Oh, are we there already?"[break][break]

Where her partner releases a Clawitzer, she opts to release a Carracosta. The turtle Pokemon floats along the top of the water before diving, swimming alongside the boat. She places a hand on the side of the boat, perhaps to steady herself, before glancing back at the young man.[break][break]

"Ready? It looks like they've made it most of the way to shore all by themselves - oh, maybe they're trying to leave the shore, actually."[break][break]

She scratches the back of her head sheepishly, tilting her head away from Nikki and towards the swath of pink bobbing up and down in the water. There has to be hundreds of them. They appear dazed and confused, however, huddling close together, seeking assistance. Or perhaps they're frightened of something nearby. Stormy squints as the boat grows closer, fingers digging into the edge of the boat.[break][break]

"Looks like Mareanie. They really are mean, aren't they?"
