"You okay!?" He screamed over the salvo of shadow balls and acid sprays. "Is this fine?"

He didn't usually pick up Eris unless with her permission!

Seeing her trainer under fire, Sandy's eyes glowed red, her temper flaring as the cavernous walls around them all trembled, before sharp boulders began to upend and surge all about, attempting to pierce the paradox pokemon.

He didn't react to the needle, neither when it went in, nor out.

"I guess that makes sense." He hummed, eyes on the ceiling.

Neither Palkia nor Dialga look chatty. The jury was still out there on whether they could even communicate with humans in a way humans could comprehend.

Deities with control over time and space seemed like the sort of elder gods that would go beyond humanity's capacity for comprehension.

Or maybe Lovecraft was full of shit, who knew.

"Uh. Depends on how ya define it." He said, laughing. "She certainly ain't quiet."

Though most wouldn't be able to tell by just hanging around her.

"I've never heard a word from her." He said, after a moment of deliberation. "But I've heard her... scream. Once. Think everyone did."

"Usually, I just get... Uh... feelings from her." He said, tapping at his chin thoughtfully. "It's not easy to put it in words."

Though he assumed Illeana could put the pieces together— presumably, she had experienced it herself.

Best that she was as well aware as possible, if she was going to continue joining them on the battlefield. Rocket would eventually put her on its shitlist, if it hadn't already.

"No way to know. Perhaps." He wanted to say it seemed like an overreaction and a half, but then, they weren't dealing with a normal human being, good or bad.

Whoever they were, Doug knew for a fact that they were not new to killing. Their brief encounter told him that much. Perhaps Necrozma chose an avatar as unhinged as it itself was perceived by them.

He was so distracted thinking about it that he just responded on automatic to her.

"Don't think so; last time I operated on an avatar they looked human enough."

Thud thud thud THUD.

The door swung open once again, a slightly less irate looking Dr. Sullivan marching in with a clipboard in hand, his face growing more taut and tense as he sorted through, presumably, the women's files.

For a moment, he just stood there at the door, a number of blank faced looking medics standing on the other side.

Then, he tossed the clipboard over his shoulder, one of the doctors yelping as it landed in their face before the youth kicked the door closed.

"Get back in bed. Yer all gonna be fine." He reassured them, brow setting as he tugged at his gloves. "I dunno why they just shoved ya into a room to wait, but I'll have ya back in yer feet 'fore the day's over— promise."

Still, he didn't immediately move, lips pulled taut as glanced between both women— and occasionally at Thomas.

Every cell in Doug's body was offering up arguments for why Yuina was totally the one in the most need of healing— but his actual brain knew that Desiree had it worse than cadet... though not by much.

Neither was doing 'well' by any sort of definition.

Thomas wasn't doing too hot either, but Doug felt the man would find a way to suplex him while on a wheelchair if he chose to start with him instead of the other two.

No problems on that front.

Eventually, he sighed, bringing his hands up to slap himself on the cheeks twice.

"Ms. Blooms, I'll be starting with you." He said, marching up to her bed.

Even as he did, his hand dragged gently over Yuina's own bedside as he walked past it, leaving a neon pink trail of healing scales in his wake. "_{I'll be with you in just a sec.}" He mouthed her way with a slight smile.

"So— I read ya received battlefield treatment." He said as he reached Desiree's bedside, letting his hand hover over her.

Pink scales slowly dripped down unto her.

"There were no specifics, though. Could ya let me know which specific pokemon were involved? A description's fine, if ya didn't recognize 'em."

People around him kept bringing up Navy. Maybe he should try getting to know the guy at some point.

"Yeah. Well, almost." He said casually, gesturing with his thumb at Suicune. "Ya do gotta keep that one happy too, now. But hey—"

Tapu Lele hovered closer, casually dropping her arms atop Doug's head before leaning her head atop them, humming.

"Provided ya don't run it off, you'll never feel lonely again." He said, eyes fluttering shut.

Even now after (twenty-)three years, he could still feel an unnatural warmth within him. Alien, yet familiar, so ingrained into his body that to lose it would've been akin to losing a limb.

"For better or worse." He said somberly

With that happy little note spoken, the surgeon stood up suddenly, prompting every single one of his Orbeetles to begin moving, every single tool, utensil, waste, sample, and miscellanious others hovering in the air before shoving itself into the young man's case.

"And with that said— I'll leave ya to sort yerself out!" He said cheerfully, stretching his arms over his head.

Besides him, the pink deity mimicked him, down to the expressions and following yawns... despite the lack of a mouth.

"Here." Doug said, placing down a new business card on the other's bedside. "Got myself a business phone recently— been gettin' way too many calls."

