War is cruel, necessary as it is unforgiving.

[break][break] The loss of those like and feel bittersweet, against the triumph of Petalburg's victory and the peace of Sootopolis' armistice.

[break][break] Each of his days seemed to be filled with endless busywork — necessary check-ins from those who participated in the latest warfront, grim tallies of the dead and injured, mountains of paperwork that seemed to appear from absolutely nowhere, and countless war meetings with those like and . And that was not even taking into account the personal issues that Sootopolis' flooding seemed to necessitate — a temporary move to Rustboro, with his beloved , where the only good thing about it seemed to be the fact that he shared a street and laundromat with .

[break][break] Jayden enters the meeting room right after wrenches it open, seizing the opportunity to slip in silently. He notices the purified Eevee hopping onto the table but pays it no mind as he strides towards , his precious kouhai. In stark contrast, his Ruinous patron's attention immediately pins itself onto the other pokemon with an almost predatory focus, piercing blue eyes tracking the small critter like a mountain lion stalking a rabbit through the underbrush.

[break][break] Cold fingers slide through the newly-named Beast's curled locks as he ruffles 's hair, a silent gesture, as he nods in acknowledgement towards .

[break][break] "Neon's right, Hitoshi," he said, though without any bite to his words. "But good work. I'm proud of you."

[break][break] He is - of course - talking about Petalburg. But he might as well have been talking about his ascension to Beast too.

[break][break] "But I wouldn't say losing an underboss as collateral is 'pretty good,' personally."

[break][break] Appearing right behind the intelligence admin, Jayden looks at him. He tilts his head.

[break][break] Given his particular stance — as a fellow Ruinous avatar, or a posterchild for Rocket loyalty, a living emblem of it's relentless order — Jayden was probably expected to be struck with grief, or at the very least a touch of remorse, at the loss of their Underboss, such a vital figure within Rocket's upper brass.

Before the Cursed could voice his thoughts into the frigid air that surrounded them all, there was a sudden CRASH that careened through the walls of that forbidden chamber that they had all collected in. It was as if 's fear of death had brought it all to fruition, as if the mere thought of that silent fear was all that needed for something so blasphemous to shake the walls of their reckoning.

[break][break] Whatever dissonance that existed between them evaporated into thin air at their shared opposition. Both his sisters chose to stay back, hesitating in the absence of that unsurmountable FEAR that flooded through the room as a result of the presence that had shown them that frightful truth.

[break][break] Thorny vines whipped outwards to ABSORB the energy from the golem-like beast, just as 's finger-tips glowed with new, poisoned power. A blackened HYPERBEAM crackled through the air, just as Jayden leaped into the air.

[break][break] Fear resonated through them all. For , the fear of collaboration, of the loss of her pride. For , the fear of DEATH that had always threatened her very livelihood.

[break][break] But had lived with such paralyzing fear - had lived under a demon's control - and so as he heard the crack of his sister's rotting BEAM shatter against stone, he attempted to land onto that jagged form, reaching for the rocky fists that closed around his cousin's cracked bowl.

[break][break] If only he was easier to hate, if only he was aimless and without purpose, as had once declared.

[break][break] "LET'S DANCE TOGETHER, YOU AND I," Jayden growled, eyes like crystal ice fixed on the goliath that dared to try and steal their shining star.

[break][break] With purpose, blackened shrapnel rippled down his arms and shot out from his hands, crushing through whatever remained, just as the poisonous mochi had once flooded through his very veins.

🧊 Jayden now possesses the power to control DEMONIC BLACK ICE imbued with malignant properties. This ice inflicts unbearable pain upon contact, driving its victims into a state of confusion and rage while temporarily amplifying their strength. When applied to his own body, due to his unique bond with Chien Pao, Jayden can heal otherwise fatal wounds. As armor, it provides a full-body defense that grants him temporary invulnerability. However, this is an immense strain on his body, eroding his energy and mental state, leaving him in need of significant recovery afterward.

[break][break] "thank you," he mouths at the other, though it's impossible to know if the other can see him, in all the chaotic mess that surrounds them both.

[break][break] heat burns off the crystals that press against his fatal wound, drained out by the roaring sea as he directs himself and 's TAPU KOKO towards that raging beast.

[break][break] "hitoshi is right," he calls to his fellow rockets, hands curling into fists at his side as he glares at the leviathan above. the rampaging, PRIMAL KYOGRE. "we won't die here, not today. not as long as we have each other."

[break][break] and in his hand, his SHADOW AEGISLASH emerged. he hurled it towards the leviathan's thrashing body, watching as it's SHADOW WAVE rippled outwards towards the menacing waves.
