It seemed Rosmontis didn’t think herself interesting enough to warrant the attention. But it was quite the contrary in Elinor’s opinion. Having been at Littleroot was more than enough and considering the Minor League Gym she ran. Well, it was a wonder she hadn’t visited sooner.

Rosmontis offered her a log for comfort. And Elinor was more than happy to accept, giving the girl a grateful nod as she walked over there and sat down. The Aggron trudged along and placed itself by her side, though not on the log since it would clearly squish it.

Elinor gave an understanding nod as Rosmontis began to speak. “I am glad to hear that you are doing alright all things considering.” She took a moment to consider Rosmontis’s words.

Facing Dialga didn’t seem to phase her as much as one would expect, even for a Minor Gym Leader. “Yeah it was a rather unpleasant experience. And I will admit, it was a rather surprising turn of events as well. Was that your first time dealing with a creature of such power?” Elinor asked. Admittedly she hadn’t done much research on the woman save what the reports had told her.

It was not often she was given a chance to talk with a high-ranking member of the opposition. But here she was. She had taken a moment to watch the cameras, to see how he behaved. But it had proven fruitless. He just stared at the ceiling, mind far away from the looks of it.

She had sighed and left the camera room, opting instead for a more direct approach. One glass of cold water to calm the nerves, later and she stood before the door to his cell. Clad in a grey business suit, she might very well look like someone who came here to interrogate him.

For a moment her eyes met with the guards, but even with them there she didn’t feel quite as confident about what she was about to do. And so, she summoned forth a helper of sorts. The Shiny Gardevoir appeared by her side. A quick scan of her thoughts told the Gardevoir all she needed to know.

And so, both trainer and Pokémon stepped through the door, making sure that it was adequately closed behind them. Neither looked for a chair to sit on. Instead, their attention was solely on Chu-e.

“Greetings, Mr. Choi.” A simple greeting, but hopefully enough to catch his attention.

The sound of wild Pokémon moving about alerted Elinor to their presence. But they didn’t approach. Perhaps it was the intimidating Aggron walking behind her that scared them off, or perhaps it was something else.

Whatever it may be, they made their way through the forest. The sound of wings flapping, and leaves being brushed away alerted her to the residents of the trees. But they too didn’t attack. And so she continued until she reached Rosmontis.

Elinor noticed the surprise, but what gave her cause for her own surprise was the revelation that a Zeraora had been following them all along. She sent a glance at Aggron, who simply shrugged its shoulders. It hadn’t noticed either.

“Greetings.” Elinor would greet with a gentle wave of her hand.

But pleasantries aside it seemed Rosmontis was going straight to the point. “You do.” Elinor beamed a bright smile at the Minor League Gym Leader. “How are you doing, Miss Lune?”

Elinor watched the tender display between trainer and Pokémon. Only a blind person would not be able to see the love that they both shared for each other. But love was not the only bolt in the machine. Still, it was an important one.

Josh turned his attention to her, tears running down his cheeks as he began to speak of being in sync before turning the topic to trust, and how he was the one who lacked it.

He was right, it was not a struggle often found going in that direction. She gave him a nod as she began, choosing her words carefully.

“It is understandable to fear that.” Elinor said. “And in truth, that fear might not be something I can help you with.” For a moment her eyes went to the ground, but they quickly rose to meet Josh’s “All I can advise you to do is to not fear taking the small loses to gain experience so that you won’t have to take the big loses because of a lack thereof.”

She wanted to comment on his ‘Clearly I’m just wrong’ comment. But she had an inkling feeling that stepping into that might not be wise.

Too soon to tell…

The answer was none-committal. Elinor had an inclination that it would be so. But that didn’t bother her. She figured Fernando wasn’t the type to share his opinions unless it would prove most fruitful for him.

But she did latch onto one bit in his answer. Their roles had changed in accordance with Meteno. But now that Meteno was no longer a threat, or at least not immediately so, how would their roles change. “Indeed…” Half in jest she continued. “Though I do wonder about how long it’ll take before something arises to take Meteno’s spot as the latest threat to Hoenn.”

Her current bid was on a month. And she already had a few candidates lined up for the role of culprit.

Snowy Respite (Mission)

If Callan thought her blind to his emotional turmoil, then he didn’t know her very well. She was no mind reader, but it didn’t take one to see when something was bothering him. Given what they’d been through it was understandable, but still.

Luckily no emotional turmoil stood a chance against a fun filled bout of snowball throwing. Elinor threw the first Snowball and hit square at the back of his head. It seemed the cold wet ball pulled him out of his own thoughts. Perhaps it even worked something within him from hibernation.

With a confident shit-eating grin did Elinor watch him scoop the first handful of snow, packing it. She didn’t reply at first. But then Callan suggested a mild competition, and Elinor had to oblige.

“Deal!” She spoke confidently as she readied herself to dodge the first throw. Knowing full well that she had to somehow do so and get another fistful of snow for her next ball.

He had a point. She gave him an acknowledging nod. “True, we do not.”

And yet Fernando Silph never struck her as someone to act on ‘just thought’ perhaps she had gotten the wrong impression of him or perhaps his purpose for visiting was something else, something she had to uncover.

She took a moment to consider his question. “I would like to think that I am adjusting rather well.” She looked to Fernando. “Though I will admit that might be my own bias coloring my view.”

“But as someone with more experience as a member of the council, how do you think I am doing so far?” Genuine interest in the question was evident in her voice.

The reply was quick. She read it, gave herself a light nod and then returned to work, anticipating his arrival in about an hour or so. Surely, he was a busy man.

