Elinor and Steelix made it through. Though it seemed their strong-arming tactics weren’t as effective as they wanted.

But they continued forward. Hellbent on climbing the racing ladder at the cost of whatever small creature was in front of them. It didn’t take long before the next obstacle was upon them. For a moment both racer and Steelix considered taking the jump. But Elinor decided against it. It was too risky.

“We will take the safe path,” Elinor commanded.

Steelix reluctantly agreed and steered toward the winding series of shallow turns that they would otherwise have skipped had they chosen to take the jump. But alas no, instead they would rush through the turns as best they could.

Applause and roars of excitement emerged as the battle raged on.

Elinor bathed in the excitement of the crowd. Breathed in the atmosphere as it fueled her fiery trainer spirit. This was what she wanted, lived for even. Memories of her own youth flooded her. How she had snuck her way to watching Pokémon battles either on the telly or in person. Though such chances had been far and few.

She wanted this battle to last for an eternity but knew that would not be the case.

Speaking of knocking.

Kommo-o felt the sensation of Gliscor meeting with its fist. But before he could follow with another attack, the Pokémon had already disappeared into the sandstorm. Allowing Kommo-o precious seconds to feel the poison coursing through his veins eating at him from the inside as the sand tried to do him on the outside. He tried to find his opponent but he did not do so before it was too late.

Steelix felt the Excadrill in his jaws. He would’ve chomped the puny thing had it not been for the claws of metal resisting the closure. But that didn’t stop him for long as his fire continued, or it would have had Gliscor not flown down from high above, hitting him with a SKY-UPPER-CUT.

The jaws of Steelix loosened as it roared in pain letting Excadrill escape.

But that was enough for Kommo-o to realize where the opponents were. And so he set off, powerful legs sending pieces of the arena flying as he charged at the opponent. The first shape he saw was that of Excadrill. Sickly green energy covered its fist as it went in for a DRAIN PUNCH.

Steelix was not about to just take the attack. It tried to dive head first at the Gliscor, hoping to catch it within its jaws instead. The fire was long gone as it made way for ICE FANG. But even he had to admit such a rapid change of temperature was uncomfortable for him, it sent pain sharp pain through his jaw, but he would push through it.

Autumn sent a proverbial dig toward Elinor's integrity as a person once more. But Elinor did not take the bait. Why should she? It would all but confirm that she couldn’t make friends. And that would be a lie, or so Elinor would’ve liked to believe. Perhaps had Autumn made the same statement a year ago it might’ve held true. But now she had friends, friends she liked to believe she could rely on. Friends, she wasn’t merely using for her own benefit.

Still, a slight twitch at her eye did happen, and if Autumn paid attention surely she would catch it.

Luckily Rotom pushed the topic away, offering food instead as a suitable replacement. And it seemed Autumn was inclined to agree. It would perhaps be the first thing they would agree on tonight.

Elinor pretended to look thoughtful as she considered Autumn’s inquiry. “Well, we can certainly take dinner in the living room. Though if you would rather avoid my presence then I am sure we can figure something out.” The metaphorical ball was now in Autumn’s court.

And yet Elinor couldn’t help but hope if only for a little bit, that Autumn would accept eating with her.

Neither the Porygon-Z nor the Rotom awaited the outcome. Both flew into action as they began to work. Porygon-Z prepared the food and Rotom prepared seating arrangements in the living room for Elinor, Autumn, and all the Pokémon.

Being a member of the Council offered Elinor precious little time to just walk her Pokémon. If they weren’t training then they weren’t being productive. Luckily she could outsource the more menial tasks of Pokémon upkeep to entrepreneurial spirits.

Which she had done today.

It wasn’t often that Flareon got to go out without being accompanied by the rest of the Eeveelution-herd. But today was a special occasion. Some poor sods had sought Pokémon to help them advertise their Pokémon walking business and well, here she was.

She pranced around all better-than-thou-like. Sneering at all those who came too close to her. Pulling the leash whenever the Pokémon-walker seemed inattentive. If they wanted good behavior they would have to treat her with the respect she deserved.

Even when they tried to berate her on this behavior all the walker would get as a reply was SMOG blown right in their face. Flareon cared naught for their feeble attempt at domestication.

With Elisabeth Fiorelli escaping Elinor took a moment to lick her wounds and allow her Gardevoir to do the same for the rest of her team.

But their time to heal was cut short. The sound of shattering glass announced the appearance of a foe near the Primal Point.

Perhaps Elinor should’ve considered her options as she saw the shape taking form. She wished she had thought it through, but she did not. Gardevoir quickly recalled back into its ball as Elinor began to sprint towards the Primal Point and the Origin Form Dialga.

Memories of Necrozma resurfaced as she got closer and closer. She remembered the powerlessness of standing before it, the fear, the despair, and the anger… oh the anger, raging like primal fires in her heart. She no longer saw Dialga for what it was, she saw it for what it represented. It was a danger to her people.

Rage in her eyes, fingers curled in fists. She grabbed one particular Pokeball and summoned the beast within.

The Aggron Appeared roaring as it ran by her side. It quickly understood what her plan was. And it agreed. It would not let the Darkest Day repeat.

But before they reached their send off point, they saw their backup appear. A light pink ray of light announced Diancies arrival. For a moment Elinor felt relief, but anger took hold once more as they continued.

"Diancie, we need your aid!" Elinor proclaimed.

And it seemed the Crystal Legendary heard them as sharp pink gems joined with Aggron's steel frame almost as if it knew what they were about to do.

