It was an interesting conversation to have. She was just cynical enough to not have a stake in it, and he omitted just enough to not make it obvious that he instigated some of these fights. He felt sorry for her.

"...You're right. You need to take this time to build yourself up. And I don't think anyone could blame you for checking out of this argument when you lost someone to it." He said, thinking it over for a second. Then, the middle, which he hadn't gotten to. Having nobody. It was a feeling he had, but was able to fight down successfully. Work is work, play is play. He offered a weak smile. "I'm moving into a two-bedroom in Rustboro. You can visit sometime, if you want to."

Then, she glanced back up at him, awkwardly. This was someone who seemed like they'd come out of their shell, if they had a bigger circle around them. He calmed down, and had something of a neutral expression. Giona pulled up his Rotom Phone, and showed his contact information to her.

The first topic was dropped entirely. Not a big deal. He kind of smiled when she started getting worked up. Work is work, play is play. Nonetheless, she had this endearing passion for this thing that was still so far away from her. He nods when she says she wants to pay that kindness forward.

"All I know is... I fight for my friends. They'd do the same for me." He said, thinking it over for a second. There were ethical arguments against what he did. Of course there were. Despite this, he carried on. For the people who were personally nice to him. Like turning iron from all the blood spilled into friendship bracelets.

Then, she blushed and apologized! After making it clear that she was invested in this conversation! He was of mixed feelings about that. Had someone made her feel like she's crazy for this? Nonetheless, it was cute. He blushed himself, and slowly held Rowlet to his chest, to try and finally get it to sleep.

“It's fine. It's clear that you care about this. And... a good listener is what people need sometimes. A thing to just bounce ideas off of, until you know which ones you have to keep.”

He was kind of checked out for the duration of the tournament. It was a low-stakes way to hang out with friends and drink enough feraligatr-ade to fuel a whole soccer team. Then again, this time on the mound of sand, it looked more like a stage. His more recent losses atleast looked closer than ever. Like he was finally winning the respect of the venue owners through sheer dogged determination.

"Oh! I know you! We dealt with that disturbance in our uh... apartment block together."

Giona blinked, looking to Chu-e. He had a comically serious expression all of a sudden. Not that it was Chu-e's fault. He'd just recalled not one but two incidents where a Haunter nearly ended him, as a prank.

"Knowing you, you have something big going on later. Do you need a warmup?" He said, looking to him. A row of pokeballs were clipped to the waistband of his sweatpants, which he wore over black leather sandals with black tube-socks. No shirt, towel around his neck. Three of the balls seemed to rustle, as if they were just used, and the wild pokemon inside were still fighting its influence. He scooped them up into two cupped hands, to stop them from pulling his pants down.

He paused, then looked back to Lulu. His dangling earrings jiggled. She’d taken the first comment too literally, but by now it was something of a game. He could “walk” his Espurr, sure. He could’ve just misspoke, and gone too far to correct himself. And it not like Rowlet couldn’t run in a pinch. It was unclear if he was just fucking with her.

"It can fly, yeah. They get big enough to walk eventually. Have you seen a Decidueye? Big guys."

Chandelure was worn down. Still hovering in the air. It was met with her Magneton, returning to the sand. It was still burned, and this seemed... inadvisable. He wouldn’t remark on it. Just seemed odd.

"..."

Chandelure looked it over, as the two hovered. A moment of silence broke, with Magneton moving first. A tri-attack paralyzed Chandelure. Giona withdrew it with a red beam, effectively surrendering. It wouldn’t have gone his way if it continued.

As discussed on the beach, Giona is parting ways with a Bronzor, sending it to Lulu Flint . Being busier than ever, he wouldn’t think too hard about not seeing it again.

He paused, then looked back to Lulu. His dangling earrings jiggled. His impish smile returned.

"Either way, he's an interesting guy. He's even more serious about hiking than I am."

Chandelure was clipped by Power Whip. It wasn't especially sturdy, and was aided mostly by type advantages. That raw physical power would prove to be an issue if he didn't turn it around quickly. He whistled a slowly ascending note. Chandelure cast a beam from its yellow glass eyes. A beam meant to disorient Ferrothorn if it struck, that we'd understand to be Confuse Ray.

"Sometimes I take it for a walk, and it starts chasing me around. It's like any cat in that way. It'll just make its own enrichment."

Rowlet was something of a handful. That little football had the makings of a mean theater guy, were it a person.

Giona was in a similar boat. He'd gotten further than expected. He was even moving across the country to be able to walk to work. Two bedrooms, one bathroom in Rustboro. They treat you like a king in those industrial economy towns.

"I suspect that City Council wouldn't have played hardball with me, if I had an attitude. They might have even paid attention to the awful things I said and did during the background check period."

A Seed Bomb hit Drifblim's side again. It sailed off-course, shaken just by the impact of it. It wasn't very effective, but it still hit hard. Drifblim sailed overhead after a minute to recalibrate. It moved like a cloud across the sky. His comment brings a moment of silence.

Giona whistled a series of notes, like the 'windy' sound for Ominous Wind. This time, it was an octave higher. Drifblim continued circling overhead. It eventually descended quickly, then stopped on a dime. A compressed wave of air that we'd understand to be Gust was aimed for Breloom.

"Work is work. Play is play. You're welcome to visit, once I finish moving."

She knew him already! Wow. Giona snorted, trying to hold back laughter.