Ten minutes later, the knock and the yip from her Bagon alerted her to his presence. If surprise was a color, her face had been painted with it. The Bagon quickly calmed down when it realized it wasn't something dangerous.

He offered her a simple question. To which she offered him the simple reply of a nod and a few spoken words.

“I am. What can I do for you?”

Distractions came at a price. The chipperly chimed ping caused a light jump in her chair as it surprised her. Eyes quickly read the text preview, for a moment slight confusion, then she opened the message and read the whole thing.

For a moment she feared she had forgotten a scheduled meeting. But then she saw the name, and well. She certainly didn’t remember any meetings planned with FERNANDO SILPH.

Yes I am.

She typed the reply. For a moment she considered adding one of those emoticons to add a sense of friendliness to the message. Surely the workplace environment needed it. But she refrained, figuring Fernando Silph would not appreciate it.

With a quick click the message was sent. Leaving her wondering what he could possible want with her right now?

“Perhaps, though I will admit. I know little on how long eruptions can keep on going.” Elinor admitted. “But I certainly hope not.”

And that’s when her eyes spotted the fluttering red smoldering wings nearby. I seemed they weren’t alone today. And whoever was with them ill intentions.

The Fiery Dance lit the wings of the Volcarona into a blaze of flames.

But Elinor’s reflexes were quick. She summoned forth a bird of Equal size. The psychic energies on its head shone brightly as it summoned the power of an AIR SLASH to tear into the Volcarona before its fiery wings could lit them alight.

Volcarona’s defeat was quick. And so was the Hisuian Braviary as it saved the Volcarona from falling to its doom.

Elinor would capture the bug, for she did enjoy the passion and aggression that it had so quickly displayed.

ARBOLIVA SWARM (ILLUMINARY LUMINARIES)

When did ignoring clearly dangerous rifts in the fabric of the universe become the norm? Elinor didn’t know, but it was a mildly interesting thing to ponder as she tried to ignore the next big calamity just waiting to happen. She was sure it must’ve been sometime between space-time distortions popping up and Giant space rock threatening their existence.

Alas she joined the people of Hoenn in ignoring their problems and focusing on the next mildly interesting thing.

To her this would be the Arboliva swarm. She had read reports that new species were emerging day by day around Hoenn. This was surely just the latest in a trend. Admittedly, Elinor knew little of Paldean Pokémon, but she was all too eager to learn more.

And she learned best by catching. This was why she now stood before the swarm. Watching them interact with the other trainers.

The Arboliva hang from the trees like Christmas Tree ornaments. They seemed friendly enough as is. And so she approached rather casually. Having brought along a Christmas edition Poffin, she extended it towards the nearest Arboliva as she said. “You look tired. Can I offer you a poffin in these trying times?” She paused for a moment.

The first one was free… The next ones, not so much, “And should you want more, then all I ask is that you join my team of Pokémon.”

Reports were sometimes like presents. Sometimes you’d get boring ones that while useful didn’t sate the cravings for excitement that they ought to bring along. But sometimes, sometimes the Delibird delivered gold.

Elinor had gotten one such report after the events of Littleroot, alongside a bunch of others. But one thing had caught her attention. Eyewitness reports of a Pokémon which shared striking similarities with that of the Lake Trio. What was even more exciting was that some of them suggested it had chosen a trainer.

The Candidate was one Rosmontis. Elinor didn’t know her personally, but she was about to. The moment she had read the report, she’d stormed out of her office. She didn’t even care that the eyewitness reports were inconclusive, that perhaps it might very well have just teleported away. No, she would check this out.

Besides this Minor Gym was due a visit either way. Even if she wasn’t challenging it right now.

And so, she had made her way there as quickly as she could. Only to be dumbfounded when she arrived at a forest. She checked the address twice, but it was the right one. For a moment she wasn’t sure if this was within League Regulations but given the time this Minor League had been active. She wasn’t about to kick up a fuss about it.

Still, a forest was still a place of danger. And so she summoned her Aggron. The Large hulking Steel Beast towered behind her. Though if one were to expect visage of terror, they would be disappointed, for upon it was the goofiest of grins.

And so, the Council woman and Aggron entered the forest looking for the Minor Gym Leader.

“You should. I am sure he would appreciate it.” Elinor suggested. Even if his aloofness often made him appear to be an 'icefall cave' personified.

She was too busy sipping the unsweetened tea to notice the glaze in Lumia’s eyes. But she knew well enough that Laurence Anderson had been getting into dangers, getting shot being amongst that. By now she had come to terms with it simply being a part of the job.

But she figured that was the last thing Lumia wanted to hear. She seemed a bit worrisome in that regard. Unfortunately, it seemed Lumia wasn’t getting a whole lot of details from her parents either. “Clients for this establishment or?” She let her words trail on for a moment.

She noticed the visible tension. But figured it better not to remark upon it. Though the nervous fiddling with her hair and the choice of words suggested to her something grim. Something she hoped wasn’t true. Actually, she prayed that it wasn’t. Because deep down she knew it was true. And she didn’t need to talk with Laurence Anderson to know this.

But she wasn’t about to go snowboarding right into that unpleasant topic. She didn’t want to inadvertently cause Andrea the deal with the emotional turmoil that was sure to come from such an event.

“Much less than I would like. The reports I’ve been handed has been sparse on the details.” Elinor admitted. Understandably so given the state anyone present was sure to be in. She remembered back to how SHE had been doing after Necrozma. “But to summarize Giant Ice Monster appears and creates this…” She gestures towards the icy-hell-scape.

“Will admit. I have yet to speak with any eyewitnesses. Figured it best to give them a moment to deal with the experience.” A luxury they could only afford because of the frozen sacrifices.