The moment they were within range Elinor let all of her anger, rage and righteous fury out through her voice as she commanded. "CORCKSCREW CRASH!"



Light silver steel type energies swirling around Aggron, joining with the pink of Diancie and the Primal Energy of a Z-move, as Aggron launched itself like a spinning missile toward the Origin form Dialga, aiming to kill the god of time.

While it wasn’t a perfect drift, Elinor and Steelix found themselves coming through the obstacle. Though both were focused on competing right now, surely great tales of the Steelix Drift Queen Elinor would be regaled for years to come!

But the race course would not leave them much time to ponder their growing fame. Now was the time for speed. She saw it too. A wide stretch of straight forward path bade them to increase their speed.

“Push your position, Steel!” Elinor commanded

And the Steelix was all too happy to impose itself upon those around him. ROCK POLISH boosted his speed once more as he made his way forward, attempting to weave in and out as best he could between his opponents.

When the lap grew narrow, he would impose his size difference upon those who thought it wise to challenge him in a narrow racing space.

And so their battle came to an end. Elinor was victorious, but it was a hard-earned victory this time. To be honest. It had been quite a while since anyone had offered her such a challenge.

The improved training of the Dragonair, its ability to brawl with Kommo-o, for a Pokémon not fully evolved, that was quite the feat. But the real icing on the cake, and what truly impressed her was Josh’s willingness to forego Arcanine’s fire type to avoid its natural weakness to water type. Had Swampert been any more reliant on its water-type techniques then it would’ve been in for a rough time.

All in all, Elinor had to acknowledge Josh as a trainer, and that made her excited but at the same time, she felt a bit afraid. The way he improved so quickly. He would surely surpass her at this speed.

And then the tiniest of voices in the far reaches of her mind whispered. What will you do if Team Rocket turns that talent against you… But she pushed the thought away, kept her smile up to hide it as Josh approached her offering her the badge.

“I will admit, you have surprised me with how much you have improved!” She admitted.

She chuckled mildly as Josh made sure to let her know this was NOT the same badge as the one she had already won at his Minor League Gym. “I can see that.” She beamed him a smile as she took the badge, the gallery rose in applause.

“Oh my. Josh, I did not take you for the type that would indulge in that type of battle.” She pondered it for a moment or at least pretended to. She had to since such a battle would surely cause untold damage to the environment. “But I accept your challenge!”

If Josh thought the Dragon Rush would hurt the Electivire, well, he would be correct. The horn thrust upon the Electivire leaving a deep mark. But nothing it had not experienced before, nothing which it could not fight through.

ICE PUNCH connected with the draconic foe freezing it in its tracks. But Electivire was not done. Another ICE PUNCH would be thrown at Dragonair, and another, it would continue to throw these as best it could.

Meanwhile, after the attack, Shedinja saw the BRAVE BIRD-infused Bladestorm diving at it. Shedinja disappeared again. Pulling itself into the shadow realm with PHANTOM FORCE once again.

But this time it didn’t immediately appear behind one of Josh’s Pokémon. Instead, it appeared in the opposite direction of the brawl between Dragonair and Electivire

Swirling rings of light golden energies began to radiate toward Bladestorm, in a CONFUSE RAY, but that was all Shedinja did. No damaging attacks, not even an attempt at moving or running. Only offering Bladestorm a choice. Help its friend or deal with the tricky ghost?

Arcanine was powerful, this much was true. But compared to Swampert whose body was used to lifting boulders reaching weights of a ton, Arcanine’s power would come up short.

Still, the motion from Arcanine and the sudden stop that Swampert was trying to force caused an imbalance between the two. Toppling them over onto the ground. Arcanine on top. But it seemed Arcanine was not intent on getting up.

But Swampert was. He gently pushed the Arcanine off and got up on his feet. But he did not stop there. He took hold of the fiery Canine, gently lifting it into his arms before walking over to Josh to gently lay it by his side.

Arcanine had fought bravely, the least Swampert could do was treat it with dignity.

Elinor allowed herself a moment to applaud the Swampert’s display of good sportsmanship.

The pincer attack devolved into a brawl. Kommo-o could not dodge the incoming attack from Gliscor at this range, or perhaps the SAND VEIL hid the movement enough. Either way, it felt how the poison jab hit his chest, injecting venom he now had to fight off.

Air left his stunned lungs for a brief moment as he grimaced and returned the jabs with the strongest ICE PUNCH he could muster. But he was already feeling the toll the battle was taking

Meanwhile, Steelix’s advances were halted by Excadrill bursting from the ground. Rocks were hurled at the giant steel serpent keeping it separate from its target as it tried to dodge. And yet, for as much as it dodged it felt the bangs of rocks against its steel body.

But puny rocks would not halt. The ice in its fangs melted into a burst of mist as fire coated its jaw. Steelix dived towards Excadrill trying to catch it within its FIRE FANG.

The woman’s greeting was nervous. Her eyes were wide and barely managed to look at her. But Elinor’s smile grew wide and warm. It wasn’t an unusual reaction to her presence.

The skittering Dragapult caught the attention of Elinor’s own Dragapult. It climbed atop her back and peaked from its trainer’s shoulder and to the store owner and their own skittish ghost dragon.

A chuckle escaped Elinor as the woman continued speaking without leaving a moment for her to reply. Still, Elinor shook her head as she continued inside. “No, you did not.” Elinor acknowledged. “And I am looking for a Miss Lumia Peura.” Elinor hadn’t seen pictures of the person she was looking for, and so was blissfully ignorant of who she was talking to. “You wouldn’t happen to know where I can find her, would you?”