"You too, huh? I think he's hilarious. Just the other day, he told me..."

He scrunched up his nose, and moved his jaw forward a little to jut out his chin. He tried to mimic his counterpart's comically serious expression.

"Ye'd be surprised just how little people want ta supervise me. Turns out, I'm a bit difficult."

Chandelure drifted overhead. It was slowly strafing Ferrothorn, but also gaining altitude. It was like being high and watching a cloud cross the sky. It then opened up with Flame Burst. A gout of flame that'd at the very least make the sand glisten.

"I wouldn't dream of it. I just need Ivysaur to be alert enough to play with Rowlet while I'm at work."

That Rowlet was something of a handful. He and Chryssa were chased by a Decidueye, and something about the restless little football reminded him of that foul thing. It'd be perfect for the gym.

Giona was in a similar boat. He'd gotten further than expected. Wasn't turned down immediately. Even had a string of emails between him and the Rustboro City Planning Commission. He'd have to respond soon.

"Yeah, landscaping. I worked on the bridge between Mauville and Slateport once. It was there that I found an Electrike. You saw it full-grown when we first met. It was getting in the way, and I caught it so nobody called the Rangers."

A Counter harmlessly pinged off of Drifblim. His eyes widened with anticipation as the tail sailed through the air. If it actually returned with more than the power it was struck with, it would've knocked out Drifblim for sure. It felt good to be on the other side of this kind of battle.

"...Feisty. I'm sure there's someone out there who'd like that."

Giona whistled a slowly rising and falling tone, like a dubbed over sound effect of a howling wind in a cartoon. Drifblim responded by setting its sights on Breloom. It whipped up a current. A wave of compressed air. It used Ominous Wind, a move that would've felt cold inside if Breloom was hit, as if a ghost walked through it.

"I'm something of a doormat. I've gotten along with... almost everyone who needed a plus one for an event, and picked me because their friends were busy."

The gifted ball sailed through the air, landing just shy of her feet. He raised both eyebrows, then chose to mind his own business. He fished for something to hastily replace Ivysaur.

The next one was another recent find. A chandelier that hovered a foot off the ground, found in one of several sojourns to Mount Pyre. He was about to forget KING WAYLAND 's name. Or... he hadn't caught his name to begin with, and was too confident to back down and ask him at this point. King and Giona chafed against eachother, but in a way that made him feel close. It was like having an older brother.

"--If I'm not mistaken, I found that Bronzor on a hike in Mount Chimney. It was with uh... That guy with the scowl, and hair light blue like a printer cartridge."

Chandelure sailed through the air, opening up the field with a Will o Wisp. A hot ball of blue light that drew closer, curling and orbiting Magneton in the way that a Confuse Ray would.

"I can't justify the expense of living in Mauville. I've filed paperwork to start a gym in Rustboro, and I'll be moving there soon. I still need to exchange a few emails with their City Planning Commission tonight."

The slight ringing in his ears from Metal Sound finally died down. Frankly, he'd said too much already. He had something of a cat-like nature and grin. He did things arbitrarily.

Giona saw fit to speak, only to communicate to his partner. "It's gonna get a lot tougher, but it'll get easier eventually. If we hypnotize one of them, I can stall until you come up with something else."

Gengar was struck. Waves of heat and humidity lapped at it, orders of magnitude greater than even the hot sand under it. Thanks to its ability Cursed Body, there was a 30% chance of Heat Wave being disabled for a brief period.

He whistled, with a slow series of notes, like one you'd hear in a mobile installed over a baby's crib. Gengar turned to face Zeraora, and tried to blast it with the dulling, slowing psychic wave called Hypnosis.

gengar's ability cursed body went off, giving it a 30% chance to disable heat wave for now. gengar tried to attack zeraora with hypnosis.

Ivysaur adjusted to the sun rather well, come to think of it. The fern-like leaves of its flower bulb fanned out, catching the rays. Normally, Giona just gave everything the meat-cereal that people bought for Mightyenas, but it could be possible that this may need to eat something else. It may even need to eat less.

He smirked, but this time it reached the skin around his eyes. Looked a little more like a genuine smile. Either way, it'd be in capable hands.

"--Either way, it's none of my business."

The incoming attack was a prism of light, with three harsh, bright sides. As it sunk into Ivysaur, it froze on contact. A comically large prism of ice formed around it, sitting on the hot sand and sweating, but not fast enough to free it right away.

"I'm okay with that. Keep it as long as you need to. I have my own project to attend to, and it'll command more of my attention than I'd care to admit."

Giona then unclipped a ball from his belt, bearing the telltale kohl-black top and red R. It wasn't dirty, so much as... the finish on the red underside was starting to get little grooves in it from how often he'd been using it. He'd make a gesture to warn her, then tossed it to her underhanded, like a baseball.

He was kind of checked out for this battle as well. The tension marking the beginning faded. Furthermore, it was already starting to draw to a close.

"No problem. I'm sure you would've done the same for me."

Giona blinked, looking at the display before him. Mismagius was struck two times, foldiing completely. Giona called it back into its ball with a red beam to protect it from further harm. He then clipped the pokeball to his belt.

"You're pretty good at this." He said, looking to her. Rotom then used Thunder Wave. A series of sparks descended, trying to stun and pin Darmanitan. Zebstrika was still confused, but this'd offer even more breathing room.