The curse of popularity... and offering free medical services.

"I'll be back for a check up in three days, so make sure you're somewhere I can find ya." He said. "Oh, right. If it wasn't clear earlier— Yer free to go."

Fit as a fiddle indeed!

"I'll handle the paperwork and the staff on my way out— and the league debrief so they don't coming hunting ya down."

No promises on it actually working, though.

From one Silph to the next— hello, Delilah Silph!

He laughed.

"That checks out!" He said, shoulders quaking.

He hadn't quite forgotten his first meeting with FERNANDO SILPH yet.

The laughter didn't last long, though— 'the wedding that never happened' wasn't exactly difficult to parse.

He sighed, scratching at the back of his head.

"I was caught way off guard when I heard of that mess." He said, crossing his arms.

He was always out of the loop on those fronts; drama seemed to just skirt around his notice, no matter how close he was (or perceived himself to be) to those afflicted.

Turning his gaze back to Delilah, he considered her for a moment. Now that they were talking about Matias, the children psychologist in him couldn't help but speak.

"Your brother— uh. Let's just say, he ain't the easiest guy to get along with, putting it gently." He said after a moment, thinking about MATIAS SILPH.

He wasn't entirely ignorant of the man's... transgressions, anymore.

Beat.

"I mean, neither of them are, but I mean Matias specifically here." He clarified wryly, hoping the humor wasn't missed on their sister.

Anyway, moving on—

"So... Spend some quality time with him, yeah?" He said somewhat hopefully... before fixing an annoyed look on his face. "He won't hang out with me much."

Maybe he should be more stubborn in sticking to the man at this point.

Shaking off his annoyance with an eyeroll, he turned a smile back to Delilah.

"Anyway... I guess it's my turn now?" He said, leaning his chin atop his palm and grinning. "Any prompts for the storyteller, or should I take a blind shot?"

He could take a guess at what breathed fire at her. That aside, though—

She was adorable! Didn't even question the fact he wasn't old enough to have cleared even a bachelors.

"Yes I am, lil missy!" He said a little too proudly, nose raised high up.

Adorable, and very, very hurt, as it turned.

"Woah! Don't do that!" He urged, holding up his hands before her quickly.

If she couldn't pick herself up or stand without pain, then there was a chance that there might be a fracture, if not an outright break.

His gaze followed her own briefly, measuring the height of tree branch from which she had fallen. His lips set into a tense line.

"Why were you...? Ah, we can talk about that later." He said with a sigh, before reaching over to grab his briefcase. "So ya ran, huh? Good call! You shouldn't put your pokemon in danger— nor yourself."

Hopefully he could drill that idea into her head before they parted ways that day— he couldn't look after her 24/7, but everything he knew about children in Hoenn told him that the moment she was out of sight, she would be getting into another mess.

"May I see your leg, Lucia?"

Popping his briefcase open, the young doctor pulled out and slid on his gloves.

For once, he was at a lack of words.

He had gathered that the Drk Triad had wanted something to do with Yuina, but... why?

Only now was he beginning to realize why Yuina might've been so curious— distrustful, even— of her own past. Of whom she might've been. For whatever reason, somehow, she was deeply involved with... this shadowy cabal that none would tell her anything about. But which everyone, be it league or rocket, stood against.

His hand squeezed hers gently as his jaw clenched, eyes fluttering shut as he took in a deep breath.

"Kumon. Go handle the fire." He ordered his water spider with a nod over his shoulder, before turning his gaze over to Yuina, eyes softening.

"Haaah... This fall to me, then."

Unfortunately for all the folk that had denied her answers until now, Doug was all too happy to provide them. Anything to ease her mind.

"Let me just start with... Don't assume the worst. Them looking for ya?" He said. "Don't mean a damn thing."

There could be dozens of reasons for that— it was not a statement on her former self's character.

"What do ya know so far?"

He had no plans of text-dumping on her after that mess. But— he needed to know where to start later. What myths to dispel, which to confirm... So much to go through.

With Eris making Reiner take center stage, Doug decided the best support would be one that didn't get in the way of the Luxray's wide-spread attacks.

"Go, Sandy!" He shouted, a net ball flying through the air before a Wormmadam suddenly took the stage, flying through the air. "Have Reiner take a step back for a sec!"

The Sandy Wormmadam spun through the air before suddenly accelerating towards the ground as if gravity itself had suddenly increased a dozenfold, wedging herself into the soil beneath like the tip of a pickaxe.

It promptly cracked, ground upheaving about her to consume numerous of the paradox apparitions and throw others in disaray.
